At the conclusion of last week’s episode we had our beloved Hugo leading the remaining cast members into the mouth of madness – directly to the MIB/Evil Locke. The final scene of the episode was eery in the extremely satisfied/intriguing manner that the MIB stared down Jack. Overall the episode revealed a fair amount of new information:
- What exactly the whispers are
- That the MIB is extremely concerned with Desmond’s abilities and demeanor
- That Jack is taking a back seat, for now
The episode this week is rumored to be multi-centric, but I have to think that given the title much of the episode will focus on the MIB trying to convince Jack to leave the Island with him.

I am still trying to figure out why Locke would remember the island if Desmond ran over him. He was already in a wheel chair and had been hurt before..unless somehow he’s hit by Desmond and he remembers the island healed him or something…

Even though Jack is taking a back seat, Flocke knows he needs him. If he gets Jack, he thinks the others will follow.
I had been wondering who this week would be about…things are really heating up! Can’t wait.
Interesting that this is the pic they used for this week.
The two sides don’t fully mesh…Ilana is dead and I wouldn’t think Richard is on the other side…so I don’t think the pic is about what side you are on?

I would argue Des running over Locke in FSW will “wake up” Locke in FSW about what he did (happened) on the island WHILE HE WAS ALIVE. Enlightened-Locke will now help Des “wake up” the rest of the Losties, but most imporatantly help defeat the MIB through FSW (by telling Jack/rest of the island losties how to beat MIB on “island time”).
Sort of like a medium from FSW to island time eventually meshing both timelines and defeating the MIB???

Think about this ,when desmond was pushing the button in the hatch , ” to save the world” remember he missed a few seconds, making flight 815 to crash on to the island , and also giving locke the ability to walk again , so in the parallel universe , when desmond runs him over , its kinda the opposite , maybe he will walk or remember , but everything is somehow puzzled together

I have been thinking about the two timelines and wondering do you think they existing at the same time? Island time is current (2007) and FSW is 2004, but are the occuring at the same time? (sorry if this has been discussed recently) but even though the FSW is the past (and a different past at that) it seems like it is occuring at the same time as 2007 island time.

And I have one more thought/question. While at coffee today another friend and I were discussing LOST and wondered if this season will also end with an explosion of some sort as all of the other seasons have? If so, What? The original plane crash? Or something else?

Des hitting Locke with his car was pretty drastic. Enough to kill a person. Almost on par with being pushed out the window by his father. Here’s a crazy thought; will Locke die again? If he did would that affect Flocke on the island? Hopefully the theory of Jack operating on him is what will happen. I guess it will awaken one or both of them.
The alliances formed will be interesting. You have two alpha males, Jack and Sawyer, and they have butt heads more times than can be counted. It won’t be good if they are on opposing teams. There’s no predicting which one Kate will choose to follow? She’s so wishy washy.

@Miss Lost or whomever else – Man I watched this awesome show on Science network last night (on a random channel changing whim) and it was all about Time travel…Being the LOST fan I am I watched it for any detail that could help me figure out the current situation on the show…I think I found one…Imagine 2 trains speeding side by side…1 is Losties universe A and the other 1 is FSW-universe…The island is the check-in station where the trains merge (converge)…When you exit the island it’s now one single track…Everything not on Train 1 will be there when it merges with train 2 (The universes solution to a 2-timeline paradox)…As it leaves the Island this new train is the new single universe (fresh with photo shopped memories for the island losties like what happened to Desmond in season 5)…This was the importance of introducing the mental-time travel aspect…
That’s where I think LOST is heading and I think people who we see as being dead won’t be dead anymore once it turns into a single track again….
I got some more ideas on this if requested…

I’m sure this was discussed before in another thread, so forgive me. It still bothers me. I have my suspicions that when Miles told Sawyer that Juliet said “It worked”, that he was lying. Am I the only one that feels this way? Sawyer had to force him and I felt Miles acted strange. I know there’s the theory that she could have been pregnant so Miles made it up as not to add to Sawyer’s misery. OR did she have some revelation because she was near death?

Season 1: Yes, they did explode the hatch door towards the end of the show, but there were a couple of other scenes and then the show ends w/Locke and Jack looking down

Season 3: Ends at the airport, end of the runway w/a plane flying over the heads of Jack and Kate leaving in her car w/Jack yelling “We have to go back!!!”.

I think we will have plenty of explosions between now and the last scenes of the show. I just don’t think they will play the part they have in the past, because this season won’t have a cliffhanger.

