“Confirmed Dead” Recap

It’s pretty crazy to think there was a contention of people out there who thought that this particular episode was a let down after the season premiere - I could not disagree more. This episode rocked, and I cannot remember a better infusion of new characters into any show I have ever watched. I thought the acting was incredible, especially by Jeremy Davies as the character “Daniel Faraday” (is he really that awkward/goofy or is that just manipulation?) and Ken Leung as “Miles” (ghost whispering kicks ass, as long as it does not involve Jennifer Love-Hewitt). There is a ton to digest from this episode, but here are a few things I found interesting:

*A Little Lost Fandom Love: Lindelof/Cuse winked at us twice during this episode and most of you caught it - Locke asking “What is the Smoke Monster ?!?” when Ben was in secret-revealing mode and Locke again referring to Walt as “different, taller” - then getting sarcastically ridiculed by Sawyer

*Find815.com Tie-In: The beginning of the episode was a total overlay of what happened at the conclusion of Find815, with the discovery of the plane and the corresponding news coverage

*The New Characters: It is a bit premature to pinpoint exactly what is happening, but I picked up on two streams of thought coming from the excellent commentary that accompanied the post from yesterday:

A) Ben really does hate these people, and Michael could be his “man on their boat” - Makes sense because we have seen Walt but not Michael and it would be just like Ben to force Michael to continue carrying out his evil deeds to ultimately release he and Walt from the Island

B) We are in for a major twist and these people are on the Island to help Ben regain control (or at least Charlotte is) - Another distinct possibility given the all too convenient placement of Charlotte’s bullet proof vest and Ben’s thorough knowledge of who she was. And how about the DHARMA Polar Bear fossil? More theories on that?

Michael Abaddon is EVIL: So, now we know that Naomi was hired by Abaddon as the mercenary to lead all the misfits we met this week - but this episode takes me back to the conversation between The Dark Destroyer and Hurley from last week, when he asked “Are they still alive?” I initially thought he was referring to other survivors of Flight 815, but perhaps he was asking about his crew. I think it is becoming increasingly likely that the Oceanic 6 get off the Island without these new characters, given all the info we are getting fed about the helicopter and its inability to carry much weight.

That’s it for now - the only way this episode could have been any better is if Miles would have parachuted directly into Jacob’s cabin!

This Week In Lost - June 24th, 2007

Seven Bold Statements - The Naveen Andrews/Esquire Interview is a pretty interesting read, for those of you that care about the political views of the “Lost” actor. Among the lighter of the seven notable quotes:

A slice of hot, buttered toast is the perfect meal. It’s not too much and not too little, and it gives you just the right buzz.

I think all of the sun and Island time Naveen is absorbing in Oahu is having some strange effect…

Josh Holloway - ITN Interview - Josh Holloway took some time off from his Coolwater ad photo shoot to answer a few questions for ITN.

It should bring back memories for the 37-year-old as before becoming an actor he was a top model: “I wanted to really engage my whole being in something. Where as modelling is engaging in many ways - I travelled the world and all that - I got to a point where I felt I had a lot more to give.”

Matthew Fox = L’Oreal Pitchman - Matthew Fox is the new spokesperson for the Men Expert line throughout the world - except in the United States and Canada.

“I’m thrilled to be working with L’Oréal Paris. I really appreciate the innovative and high-performance nature of the brand, as well as its values of open mindedness and diversity. L’Oréal Paris offers women - and now men - throughout the world care products at the leading edge of technology,” says Matthew Fox.

I find it interesting that many US celebrities, even with the proliferation of information and video across the Internet, still believe that having commercials appear within their own country somehow implies they have sold out. I’m not saying that is what happened in this case, but it does seem quite peculiar.

New York Magazine Interview w/ Michael Emerson

New York Magazine posted an interesting, albeit brief, interview on their Vulture Entertainment Blog with Michael Emerson today related to the finale and his thoughts about next season. This is funny on the heels of the self-imposed radio silence from Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. Someone obviously forgot to tell Benry.

Now that the finale has aired, do you have any freaking clue what’s going to happen when you start shooting again?

No, because I didn’t know what the end of the episode was until I watched it. That was a secret scene with Jack and Kate — only Matthew [Fox] and Evangeline [Lilly] were given that text and it was shot in secret.

He also comments about Naomi and his feelings about his character on the show.

John Locke from Lost

We’ve finally reached the best day of the week. Based on the Official Podcast, tonight’s no-flashback episode should answer a number of questions, and I am sure in typical Lost fashion, create quite a few as well. I am excited for all of these reasons:

Warning, Spoilers!

  • We will find out what Locke has been up to since we last saw him, and supposedly how his father ended up on the Island as well
  • Finally, the name of the not-so-mysterious parachutist will be officially revealed (AKA Season 3’s Worst Kept Secret): Naomi Doret for the two people that are still unaware, and yes, the name is of some “Dickensonian” relevance. More importantly, we will also get a better explanation of her understanding of what happened to Oceanic Flight 815
  • The Others - Why did they tuck tail and run with heavy artillery? Hopefully we’ll get that answer as well.

Put your thinking caps on folks, D&C are adamant that the “Purgatory” theories are not an option.

Here’s the official description from abc.com for the new Lost episode “The Brig”:

Locke tries to persuade Sawyer to help rid them of a great nemesis, and the survivors learn some shocking information about Oceanic Flight 815 on the next episode of ABC’ Lost. Wednesday, May 2 at 10/9c

Preview for The Brig

As always, read through the comments before posting and have fun. Be mindful of others and do not post any pre-show spoilers, they will be removed.

As we reported a while ago, Josh Holloway, best known as Lost’s Sawyer is playing the character “Ajay” in the new PC game Command & Conquer 3:Tiberium Wars

Until now though, I hadn’t seen Josh portraying the evil intelligence officer so it was fun to stumble upon this little video in which Mr.Holloway can be seen in character as “Ajay”. Pretty cool.
