Matthew Fox

Is Lost’s captain Jack going to star in the next project from Matrix creators Larry and Andy Wachowski? It is being reported that Matthew Fox is in final negotiations to play the role of the mysterious villain “Racer X” in “Speed Racer”.

The movie, which is a live action adaptation of an animated series from the 60s will be shot in Berlin this summer.

As a pretty big fan of both The Matrix and V for Vendetta, I’m really looking forward to see the Wachowski vision of “Speed Racer”. I don’t know much about the character Matthew would be playing, but it will be cool to see him portraying a villain.

Update: Apparently Racer X isn’t a villain, but either way I think it can be an interesting character to see Matthew portray.

Naveen Andrews in Grindhouse

Naveen Andrews, who plays Sayid on Lost is currently starring in Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s new double-feature “Grindhouse”. In an interview with wbaltv.com, Naveen talks about the film and reveals that director Quentin Tarantino is a big Lost fan:

“I know that Robert was aware of ‘Lost,’ but Quentin was and is a big fan of the show. He said to me at the read-through of the script that my character and Josh Holloway’s character, Sawyer, were his favorites on the show. That was incredibly flattering. It kind of surprised me. You don’t think you’re a part of popular culture when you’re an individual that’s involved with it.”

Naveen also says that initially he didn’t get the grindhouse phenomenon:

“Growing up in England, fortunately — or unfortunately — we didn’t have the grindhouse phenomenon. The nearest thing to it would have been the Hammer House of Horror films,” Andrews recalled. “I’m 38, so I grew up seeing them on TV when I was about 9 or 10 years old. It would consist of cheap and cheerful, repressed English movies where Peter Cushing would run around, trying to kill a giant moth.”

I’m a big Rodriguez and Tarantino fan and the fact that Naveen is in Grindhouse just makes things better!

Lost’s Paulo is Xerxes in 300

Rodrigo Santoro as Xerxes

On Lost, Rodrigo Santoro got off to a bad start due to a bad introduction of his character “Paulo”, but on the big screen things are going much better for the Brazilian actor. He can currently be seen portraying Persian ruler Xerxes in the violent epic “300″, based on Frank Miller’s graphic novel with the same name.

The film which is directed by Zach Snyder, has gained much popularity on the Internet and earned over $70 million during its first weekend, breaking a record and becoming the highest earning film opening in March ever.

Rodrigo had this to say about playing Xerxes:

Xerxes has convinced himself he is a God so he puts himself on a pedestal. Like, you know, above the sky. I did a good research of Persian history and of Herodotus. There was a lot of interesting information there that I used to build Xerxes. The soul, the essence of the character is just right there. You know, he existed once. It’s actually a huge responsibility to play this guy! (Laughs)

The costumes and the sets are just incredible. I’m not gonna lie to you; when I first saw the costume I almost said ‘Wow, I’ve never seen so much gold!’. It helped me a lot because it makes you feel, you know, all over it was full of gold, and I had the piercings, and everything just… I miss it now.

Harold Perrineau in 28 Weeks Later

The first pictures of Harold Perrineau, Lost’s Michael, as Flynn, an upbeat Special Forces pilot in the movie 28 Weeks Later have emerged.

The movie which is the follow up to the 2002 zombie flick “28 Days Later” is directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and this is the synopsis:

Six months after the rage virus has annihilated the British Isles, the US Army declares that the war against infection has been won, and that the reconstruction of the country can begin. Under the strict supervision of the U.S. Military, the first wave of refugees is allowed back into the city. Among them are Don (Robert Carlyle), his new girlfriend Scarlett (Rose Byrne), and Don’s two children. Don lost his wife during the original infection, while Scarlett lost her entire family. All seems under control until a new carrier of the virus makes his way within the quarantined area. As the only known live specimen, he becomes a vital tool to the scientists who hope to learn from their discovery. Call it carelessness or call it bad luck, but the virus eventually spreads once again and now may be even more difficult to contain than the first time around. Jeremy Renner plays Sgt. Doyle who is part of the American Special Forces team working on restoring order in London. Harold Perrineau will co-star as Flynn, an upbeat Special Forces pilot who leads the families returning to London to their safety, while documenting the ordeal with his camera.

Naveen Andrews in Grindhouse

Naveen Andrews, best known from his role as Sayid on Lost is starring in the upcoming Robert Rodriguez & Quentin Tarantino double-feature “Grindhouse“. The director duo say that the movie is a tribute to the kind of films they grew up watching.

Naveen is playing a yet to be named character in the segment “Planet Terror” written and directed by Sin City director Robert Rodriguez. Not much is known about the story of Rodriguez’s part of the movie, but Naveen’s character is some form of zombie slayer. Sounds fun.