I love how everyone keeps running into one another. I was hoping Ilana was still working with Jacob and was looking for Claire because of that… it was nice how they pulled it together though… Now Jack knows about his sister. And isn’t it nice how in the same ep, the sideways world and island world have the same awkward meeting between Jack and Claire?
I think Sayid spared Des his life!

I’m still holding on to my unpopular notion that Milton is Penny’s maiden name–her mother’s name–and that she’s Jack’s ex. The only clues I’m stretching to fit that theory… 1) David is a piano prodigy, as is Daniel Widmore 2) David played the same piece for the recital that Daniel was playing during the party set-up (Fantasie Somethingorother), 3) Penny meeting Des in the stadium–a parallel to when he met Jack there. It’s totally wack, and it clearly makes much more sense for it to be Juliette. But at the same time–geesh, I don’t know. Too obvious?
We shall see. Then again, maybe we won’t.

Hey everyone, it’s been awhile! Even though I live for the show, like many, I have been feeling that this season has been less than stellar…then came the Desmond episode & it’s kicked ass ever since. Here’s what I’m thinking after tonight’s episode: Jack (in the alternate reality) saves Locke during surgery and, of course, also cures his paralysis. Later Desmond shows him the light & he recognizes Locke for Flocke and this is when he realizes what his destiny is…to kill Flocke in island reality. Jack will be able to “fix it” after all.

Thoughts on who is the Last Recruit? Obvious answer is Jack, since MIB worked on him throughout the ep to get him on MIB’s side.
But wondering if the person doing the “recruiting” might instead be Des. Perhaps the Last Recruit is Sayid, who is now conning MIB. I doubt Sayid killed Des, as he told MIB. And he was away from MIB for a long time, enough, perhaps, for Des to sway him back from the dark side?
Sideways Des is certainly “recruiting.” I wonder why it was so important for him to facilitate the Claire/Jack meeting?

Finally, Jin and Sun reunited.
Conformation for those of us that believed MIB was appearing as Christian all along.
I would have liked to see all the Losties stay together but I knew Jack and Sawyer would butt heads. I was proud of Jack jumping ship because he was acting on what he truly believed. What he said about Flocke wanting them all to leave was true. Some people bust on Jack for making wrong decisions but Locke has made just as many blunders, the worst being “You have to die to bring them all back.”
When Kate told Claire that Locke was not Locke and that “he isn’t one of us”, it reminded me of Jack’s tattoo. Wasn’t it translated as “He walks among us but he’s not one of us”?
I get the impression that Flocke really hates Locke. He puts him down and bad mouths John every chance he gets. Speaking of John I was reminded about how creepy he was in the beginning of season 1. The scenes that stick in my mind the most are when he is sitting on the beach and smiles revealing the orange wedge in his mouth AND when he whispers to Walt “Do you want to know a secret?”
Does it seem like Smokey was after John as soon as they crashed or am I over analyzing? I just get this weird feeling like they’re inter-twined somehow or Locke was slowly being possessed (?) by Smokey from the beginning. Maybe the creepy factor was to keep us enthralled and guessing who is this strange man.

Another episode guns were pointed at Tina Fey and no one fired, I’m beginning to think she’s as unstoppable as FLocke.

So I do think Sayid is no longer ‘on the dark side’ …or at least has changed to some degree. In his zombie form he has no feelings as he explained a few episodes ago. Then he told Flocke he just killed an unarmed man in cold blood (or something like that) so he needed a moment…if he had no feeling he wouldn’t need a moment because he wouldn’t care.
My theory is desmond made a good choice in phrasing his sentences and somehow snapped sayid out of his zombie-like state of being and that it took sayid so long because he was helping desmond out of the well. That’s what I hope anyway.
In the FSW, I also think Claire will go into labor sometime soon and end up at the hospital. I’m curious how Kate and Sawyer and Sayid will end up there…I just feel like everyone is gonna meet up there. And my gut is that Juliet is Jack’s ex-wife and will end up at the hospital to pick up david b/c Jack’s performing surgery and can’t take him home by 7.
Also refresh my memory cause at the moment, I can’t remember…where are ben and miles on the island?

