Update:
Wow, just wow. “Two for the Road” was probably one of the best and most shocking Lost episodes of this season. If the final 3 episodes are as intense as this one then, well… most of the cast might get killed.
Rumors about Ana-Lucia’s death have been circulating on the net for quite some time, but I don’t think anyone was expecting Michael to shoot her. The real question though is what brought Michael to shoot first Ana-Lucia, then Libby and finally himself (in the arm).
Judging from the expression on Michael’s face when he shot Ana and Libby, it was not something he was very happy about having to do. My guess is that The Others told Michael to act as their mole and free Henry, or they would kill Walt. I don’t believe that he has been brainwashed and I don’t believe that the others are using some form of mind-control on him, he simply wants to get his son back alive.
I agree with the commenters who believe that Michael shot himself in the arm to be able to tell Jack and the other losties that “Henry” got hold of the gun, shot Michael, Ana and Libby and escaped. I felt that this was pretty clear at the end of the scene.
I wonder if he shot Ana-Lucia because he was specifically told to kill her, or if he shot her because he needed to free Henry and at the same time keep the losties believing in his story and that he is on their side. If he just needed to free Henry, he could have told Ana to let Henry out and then escaped with him since he was in control of the only gun in the hatch. The fact that Michael killed her seems to point to the fact that he couldn’t afford to be revealed as a mole.
Aside from the shocking ending, there where several other things of interest in this episode.
“Henry” said some interesting things, but more on that will be posted in it’s own post since this entry would get to long otherwise.
Jack’s father, Christian Shephard reappeared in Ana-Lucia’s flashback and so did Sawyer. We found out that Christian Shephard apparently has a daughter with a woman living in Sydney, so Jack has a half-sister. Could this unknown sister be Claire, or maybe the young girl who was among the tail section survivors?
Those of you who have found it strange that so few of the lost castaways have had sex on the island also got what you where asking for. Ana-Lucia and Sawyer ended up doing it in the jungle, but it was probably just Ana-Lucia’s way of getting Sawyer’s gun. No pun intended.
I’m sure there are other things that need to be discussed but most things are pretty well covered by our visitors in the comments of this post so keep on reading, and stay tuned - a follow up post discussing Henry’s revelations in the Lost episode “Two for the Road” will be posted within the hour.
