Juliet - Lost Episode - The Other Woman - Season 4

Juliet becomes the center of attention in tonight’s episode – and just in time, as her role has been minimal thus far through the first 5 episodes – we’ll see if things spice back up between her and Jack – and if we get any more information related to what she knows about the Island. The episode description would suggest that she is coerced into doing something unwillingly…

Spoiler Warning

ABC’s Official Show Description

“Juliet receives an unwelcome visit from someone from her past and is given orders to track down Charlotte and Faraday in order to stop them from completing their mission — by any means necessary. Meanwhile, Ben offers Locke an enticing deal.”

Based on the information that has been published – this episode should provide some extremely compelling back story about the Island and Juliet’s time spent there prior to the crash of Flight 815.

Excitement surrounding Tonight’s Lost Season 4 Premiere

There’s no shortage of media coverage surrounding tonight’s premiere. You would have to being living under the Black Rock to not know that Lost Season 4 debuts tonight. To tide us over for the rest of the day, since we are obviously too excited to focus on anything else, here’s a list of links to keep us busy while we wait. We thank all of our fellow Lost fans who sent some of these in.

Potential Spoiler Warning

  • USA TODAY gives tonight’s episode 4 out of 4 stars in their review: ‘Lost’ rescues a TV season that’s adrift.

Returning with a heart-stopping, perfectly pitched episode that fulfills all the promise of last season’s stunner of a finale, Lost is an oasis in a strike-parched TV desert.

  • AOL Television did a “‘Lost’ A to Z Guide” - 26 reasons why season 4 will be pretty interesting. Thanks Andie
  • ToeKnee found a few preview articles that are worth repeating here: ‘Lost’ finds new ways to intrigue from the Boston Globe and one from nj.com here: Sepinwall on TV: ‘Lost’ season four review
  • Here’s a video interview with Elizabeth Mitchell (Juliet) on redlasso.com from this morning on the CW 11 New York Morning Show
  • This interview with Michael Emerson (Ben) is a good one. He describes the character of Ben here:

He’s certainly an antagonist. He certainly makes things happen. He provokes behavior in the part of others and his methods are mysterious and frightening. We fear Ben because we fear the unknown. If his agenda were more clear, we might feel differently about him. I think a day will come, and maybe I flatter myself here, when we see more clearly what his sight is, who his enemies are, and we may decide he’s a more heroic character than we thought previously

  • Finally, you can listen to a podcast interview Matthew Fox from Australian radio station Triple M. It’s broken into 3 parts. Thanks Jason

Enjoy, see you all in the comments tonight!

Lost Missing Pieces #6: “Room 23″

23 hours, 42 minutes ago by Will

In the sixth installment, we get a glimpse of a conversation between Juliet and Ben, regarding Walt, who is obviously being held in Room 23. The dialogue here is fascinating, because you can definitely get a sense that the majority of the Others are frightened by Walt’s unique abilities, as Ben gives reference to Jacob as well:

JULIET: This is your responsibility. You were the one who wanted him here.

BEN: Jacob wanted him here. He’s important. He’s special.

JULIET: He’s dangerous.

BEN: He’s just a kid Juliet. He’s a child.

JULIET: He’s just a child? Come see.

We then get to see a pile of dead birds, which Walt presumably caused via his abilities. The sets up for Season 4 nicely, as we got a glimpse of Walt during the finale, but obviously will see much more of him during the story arch this season. I think it will be interesting to see where he aligns himself within the framework of the show (the obvious answer is with Locke, but we’ll see). If you have yet to see this mobisode, you can find it here.

Lost Missing Pieces #5: “Operation Sleeper”

Operation Sleeper features Jack & Juliet, and more specifically the conversation where Juliet informs Jack that she is still working with/for Ben. In terms of an episodic timeline, this would have occurred between D.O.C and The Brig, and it is interesting to see how Juliet breaks the news to Jack. We get to see Juliet question whether or not Locke actually blew up the submarine and basically reinforce the amount of time she has been on the Island:

Jack - So you’re only here because he sent you here?
Juliet - Yeah.
Jack - Why are you telling me this now?
Juliet - Last night with Sun, we saw the baby growing inside her. If she’s still on this island in about a month, both of them will be dead. I’ve been living Benjamin Linus’s dream for three years. Three years. It’s time to wake up.

