Desmond - The Constant

Tonight’s Desmond-centric episode will mostly focus on Sayid and Desmond’s trip with Frank Lapidus back to the freighter – and accordingly we will see the introduction of a number of new characters. Hopefully we get much more insight into how cohesive a group the freighties are (or not) and additional information on who might be Ben’s man on the boat. I would expect to see a strange sequence related to Desmond’s flash – and we’ll probably have a difficult time determining if we are seeing past or future – should be a great episode.

Spoiler Warning

ABC’s Official Show Description

Sayid and Desmond run into turbulence on their way to the freighter, causing Desmond to suffer unusual side effects.

Seven Bold Statements - The Naveen Andrews/Esquire Interview is a pretty interesting read, for those of you that care about the political views of the “Lost” actor. Among the lighter of the seven notable quotes:

A slice of hot, buttered toast is the perfect meal. It’s not too much and not too little, and it gives you just the right buzz.

I think all of the sun and Island time Naveen is absorbing in Oahu is having some strange effect…

Josh Holloway - ITN Interview - Josh Holloway took some time off from his Coolwater ad photo shoot to answer a few questions for ITN.

It should bring back memories for the 37-year-old as before becoming an actor he was a top model: “I wanted to really engage my whole being in something. Where as modelling is engaging in many ways - I travelled the world and all that - I got to a point where I felt I had a lot more to give.”

Matthew Fox = L’Oreal Pitchman - Matthew Fox is the new spokesperson for the Men Expert line throughout the world - except in the United States and Canada.

“I’m thrilled to be working with L’Oréal Paris. I really appreciate the innovative and high-performance nature of the brand, as well as its values of open mindedness and diversity. L’Oréal Paris offers women - and now men - throughout the world care products at the leading edge of technology,” says Matthew Fox.

I find it interesting that many US celebrities, even with the proliferation of information and video across the Internet, still believe that having commercials appear within their own country somehow implies they have sold out. I’m not saying that is what happened in this case, but it does seem quite peculiar.

Naveen Andrews in Grindhouse

Naveen Andrews, who plays Sayid on Lost is currently starring in Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s new double-feature “Grindhouse”. In an interview with wbaltv.com, Naveen talks about the film and reveals that director Quentin Tarantino is a big Lost fan:

“I know that Robert was aware of ‘Lost,’ but Quentin was and is a big fan of the show. He said to me at the read-through of the script that my character and Josh Holloway’s character, Sawyer, were his favorites on the show. That was incredibly flattering. It kind of surprised me. You don’t think you’re a part of popular culture when you’re an individual that’s involved with it.”

Naveen also says that initially he didn’t get the grindhouse phenomenon:

“Growing up in England, fortunately — or unfortunately — we didn’t have the grindhouse phenomenon. The nearest thing to it would have been the Hammer House of Horror films,” Andrews recalled. “I’m 38, so I grew up seeing them on TV when I was about 9 or 10 years old. It would consist of cheap and cheerful, repressed English movies where Peter Cushing would run around, trying to kill a giant moth.”

I’m a big Rodriguez and Tarantino fan and the fact that Naveen is in Grindhouse just makes things better!

Naveen Andrews as Lost's Sayid

Jewreview.net has a nice little interview with Naveen Andrews who plays Sayid on Lost.

J.J. is promising a bigger ending this year than last year. Have you seen anything?

Naveen Andrews: It’s like magicians, isn’t it? ‘For my next trick…’ I hope so, bigger and better; that would be nice.

Are you happier now with the balance of the season?

Naveen Andrews: It’s nice to be featured, yeah.

Was it frustrating then before?

Naveen Andrews: Well, for the original cast, I think that we have to be relatively stoic about the experience; there will always be that first season that we did. That will always be there and I’m very proud of it and I have it out there with the work that I’m the most proud of and they can never take that away. They’re the writers and we’re not; I couldn’t presume to write this show. And it’s tough to be a writer and whatever direction they chose to take the show in they will.

Don’t forget that Naveen is starring in Robert Rodriguez’s and Quentin Tarantino’s new movie project “Grindhouse” which opens April 6 in the states.