I really enjoyed this one – this was a great episode!
Thoughts:
First, it is irritating that it sometimes takes our characters days and days (episodes & episodes) to get from one side of the island to the other, then other times, like in this one, Sawyer & Kate are there in no time…whaaat?
Second: We have seen UnLocke offer something to those dubious of him to entice them to come with him. He offers Richard – chance to be with his wife again, Claire – reuniting with her son, Sayid – reuniting with his wife. My question is: what was/is he offering Jack? Nothing? So is everything UnLocke does just a lie? In any case, Jack does not appear to me to want anything. He has given up on being with Kate since her only motivation is for Claire to be with Aaron again. For that matter, what could he have offered Sawyer and Kate? The chance to leave? They already did that, without his help. These plot points bug me as I like to think we should be able to follow the actions of our characters clearly.
I do think the explanations on the show are simpler than most of the theories we’ve made up over the years, and more obvious, once made clear, which I enjoy.
P.S. What are Ben & Richard & Miles doing all this time? (Back to the “This island is only big when it’s convenient for the story” thing).

Frank Lapidus is bugging me. Why is he still around? It seems like our Losties think he is important… they drag him with them wherever they go. Ilana and crew thought he was important, since “he may be a candidate” (though we now know he’s not).
So why is he still around? The way I see it, his only value is that he’s a pilot. If Sawyer’s plan works, they’d be leaving by submarine, so they wouldn’t need him. MIB is the one who wants the plane, but he’s the only one who doesn’t seem interested in Lapidus.
If major characters on LOST will not make it to the end, as is the rumor, I’m betting on Mr. Red Shirt Pilot.

My boss said “what if Des died during the electroblast and Jacob took him over? That’s why he’s different.” Not totally on board with that yet, but interesting. I HAVE thought that FSW-Des seems Jacob-like in his “intervening” with our Losties as well as his bond with Ilana. I am going to go on record as saying I think MIB was being honest with Jack about taking the form of his father. I do think that this was their attempt at answering a question.
Even Claire tried to confirm that he took on their fathers form.
The part that seems deceiving was when he explained why he chose John Locke. Jack did not buy it and I think even more he is realizing that Locke did know things…that the island did comunicate with him. He may not have been “all knowing” (i say that lightly) as Jacob appeared to be, but the island did guide him many times.
I think Jack is starting to rely on his instincts and “trust” what the island is telling him.
Finally, I do think the theory about Jacob being Des now is interesting, but what we might be seeing in Desmond is just a sense of clarity. He has SEEN things and so he knows what he has to do!
I think Desmond is doing these things to save the people he loves and to get back to them.

The key has to be the kid in the jungle talking about the rules “you know the rules.”
Rules imply that there is a higher authority enforcing them. The kid in the jungle just makes a remark and wanders back into the jungle! Me thinks there are others watching the ongoing Jacob/MIB struggle, maybe MIB’s crazy mom is holding score from the jungle.
Also if MIB cannot be killed by Widmore’s rockets, what’s the point of killing everyone around him? On the otherhand if the recruits are that crucial to his plan what’s the point of the warning, just do it!!!

On one hand, Locke asking Jack “why dont you just ask me…” does sound like a trick, but on the other Christian did ask the same thing to Locke (“why don’t you ask me the question that matters?”) or something like that… SO, He could know that cuz he is locke, or he could know it cuz he always watches the island…
What I figure now, is that fLockes whole plan has to do with the fact that he has watched the island, basically for all time… he knows what will happen, because he has already seen it before, and he knows pretty much everyones move… genius the way it turns out that Locke was hands down the best person to mimic in terms of tricking Jack… even seems to me that Jack jumped off the boat, because something inside him knew that he needed to go back to Locke, just like it had happened before…

How does he know what he knows?
And how does Dez play into his plans?

I guess fLocke telling Sayid to kill Dez was a deal breaker for me thinking fLocke might be good.
I’m not sold on either side quite yet. (won’t get fooled again…I hope)
Surely Sayid did not kill Dez; he knows his woman would never approve. Smart of Dez to point that out.
But if Sayid is now not the old Sayid, why would he hesitate to kill Dez and why would he even care to be reunited with his old squeeze?