Interesting that this is now the 3rd Missing Pieces (out of 5) to feature Jack in some form or fashion. I am not sure that really has any implication on what we will see in Season 4, but as fan of his character, I hope so. However, with roughly 7 of these left, I do hope we will get to see more on Locke, Sawyer, Kate, et al.

As many of you know, Season 4 Trailers are now starting to show up in in cinemas, and I confirmed that with some friends who saw one prior to a showing of Beowulf this past weekend (though they said the digital 3D trailers were all a bit distorted). I have not been able to find anything online yet that looks 100% legit, but here is something I found which looks comparable to what they saw:

Lost Missing Pieces #4: “The Deal”

Another good mobisode, in my opinion. If you have not yet seen “The Deal”, you can view it here.

The premise of “The Deal” centers around a discussion between Michael and Juliet, and the title is an obvious reference to what Michael had to do to save Walt. The dynamic of their conversation is interesting, specifically after Juliet reveals some information about the deal she had to cut with Ben to save her sister’s life. We, again, see Michael’s somewhat self-centered perception of reality come out, in the following dialogue:

Juliet – I guess you are. I made a deal with him too.
Michael – Then why are you still here?
Juliet – Because he saved my sister’s life.
Michael – And where is she?
Juliet – Miami.
Michael – But you had to stay? What’s the point saving her life if you can’t be with her?
Juliet – Wouldn’t you do anything to save Walt?

Michael then just blankly stares at Juliet… I find this interesting because we know Michael’s past, specifically his initial reluctance in which he accepted Walt into his life. This definitely has me even more intrigued with how Michael will be injected back into the storyline during Season 4.

Also, Kristin Dos Santos of E!Online is reporting that advertisements for Season 4 of Lost will be coming to a theater near you, possibly. This is not that big a deal in and of itself, but I do find this particular excerpt from her post exciting related to Season 4:

And by the way, this also means ABC thinks the new season of Lost is so good, it warrants such play. I’ve heard from Alphabet-net insiders that the upcoming eight episodes filmed so far are “crazy good” and will “even satisfy the haters.”

Not that any of us expected less, but this obviously bodes well for what we will get starting in February.

This Week in Lost - 06/09/2007

Not much happening this week in the world of Lost, but I will do my best to recap a few interesting news items:

*The Official Speed Racer website launched this week, complete with a press blitz that featured Matthew Fox. He made a few comments, but the one I found most interesting was that he grew up without television, how is that for irony?

*Emmy Submissions for Lost: Buddy TV is reporting that the following Emmy submissions were made on behalf of Lost -

Outstanding Drama Series
Lost “Through The Looking Glass”

Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series
Evangeline Lilly For “I Do”

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series
Matthew Fox For “A Tale Of Two Cities”

Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series
Naveen Andrews For “Enter 77″
Daniel Dae Kim For “The Glass Ballerina”
Michael Emerson For “Every Man For Himself”
Henry Ian Cusick For “Flashes Before Your Eyes”
Josh Holloway For “Every Man For Himself”
Jorge Garcia For “Tricia Tanaka Is Dead”
Dominic Monaghan For “Flashes Before Your Eyes”
Terry O’quinn For “The Man From Tallahassee”

Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series
Emilie De Ravin For “Par Avion”
Yunjin Kim For “The Glass Ballerina”
Elizabeth Mitchell For “One Of Us”

Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series
Kevin Tighe For “The Brig”

Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series
Stephen Williams for “Greatest Hits”

Though Lost was generally snubbed last year, I think it can only be good for the series to win some of these awards, though that may not be of much import to the overall fan-base. Of those listed above, I would especially like to see Dominic Monaghan nominated for Supporting Actor and Elizabeth Mitchell for Supporting Actress (official nominations will be announced on July 19th). Who do you think is deserving of an Emmy based on the above?

*Elizabeth Mitchell Interview: Variety posted a pretty good interview with Elizabeth Mitchell.

Mitchell may not know if a line or two of dialogue — or even an entire multiepisode setup — is just a ruse because the following scripts haven’t arrived yet. Yet, she’s developed a sixth sense in figuring out Juliet’s true intentions.

“I know when she’s lying, and she’s an excellent liar,” says Mitchell, laughing. “Juliet is so controlled and only allows people to see her in the way she wants to be seen. If she shows too much, she loses all her powers.”

