A new edition of the famous official Lost podcast has been unleashed:

Executive Producer Carlton Cuse and fellow writers Adam Kitsis and Eddie Horowitz expose “Exposé” and look forward to “Left Behind” (4/4/07). Elizabeth Mitchell discusses the challenges of playing Juliet.

Listen to the Lost podcast

  • Elizabeth Mitchell was told that Juliet hadn’t been on the island her entire life and that she is trapped there when she got the part.
  • Elizabeth thinks that Juliet mostly tells the truth.
  • Carlton Cuse got Kitsis and Horowitz to join the Lost writing team.
  • The idea of an actress on the island (Nikki), first came up at the end of season one.
  • The fans asked to see the background survivors, but when we got to see them in the form of Nikki and Paulo we wanted to see the regular characters again.
  • Eddie and Adam feel that even if Nikki and Paulo got off to a bad start with the fans, it was worth it to be able to do “Exposé”, which they feel is one of their favorite episodes.
  • It was Damon’s idea to bury them alive.
  • Through a messenger, Damon asked if it was alright if Vincent, the dog, could have magic powers and die in the season 3 finale.
  • It was Adam Horowitz’s idea to cast Billy Dee Williams as ‘The Cobra’ in Exposé
  • It takes about 10 days to shoot an episode of Lost, but around 5 weeks total to complete it. Which is pretty cool considering that it can take 5 months or even 5 years to complete a feature film which is usually only twice as long as a Lost episode.
  • The man falling by the building Hurley was having a meeting in was not Locke.
  • Rose and Bernard will be back this season. The characters are “always on the island” but the actors have other things to do so the schedule has to fit.
  • As we know, some characters are named after philosophers, other names are just randomly picked, but from now on Carlton will be using fakenamegenerator.com.
  • Locke is unhappy that Ben is using too many technological resources and is loosing his sense of tune with the island.
  • According to the writers, “the box” is a metaphor.

Lost writers sign deal through 2010

Variety reports that Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis who wrote last night’s Lost episode “Tricia Tanaka is Dead” have signed a overall deal with with Lost production company ABC Television Studio (formerly Touchstone Television) through 2010:

“Lost” co-exec producers Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz have inked a mid-seven figure overall deal that will keep them on the ABC Television Studio island through 2010.

Three-year pact calls for the scribes to continue on “Lost,” rising to exec producers by the second year of the deal. They’ll also create and develop new projects for the studio.

I’m really happy for Adam and Edward since they have proven to be great writers with a nice sense of humor. The fact that they have signed a deal through 2010 worried me a bit at first, since I’m not sure that Lost could maintain the high quality if stretched out to 6 or 7 seasons. However, after having a closer look, the deal could just mean that they will be working for ABC television, and not necessarily on Lost until 2010.

We’ll see what happens. Either way, I’m happy for Adam and Ed!

Lost writers discuss upcoming Hurley episode

Lost writers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis who wrote this week’s upcoming Hurley centric Lost episode “Tricia Tanaka is Dead” recently shared some thoughts with SciFi Wire:

“What’s exciting about the next one is it’s really in the tradition of some Hurley episodes, like ‘Everybody Hates Hugo,’” said Kitsis, who co-wrote the episode with Horowitz. “It’s kind of a lighter episode. It’s emotional, but what also, I think, people will really be excited about is we’re back on the beach. You’ll definitely get another piece of Hurley backstory.”

“And I would say, make sure you watch ’til the very last second,” Horowitz added.

The two Lost writers have become quite good at telling stories about Hurley:

“Adam and I are lucky enough that this is our third Hurley story,” Kitsis said. He and Horowitz also wrote ‘Dave’ and ‘Everybody Hates Hugo.’ They say that they’ve become the Hurley specialists on the show.

“We fell in love with him, and we tell everyone to back off,” Horowitz said with a laugh. “We love writing for Hurley. … It’s a challenge coming up with any story, but the truth is, actually, the story this week was something that was conceived a really long time ago. So it was one of those stories we’ve been waiting to tell.”

Both “Dave” and “Everybode Hates Hugo” were really good Lost episodes, so I’m very much looking forward to see how Hurley’s story continues.

Possible spoiler

Lost co-executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis are two guys we haven’t written much about, so it was fun to see that SciFi.com had managed to ask them a few questions about their work and what we can expect from the upcoming Lost season 3.

“As writers we come in every day ready to play,” Kitsis said. “We don’t take a day off. To us, Lost isn’t a job. It’s a lifestyle. It’s a way of life. It’s almost like we forget. You go to the newsstand, and you see it in Newsweek or in TV Guide, and you’re like, ‘Oh, right. It goes out.’ We’re just guys. We’re just people that sit in a room and come up with stuff, and then it’s like you forget that everyone sees it.”

Besides talking about their job, Horowitz and Kitsis commented on the fact that actors who portray characters who have died on the show are back on the set in Hawaii.

“Just because you’re dead doesn’t mean your story is over,” Horowitz said with a laugh.

Kitsis added: “We think we’re going to blow some minds this year.”

As a sidenote, I just want to clarify that we have not reported about which of the actors who portray now dead characters are back on the set because it can be considered a spoiler.