Sawyer swims to the boat with his rifle getting wet…
unclear on the concept of firearms and saltwater not mixing?
How does he know how to operate a hi-tech motor driven sail boat..and is he that skilled at hot wiring the thing? Maybe Freckles helped but…hard as saltwater to swallow.
When the rest of the gang arrives to jump on the boat —the thing is tied up??? And so Claire comes along to get the drop on them? hunh?
No one thought to have someone hang back to ck if they were followed by a crazy lady?
And if I were Sawyer, I’d have had that boat nose out ready to hit the gas the nanosecond the gang arrived with one hand on my (still dry) rifle pointed at the beach. Or at least had Freckles with a gun trained on the beach. Hello?
And then later;
You KNOW you’re landing on Widmore’s island but most of them don’t have their guns up and ready for business. How bout this idea;
send one person onto the beach ahead to see if it’s ok?
Me; I’d be shooting the second I saw Widmore’s gang. No talky talky for me.
And now they are going to shoot the gang on the beach? No way; something will prevent that…
but what?
Maybe Widmore’s son will show up to save the day?
Or Charlie will show up and start singing…and everyone will drop their guns to cover their ears…could happen. Or a Polar bear will…never mind.

I am trying to wrap my arms around the scene where Sun recognizes Locke and blurts out… “No… no. It’s him.” …and have not been able to correlate any similar recognition with Locke in the Alt-Sideways other than Desmond. I realize others have possibly recognized each other in prev epis, but Ben, Jack and Hurley didn’t reco him.
I have really liked the idea that each of our characters has his/her own “Constant” and that is what entwines them in all timelines. Other than the epi where FLocke tries to persuade Sun to come with him to Jin (and that wasn’t really a cruelty imposed on her), I remember Locke always being supportive, caring and helpful to Sun. So, is that moment her reality check with Locke? I wonder where that road will lead…
Any ideas?

I was thinking that the Locke in the FSW was actually the MIB who escaped the island. I was thinking this for awhile, but I have had my doubts after this last episode. So, I thought that Sun when she said “No,… No. It’s him.” I was thinking she recalled when she was on the island and everyone along with the MIB left the island. She must have also recalled something which made a lasting impression that it was a horrible mistake to have him leave the island and that is why she reacted so.

I like the time travel comment about trains meeting in the station and merging to one. I also think the two timelines that we are currently watching will converge in the end, helped by a blast of electromagnetic energy supplied by Widmore.
I think this not so much because I think it makes sense, or that specific events in the story are leading me to think this, but its a simple explanation to something that we’ve all thought about for years. How will it all end???
In the beginning, the writers pitched a story to someone, and that someone had to be sold on their idea. Think of it as the elevator pitch. They have always said that they knew all along how this story was going to end. I’ve always wondered, how did they summarize this story to the networks? How much DETAIL did they go into??
Its only recently that I realized I was going about it all wrong – The right question is: what ending, what simple ending, could they have visioned right from the beginning? It has to be something so simple that all the detail, all the events, characters, lives that they pulled into the story would not – could not – effect how it all turns out.
This is why I now believe the end will be a merging of all events into one collossal reset back to the point where all the characters lives first intersected – the point of the original plane crash. Not sure how, not sure why. What did Jacob mean when he says, “It only ends once, anything that happens before that is just progress”
The show will end as it began. Maybe next time through they will be make progress….???

The dialogue between Jack and MIB was so cut and dry that it could be perceived as a lie. Because time is running out we’re getting quick simplistic answers for some mysteries. I do believe MIB told Jack the truth even though most of what leaves his lips are lies. I still think MIB=Christian. Jacob was not trapped on the island and therefore traveled off the island as a flesh and blood man. We saw him interact with our Losties. Not so with MIB. If he can turn himself into a Smokey killing machine, I have no problem believing he can appear as a person (spirit) off the island. He never came into physical contact with anyone did he? At the hospital with Jack, the smoke alarm without a battery went off. Sounds like Smokey to me. I don’t know what the whole water thing is about or if he’s even telling the truth. Ilana said Smokey was stuck in Locke’s form now but I wouldn’t be surprised if he was still able to manifest himself as Christian. I think it was him at the barracks with Ben, Sun and Lapidus.
I think the instances when Walt appeared was one of the reasons Walt was special. I think it was him not MIB.