A trailer for the film has been seen floating around on the Internet. But it’s probably not the final trailer and you didn’t hear it from me.

I’m a fan of both Rodriguez and Tarantino’s movies, and while Grindhouse may look a bit extreme, it will certainly be very interesting to see the final result!

Fox talks Marshall

Matthew Fox, best known as Lost’s Dr.Jack Shephard is starring in his first big movie “We Are Marshall” which opens on December 22.

In an interview with comingsoon.net, Matt talks about the movie and reveals why he decided to star in “We are Marshall” during his last Lost hiatus:

ComingSoon.net: Obviously you must pretty busy with “Lost” and you probably don’t have to take other work, so why did you decide to do this movie during your break?

Matthew Fox: Well, it was the script. “Lost” does take up a huge chunk of my year, and I am reticent to fill my hiatus with other work unless it’s something that I’m incredibly passionate about and almost like I have to do it. And that’s the way I felt about the story. I felt very, very moved and it affected me. The way I choose things is always sort of a nebulous, sort of vague process, and ultimately just comes down to sort of the sense inside yourself that it’s really important for you to do this part and be a part of this project.

I know this isn’t directly Lost-related, but since we all love Matt, I thought some of you might be interested the interview.

Naveen Andrews in Grind House

According to Variety, Naveen Andrews who portrays the former republican guard Sayid Jarrah on Lost, has joined the ensemble cast of Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s new movie - Grind House.

Longtime friends Rodriguez and Tarantino will each write and direct a 60-minute horror story with made up trailers and ads in between. Naveen is set to play a “badass military scientist” in Robert Rodriguez’s part of the movie called “Planet Terror”.

I’m a big fan of specially Robert Rodriguez and have been looking forward to Grind House for some time, so it’s fun to see that Naveen will be part of it since he is a really great actor.

It should also be noted that “Grind House” will most probably be an overblown homage to oldschool horror movies, in the style of From Dusk Till Dawn or Kill Bill.

Reader Tip Roundup

I’ve been getting a lot of mails from our readers the last two weeks but sadly I haven’t had much time to write about all the interesting things they had to say, so here goes:

Jared writes:

I just watched the jeep video. At the end there is a beep and then a quick flash of the Dharma logo with a message. I can’t get a screen cap to enhance it, but there are 4 words at the top, first word looks like echo. Maybe someone can figure it out?

I tried enhancing the images but couldn’t make out what it says either. Anyone with better luck?

Jeff found a site with the scripts for various Lost episodes. Really cool if you are interested in screenwriting like I am.

I haven’t had time to read all the scripts, but I noticed that there are some differences to the pilot script and how the Lost pilot episode ended up looking shot and edited, so it might be possible to find some interesting information in the screenplays.

Both Sebastien and Heather discovered that after doing some of the Lost experience stuff on thehansofoundation.org, if you look at the Joop webcam, he will morph into a dark image that resembles a human. I’ve seen this being discussed in the comments too, but has anyone managed to capture a good picture of the “human” and what significance if any do you believe this has?

Rachel Cunliffe of cre8d-design.com spotted some fun/interesting things related to Lost and Alias in Mission:Impossible 3.

Sophie found the Buddhist Dhamma concept to have some parallels to Lost. Quite interesting reading.

Joe pointed out that Mittelwerk (as in Dr.Thomas Mittelwerk of The Hanso Foundation) was the name of a secret underground Nazi base during the second World War that produced the V1 and V2 rockets, using slave labor. Also very interesting reading.

We get new tips every day, but the tips above should keep us all entertained for some hours so more reader tips will be discussed in a future post. If you have interesting information related to Lost (no spoilers) that you want to share with us, send us a mail!

JJ’s Impossible Mission

Just days before the opening of the new Mission:Impossible movie directed by Lost co-creator JJ Abrams, moviehole.net has published an interview with the man himself.

The first movie was so much about plot and suspense, the second movie is so much about action, and this movie, I think, takes a more realistic approach than a stylistic approach. Obviously it’s very awkward talking about what you do from the outside in, but I hope what works, is that whilst this is a movie that’s full of action – more than the first two combined, when you count the sequences – it’s not an action movie. It’s a love story, there’s a lot of comedy and heartfelt stuff. It happens to have action in it, but it’s not like, let’s go make an action movie.

“Die Hard” is a good example of a movie that was a great movie that had action in it, but I don’t think of it is an action movie. The reason that film was so effective, and the reason you tune into it when it’s on, is because of the characters. “Die Hard 2”, you wouldn’t normally rent again or watch again because it was all about action – the action was fine, but it wasn’t a story, it was a series of action sequences that were designed to illicit a response as opposed to what does the story demand happen.