Lost Jack

Tonight’s Lost episode is called Greatest Hits, which is apropos given that in the preview this week we can clearly see that Jack has something explosive in store for the Others. However, I cannot help but think that Ben may have orchestrated this whole occurrence and is basically still pulling all the strings. Say what you want about Ben, but he is definitely not an idiot and clearly understands that he can no longer trust Juliet. As we head into the season finale it will be interesting to see how this particular show sets us up for the final two hours and who will still be alive after the dust settles.

This is the official description of “Greatest Hits”:

Warning, Spoilers!

“Greatest Hits” - Jack devises a plan to do away with “The Others” once and for all, Sayid uncovers a flaw in “The Others’” system that could lead to everyone’s rescue, and Charlie’s dangerous task may make Desmond’s premonition come true. Wednesday, May 16 at 10/9c on ABC

Episode Preview:

You can also see a sneak peak of Greatest Hits.

Two things before we get into the post for tonight’s episode:

  • If you Google “Lost TV Show” you get about 77,000,000 results, so if you want to discuss spoilers, get the script for the season finale, or complain about the non-spoiler atmosphere this site attempts to offer, you have at least 76,999,999 more options
  • Most of the significant plot points for what is left of this season have been exposed on multiple websites; let’s try to keep that stuff off this site

Enough said about that. See you all in the comments after the show. Read them all before you add your own, stay on topic and have fun.

Ben from Lost

Another Lost wednesday is here and we’re all ready for tonight’s Lost episode “The Man Behind The Curtain.” A ton happening in tonight’s episode:

Spoiler Warning

  • Will we really find out anything tangible about Jacob?
  • What exactly will Ben expose to Locke about the Island?
  • How will Jack explain Juliet’s recording to the Losties? Can he restore their faith in him?

Given this is a Ben-centric episode; we should obviously get some answers about his true origins, what his role was in the DHARMA Initiative, and more importantly where the relationship stands between the Others and DHARMA. I believe there is a legitimate rift between Alpert and Ben and that Locke is the mechanism they will both attempt to use to gain the upper-hand in whatever internal struggle that is happening.

Official Description:

The Man Behind the Curtain, Wednesday, May 9 at 10/9c on ABC. Ben begrudgingly begins to introduce Locke to the secrets of the island, beginning with the mysterious Jacob.

Preview

You can also see a sneak peak of The Man Behind The Curtain.

As always, read through all of the comments before posting. Be mindful of others and do not post any pre-show spoilers, they will be removed. Have fun.

Is Juliet evil?

Juliet and Ben on Lost

I don’t think anyone will disagree with me if I say that last night’s Lost episode “One of Us” kicked some serious ass. We found out a lot more about The Others, Sayid once again proved to be the smartest person on the island, and it was revealed that Juliet is still working for Ben.

What I don’t understand though is that some of you have left comments saying that Juliet is a really evil person.

In the Lost episode we saw several times how Juliet only wanted to do good but time after time was convinced by Ben to keep doing what he needed her to do.

Like Jack said, the thing in the world Juliet wants the most is to leave the island. To be fair, Jack obviously doesn’t know Juliet as well as he thinks he does, but in this case I believe he was right.

Juliet really wants to leave the island and she believes that the only person who can take her home is Ben, or possibly Jacob, so she probably figures that if she wants to go home she has no choice but to continue playing along with Ben’s plans.

This feeling of focused dedication is mirrored in Locke who would do anything to stay on the island, and was in a way reflected in Michael’s willingness to do anything to save Walt.

What I’m wondering is what will happen if Juliet finds out that Ben isn’t actually able to let her go home…

Elizabeth Mitchel as Juliet on Lost

The stakes are getting higher as Jack decides to bring the abandoned Juliet back to the beach camp in tonight’s Juliet centric Lost episode “One of Us”.

The last time we got a Juliet flashback was in “Not in Portland” where we learned how Juliet, a fertility expert who managed to miraculously cure her infertile sister, was recruited to the island by Richard Alpert and Ethan.

Tonight’s new Lost episode promises more answers about Juliet’s past and might reveal more about The Others and the mysterious island.

This is the official description of Lost “One of Us”:

Warning, spoilers!

Jack’s joyous reunion with his fellow survivors is cut short when they realize that accompanying him is one of “The Others,” and Claire is stricken by a mysterious, life-threatening illness, on “Lost,” WEDNESDAY, APRIL 11 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

Since the title is similar to the episode “One of Them” in which we first met Ben, and Ben turned out to actually be “one of Them”, maybe Juliet really is “one of us”?
