Sun from Lost Season 4 episode Ji Yeon

So what do we know about tonight’s episode?

  1. Most of the actors/actresses involved with Lost have referred to this particular episode as “the most shocking” of the first seven – that alone sends chills up my spine
  2. Ji Yeon does not literally translate to anything (as far as I have been able to research, staying away from spoiler-filled info) – so it is probably a reference to the name of a person we will meet tonight

Spoiler Warning

ABC’s Official Show Description

“Juliet is forced to reveal some startling news to Jin when Sun threatens to move to Locke’s camp. Meanwhile, Sayid and Desmond begin to get an idea of the freighter crew’s mission when they meet the ship’s Captain”

So – what could the “shocking” development be? We know that this episode will be divided between the Island and the Freighter – so one might assume that the shocker will be the big reveal of Michael as Ben’s man on the boat (if you subscribe to that theory)… But, I think that is too obvious and something much grander will take place tonight, especially in light of the fact that we have to wait another four weeks for Episode 8.

Episode Preview

Here are an over-abundance of sneak peeks for this week’s episode:

Lost Missing Pieces #8: “Buried Secrets”

In this particular mobisode, we get a little more Michael & Sun interaction, further blurring the lines associated with the question of “Did they or didn’t they?”. In case you have not seen it:

Obviously the suspicion has been there for sometime, but this provides further reason to believe that there could be more to this relationship:

Sun: He’s not the man I fell in love with (referring to Jin).
[Michael hugs her.]
Michael: Maybe he just needs a little time. It’s been hard on all of us. It’s ok. It’ll be ok.
[They pull apart and begin to stare at each other. Michael’s hand is on Sun’s face and as they lean towards one another to kiss, Vincent comes up and barks, ruining the elicit opportunity.]

Again, it will be interesting to see how Michael is interjected back into the story line and how most of the cast will act towards him, now that he is a known murderer and someone that generally turned his back on them. Will Sun have anymore feelings for him, other than contempt?

Lost Missing Pieces #7: “Arzt and Crafts”

This definitely contained many more characters than the previous episodes we have seen thus far (Hurley, Jin, Sun, Michael, Dr. Arzt), but aside from comic relief, I’m not really sure what to take from this mobisode, though it was written by Lindelof so maybe there is something here. Arzt mockery of Jack is probably the high point:

Hurley - Hey, if Jack says it’s a good idea, maybe we should, like, trust him.
Arzt - Why? You tell me. Because he’s a doctor? Is that what qualifies him for leadership here? How do we know he’s not a nut case? I want to tell you something. [leaning down and speaking quietly to Hurley and Michael] The other day I’m in the jungle, and I’m taking a leak, and Jack runs through the jungle, crying for his Daddy.

Enjoy!

Sun on Lost

Tonight’s episode looks to focus on Sun and what effects the island may have on her pregnancy; based on what has already happened to Claire and with Juliet in the picture, things should get interesting in this week’s Lost episode “D.O.C.”

Also, we will find out more about the mysterious parachutist, what her connection to Desmond is, and what her role will be.

Caution, spoilers!

The April 20th podcast told us that we will find out who the real father of Sun’s baby is, and it was revealed that D.O.C. is the acronym for Date of Conception. The last few episodes have spent considerable time making us aware that pregnancy on the island is fatal, with the lone exception being Claire.

Here’s the official description from abc.com for the new Lost episode “D.O.C.”

“D.O.C” - After discovering that all of “The Others’” pregnant women died before giving birth on the island, an extremely reticent Sun allows Juliet to examine her — and uncovers the identity of the unborn child’s father. Meanwhile, Desmond allows an unlikely nemesis to help save the life of a new, mysterious island inhabitant. “Lost” Wednesday, April 25 at 10/9c on the ABC television network.

Yunjin Kim talks about her career

Yunjin Kim who plays Sun on Lost was recently interviewed by The Honolulu Advertiser. In the interview, Yunjin talks about how she became an actress and answers some questions about Lost.

We’ve already seen one major character from “Lost” written off this season, with the departure of Adewale Akinnouye-Agbaje. As a cast member, is it still shocking when someone gets written out?

We’d known about that for some time, so we were more mentally prepared. With Cynthia (Watros) and Michelle (Rodrigues), last season it was more of a shock. I was on the set when Cynthia found out. It was most dramatic when we lost our first character (Ian Somerhalder), and then Maggie (Grace). Not having Harold (Perrineau) and Malcolm (David Kelley) around has been hard too, since they were there from the beginning. It’s not a good feeling, but what are you going to do? It’s the nature of the show.

The prevailing assumption is that we’re not going to find out the identity of Sun’s baby-daddy until the end of the season. True?

The hard-core fans seem to know more than we do. I really don’t know, and I’m dying to find out. I’d love to find out for sure.

Besides discussing the events on the island, Yunjin talked about her career and how she became part of the Lost ensemble:

What was it like coming back to the U.S. after having achieved so much success in Korea?

It was hard. It meant I had to audition again. People didn’t know my work. But I wanted to pursue it. I wanted to come back and see if I could hack it.

ABC was very generous in bringing me over with a holding deal. I knew I wasn’t up for “Kate” because they had a specific image of her, but they wanted to see interesting actors, so they created “Sun” and “Jin.” It was the same for Jorge (Garcia). They wanted someone in their 50s (for the part of “Hurley”), but they just fell in love with Jorge.

That’s the best part of our executive producers — they want interesting actors and they have the sense to have ethnically different characters. Having two Asian actors on a show and to have them speak in another language for half the show — that’s never been done before.

I feel we’re making new, groundbreaking television. “Lost” is opening doors for a lot of different options. Now you have a show like “Heroes” with a Japanese actor who only speaks Japanese. It’s not only all Caucasian 20-year-olds.

It was interesting to find out more about Yunjin’s background and her feelings regarding the “death” of the other Lost characters.

I can’t see Yunjin playing Kate, but I’m really happy that the Lost writers created Sun for her instead. The relationship between Sun and Jin is a very dramatic storyline which Lost wouldn’t be the same without.

The rest of the interview can be read in The Honolulu Advertiser, but beware, there is a pretty big spoiler in one of Yunjin’s answers.
