Why is Locke so interested in Sawyer’s name?

In The Hunting Party, Locke and Sawyer got into an interesting discussion about Sawyer’s name:
Possible Spoiler
SAWYER: Are you sure Mike went this way?
LOCKE: Why do you ask?
SAWYER: Oh, I don’t know, Mr. Clean, I probably would have gone around Mt. Vesuvius.
LOCKE: Why’d you pick that name?
SAWYER: Ain’t it obvious? All you need’s an earring and a mop.
LOCKE: No, your name. Why’d you pick Sawyer?
SAWYER: What do you mean, pick?
LOCKE: After the census Hurley gave me the flight manifest. Your name is James, right? James Ford.
SAWYER: What’s it to you?
LOCKE: Just an interesting name to choose, is all. Who’d you get it from?
SAWYER: Who says I got it from anybody?

Locke’s last comment feels like he already knew that Sawyer got his name from someone.
I’ve been checking the forums, and apparently, some people believe that the original Sawyer who killed our Sawyer’s parents, could be Locke’s wealthy father, Anthony Cooper. We already know that Locke’s father tricked John into giving him his kidney. Is it possible that Cooper’s fortune originates from a former career as a con-man under the name Sawyer?
On another note, anyone else believe the name James Ford might be a reference to James Ford, the 19th century pirate?

I´ve read somewhere on the net that Locke and Sawyer are connected to each other, which is something that probably will appear in an episode in the nearest future. Everyone on the island are connected to each other in one way or another, which I find really exciting and interesting. They are all put there for a reason, which they are, cause there is no way that it all is a coincidence. Maybe Locke and Sawyer are related in one way or another?

The theory that Locke and Sawyer are connected sort of intrigues me (in theory)…Let’s assume that Locke’s father is the same Con Man who conned Sawyer (James if you will) into Killing the real Sawyer (who we find out didn’t kill the Ford family) so the one responsible would be Locke’s father the real CON-MAN…it sounds real complicated doesn’t it????

Maybe Sawyer was just an alias Locke’s dad used back in his younger days?
The man our Sawyer (James), killed was not the real Sawyer. His name was Frank Duckett and Sawyer got fooled into killing him by Hibbs, whom Duckett owed money.

I just watched Lockdown today (I missed it when it originally aired) and now I am convinced that Mr. Cooper is the real Sawyer, it makes complete sense. I love how everyone is connected!
