What do you miss on The Lost Blog?
2 years, 5 months ago by AndreasRead more: The Lost Blog
During the summer I will be tweaking, redesigning and adding content to The Lost Blog to make the site look and feel even better when season 3 starts. This is your chance to change things.
What features are you missing on The Lost Blog? Do you have a great idea for how the site could be improved?
Write down your ideas in the comments and if I see something I like, I might implement your ideas on the site.
This is not to say that we will take a break from reporting on all things Lost just because we are waiting for next season. The Lost Experience is still going strong and we are not even near finished discussing the Lost season 2 finale, so keep checking in, we’re here all week!

Andreas, I love the format of this Blog and the fact that most of the discussions here are thoughful and intelligent. (Not to mention the “no spolier” rule is great!) Thanks for all the great insights during the season and I look forward to many more great discussions!

I miss RSS and IE7 support. First of all, truncated feeds suck since I can’t read the article in my newsreader. Second of all, please install the beta of IE7 and take a look at the site - it’s unreadable! Both of these together mean I can’t read my LostBlog!

Thanks for the support Lesley.
Brad,I might experiment with full feeds, we’ll see.
As for the IE7 issue, I will install the beta and take a look, however, The Lost Blog is xhtml and css compliant so if IE7 causes the error and not my code, I won’t change the site to please the IE developers, they should implement current web standards into their browser.
I will of course do my best to make the site look perfect in all browsers if possible.
Meanwhile, I would suggest that you give Firefox a try, it’s a great browser.

Maybe it would be a good idea to add content related to LOST but not in a blog form? But still have the blog?

I agree with Tyler. A discussion board would be perfect. We need to discuss! Because we are not really commenting the articles, the “posting” goes beyond commenting. Posting in forums with topics would be great.

I have nothing that useful to suggest aside (since I guess Andreas and I talk anyway about his vision for the site)… just wanted to add my kudos as well to say that it’s great you are so open to fan contributions.

Discussion boards are nice, but the problem that occurs in them are that you will have several different threads all relating to the exact same topic. I personally like the linear feel Andreas has going here. I only have to click on one article to read everything about it as opposed to 10 different threads with repeated questions and answers.
I know you can’t affect this Andreas, but I would however like it if people actually read the entire blog before asking questions. I’ve read the 500+ post blog and seen the same thing over and over again. How many people asked if those guys in the snow were Russians? Even after the fact that several people had proven otherwise? How about a link to “report this post as redundant and unless”?

It’d be great if the font size in the comment box in Firefox was bigger; right now it’s teeny. Looks like there’s a clear/float and background-color issue in IE7 which should be easy to fix up to get it working nice there. (I know you say you won’t change to suit MS but a *lot* of people do use IE still; and a lot will soon be using IE7…it’s worth taking the time to fix the bugs in there). Also, there’s a few errors in the HTML code but it’s no biggie.
Full feeds in my RSS browser would be ideal; all the other blogs I read have recently switched to full feeds and put in ads in the feeds (if you’re worried about losing adsense money).
Thanks for a great site!

I will take a look at the IE7 thing this weekend and try to fix it. I know that changing things to suit Microsoft is probably a discussion that only interests webdesigners/developers like myself and Rachel so I won’t go into detail on that matter, but what I meant was basically that I believe that IE should follow standards like the rest of the browsers. Of course I will do my best to make the site look good in IE too, even if it involves a small hack. However, I wouldn’t re-code a large part of the site to make it work in IE when the ones who should re-write their code really is Microsoft’s IE team. Either way, I haven’t given IE7 a try yet so to be honest, it’s too soon for me to judge it.
I will give full feeds a try either in some weeks or when Season 3 starts. Personally I just use RSS for notification and prefer to read the content on the sites since I enjoy the design, but I understand that some prefer reading the full content in their RSS reader.
The small font in the comment box will be fixed. Thanks for reminding me Rachel!
As for repetitive comments and that kind of stuff I want to implement some way for visitors (or at least a couple of regulars) to report comments so that they can be easily monitored. I try to read all comments, but as I’m sure some of you know, it gets a bit hard to keep your head clear when reading 500 comments in a day.
I would also like to implement some way to see which comments are new since your last visit, and I’m also thinking about adding gravatars to the comments since they might simplify finding the last comment you read.
Edit: Oh, and thank you all for the positive feedback. It makes us all really happy that you enjoy the site.

PS I forgot to say how much I appreciate your “no spoilers” rules - we’re a few episodes behind here in NZ and I never feel like I’m going to ruin it by visiting your blog :)

I am a new visitor to your site and love it. I think it is a new stop on my daily reading.
About the IE 7 deal. My day job involves managing over 130 websites. IE does have the largest market share and all website should adhere to IE users, BUT I am not recoding any of our sites to display correctly in IE 7 Beta.
It is BETA, which means they are working a lot of the bugs out. I have been keeping an eye on IE 7 Beta for a long time, and they have gradually been tweaking it to display sites correctly. I have a few sites that displayed poorly in the early version of IE 7 Beta, but now they display correctly…w/out recoding them.
For the IE 7 Beta users - this is why it is in BETA - you shouldn’t expect every website to display correctly. If seeing websites not displaying correctly in the Beta version is bugging you….you may wanna consider reverting backe to IE 6:

Keep up the good work. I love your site.

This is a great place to visit. I’m always amazed at how many fans of Lost there are around the world. Maybe you could change the Blog Names to include the country, if they want it to be known?
I’m always recommending this blog to any Lost fan I meet.
You’ve done a great job.

Is there a thread for general discussion the Season 2 finale? Lots of things I’d like to hear ideas on. I’d like to see what others picked up on besides whether Michael will be back or not.