Sayid in the Lost episode Enter 77

Before we get to the fun stuff, I want to say that I’m sorry for the lack of updates during the last few days. A pretty bad fever has forced me to stay in bed. I’m starting to feel a bit better, but don’t be surprised if you don’t see me around for a few more days. With that said I’m not going to let a fever, or anything else for that matter, stop me from publishing the “episode post”!

Enter 77

Last week’s Lost episode “Tricia Tanaka is Dead” was an entertaining break from the recent darker episodes. This week’s Sayid centric Lost promises more action and adventure as Locke, Kate and Sayid continue on their mission to save Jack from The Others.

This is the official description of the Lost episode “Enter 77″

Spoiler

Locke, Sayid and Kate investigate a strange structure and its mysterious inhabitant. Meanwhile, Sawyer competes in a ping-pong competition to get back his belongings, on “Lost,” WEDNESDAY, MARCH 7 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

Please feel free to comment and discuss the episode, but try to keep it intelligent. No “Lost sucks, I’m never watching it again!” comments.

Also, I know you all feel bad for me, so there is no need break up the discussion with encouraging comments about my health. Let’s keep the discussion about the events in the episode!

Naveen Andrews in Grind House

According to Variety, Naveen Andrews who portrays the former republican guard Sayid Jarrah on Lost, has joined the ensemble cast of Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s new movie - Grind House.

Longtime friends Rodriguez and Tarantino will each write and direct a 60-minute horror story with made up trailers and ads in between. Naveen is set to play a “badass military scientist” in Robert Rodriguez’s part of the movie called “Planet Terror”.

I’m a big fan of specially Robert Rodriguez and have been looking forward to Grind House for some time, so it’s fun to see that Naveen will be part of it since he is a really great actor.

It should also be noted that “Grind House” will most probably be an overblown homage to oldschool horror movies, in the style of From Dusk Till Dawn or Kill Bill.

Thoughts on The Long Con

Spoilers if you haven’t seen “The Long Con”

First of all, wow, talk about intense LOST episode. I really enjoyed the Sawyer flashbacks and the dramatic twists on the island where even better.

I honestly didn’t see the twist coming, even if it made perfect sense and tied in really well with the flashbacks. Since I am one of the few who still believes Charlie is a good person, I was a bit surprised to see him doing something which hurt an innocent person such as Sun. Wanting to get revenge on Locke on the other hand, I can definitively understand.

Notice that when Charlie appears at the end, he has the hood on, hiding in the darkness of his sins. It feels like the hood is a sign of him being “evil Charlie” so to speak. I believe and hope that Charlie’s acquaintance with the darkness is just temporary though. When he is talking to Sawyer at the end, it really feels like Sawyer manipulated him by playing on Charlie’s newfound hatred against John Locke.

Sawyer also takes an interesting turn by outplaying everyone. But for what purpose? Like Kate said, I don’t think this has much to do with the guns or with Sawyer’s stash for that matter.

Enough with Sawyer and Charlie, something else very interesting happened in this episode. Besides joking about songs, Hurley gave Sayid a shortwave radio. At the very end of the episode Sayid manages to pick up a quite clear signal. Where (or when..) the music comes from we do not know, but I’m pretty sure we will see more of the shortwave radio in the next episode.

I did some research on shortwave radio and it turns out there is something known as “numbers stations”. These stations of unknown origin often broadcast series of numbers, much like Rousseau’s transmission. Supposedly, the transmissions are encrypted messages sent between governments and their spies all over the world…

Besides the obvious drama, there where some interesting details in this LOST episode:

How did Ana-Lucia know about Scott? The Others killed him long before the tail section people showed up. Maybe the writers are having fun, maybe Ana-Lucia knows more than she should…

I hope everyone noticed the waitress in the diner being Kate’s mother Diane.

Two new “books” appeared in this LOST episode - the real “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” and the made up manuscript “Bad Twin”. More on these in a later post.

If you want to discuss the LOST episode “The Long Con” please feel free to do so in the comments.
