I haven't seen '316' yet, nor have I read comments for 'This Place' nor '316'. Just wanted to post here since it seems relevant: the picture of Aaron posted for 'The Little Prince' episode bears an uncanny resemblance to Charles Widmore, imo. Casting for Lost has been superb w/ regards to finding actors w/ strongly similar features, i.e. Locke and teenaged Locke (S4, E11 'Cabin Fever'). No theory, just an observation.
Love your discussions!

I never said you couldn't change the future but there are thousands of ways to get to it. Check out ew.com for some really cool Lost info. Doc Jensen does some amazing recaps and insights.
Ooops, important typo...

In other words, you can't (instead of you can) change the outcome of the future and have multiple futures. I don't think they wanted us to get hung up on CAN'T as though it's impossible.
Can you say SLIDERS?

Well, if the show is true to itself and to the premise of immutability of the past, you're always going to have a few conundrums. Especially if there's FREE WILL.

You can only act based on information you're given, and your understanding of the world, as is true for all of us. But since time/space has some holes in it, or loops in it, and time travel is POSSIBLE in Lost-land, it still has it's own logic. Again, the idea of the 2 time lines, the general march of time from past to present to future, and your personal timeline of birth-life-death-ghostontheIslandorspiritthatappearsto Hurley.

You can pass up or down the main line (and so far, the island hoppers are only hopping up and down the past) and do things in the past, on your personal timeline progression, but still the actions happened in the past. It doesn't mean you can't act, just that you can't change the facts of the past. If, say, you wanted to save Boone, or, sniff, Charlie, you can't. But if, say, you meet and talk to people like Alpert, you can, because that's in your personal range of action.

You now become part of the facts of the past, & since you didn't know the facts for that action, it's not like you messed anything up, in fact, you're probably acting in line with FATE.

And the heck with Free Will, anyway. But that's another discussion.

I also believe that Daniel is wrong in his prediction that you cannot change the past. We all just assume he is right but he is obviously not Mr. Know everything about time travel as evidenced by his frying Teresa's brain. Maybe things can be corrected if done at the right time.
Despite what Daniel, Hawkins AND the writers tell us?
+++++++++++++
I think folks are missing the point about what Dan and Hawking said. You CAN change the past (see Desmond saving Charlie over and over), but it WILL be course corrected. That's what they mean by can't. Also D & C stated that they weren't go to allow for several time lines. In other words, you can change the outcome of the future and have multiple futures. I don't think they wanted us to get hung up on CAN'T as though it's impossible.

RE: More Time Travel Theories than you can Shake a Fire-Tipped Spear At--

Well, that tears it. I'm going to say it. We obviously need a Time Lord to figure this out. Where's the Doctor when you need him?

Hmm. Maybe he's consulting for the show already?

That's my favorite theory so far ; )

You guys are great--ready for the next installment!