This is my first post but I’ve been reading comments here and there for a bit. This question doesnt really have anything to do with The Last Recruit but timeline wise is puzzling to me. When 315 crashed on the island, it was still 2007 for Jack, Kate, Sun, Ben. Hurley, Sayid, Lockes corpse and the others on the plane llana, ect.. Now Jack, Kate, HUrley, and Sayid are met by Sawyer and are brought to DHARMA land and sun, ben, locke’s corpse, llana, and jacobs people are all somehwere else on the island(i think the beach). So obviously on the island it is 1977 hence everyone that didnt leave is working for DhARmA. And the incident happened in 1977 keeping the plane from crashing in 2004 and causing the FSW phenomenoa. Did the Ajiria passangers that didnt crash with kate, hurley, sayid, and Jack land on the island in 1977 also or was there a timwarp during the crash that caused 4 of them in land in 1977 and the rest landed (on the beach?) in 2007. after the incident, yeah the crash never happened and everyone is still in their dharma suits flocke ben sun and the others are on the beach. jacob is dead, ect.. im trying not to make any theories here as this post is more of a question and im about to so im gonna simplify the question without involving desmond and confusing myself even further. What is the current time on the island? is it 2007, 1977, amix of two? does anyone know what im trying to say?

I think Flocke=Christian because wasn’t Christian the one telling Locke that he had to go find the others and bring them back and that he would have to die to do that? That to me is the main reason I believe what Flocke told Jack. Also, I may be remembering wrong, but when Jack saw Christian in the hospital, wasn’t he drinking? Could it be a hallucination?

The reason we assume they flahsed to 2007 is because the plane flew in from 2007… but there certainly was something funky going on with time on that island, so maybe the plane crossing the threshold traveled back three years.
I dunno. I think the FSW time and Island time are irrelevant… they may be happening at the same time, they may not be – either way, FSW losties’ recognitions of another life are affecting the Island losties… I don’t think the two timelines have to be congruent in order for this to happen.

It’s rather convienant though that everyone just happened to be together again on the island in 2007. When Locke turned the wheel and was zapped into the desert, he lost three years 2004-2007 and ended up in 2007… also, even though they were time travelling on the island, it seemed that all along they were effecting things that happened off the island in 2007… like when Faraday talked to Desmond in 2004 on the island, Desmond didn’t remember it until 2007 off the island… My guess is that 2004/2007 are always opposite in the mirror… since now things are “mirrored” in the sideways its been reversed (?) and so peeps in 2004 are remembering things that happen from a 2007 perspective (?)

I think Hurley’s visions especially of Jacob are not Jacob but MIB. It seems what “Jacob” has been telling Hurley to do has resulted in tragedy. Taking Sayid to the Temple resulted in Sayid’s “resurrection” and the death of Dogen and the others at the Temple. Ilana was killed because Hurley lied and said he agreed with Richard about the dynamite. Gunfire couldn’t kill Smokey but I feel Ilana had an important role to play and MIB trough Hurley eliminated her. The plan has been moved along because now people, even Jack have been following Hurley because he claims he knows what to do and says “Trust me”. I thought Hurley acted strangely when he took Jacob’s ashes. There has to be something significant about those ashes. I don’t think Ilana just took them to have some of Jacob’s remains as one would keep a loved one’s ashes in an urn for remembrance.

In a way Flocke was right about Locke being the biggest fool. Giving him the ability to walk again was his downfall. Other than Rose being cured of her cancer, John benefited immensely. I assume he was paralyzed for a very long time and who wouldn’t feel reborn. I remember him saying he looked into the eye of the island and it was beautiful. He had at least two encounters with Smokey that we know of in the beginning episodes. So I believe John had been targeted immediately. He was fooled into not pushing the button (amongst other things) which helped move MIB’s plan further along. Sad to say, he was one of the biggest pawns in this scheme.

Some of the best tearjerkers were when Des was on the freighter and he and Penny talked on the phone expressing their love for one another. Also when Penny came to the rescue of Des and our Losties finally reuniting them. The scene with Sawyer grasping Juliet’s hand and begging her to hang on and not leave him while they expressed their love was another one. I had goosebumps and cried watching. It got you right in the heart. Some of the best acting on the show were in these moments. Sun and Jin deserved just as much considering their long separation.

Sayid telling Desmond basically that he believed “he” could bring the woman he loved back because “he” brought him(Sayid)back has me wondering more than ever how exactly that was possible. The Temple pool was discolored and apparently lost it’s healing qualities after Jacob was killed. Based on what they’ve shown us, MIB has far greater abilities than Jacob ever did.

Re Des’s motives for hitting Locke. I think in this instance Des was carrying on as he has so far – interceding in events to ensure certain people come in contact with one another – rather than acting out of malice or vindictiveness. If he hadn’t hit and injured Locke, then Locke wouldn’t have been brought to the hospital and been operated on by Jack.

On the serious side regarding MIB as Christian, he has appeared as Alex to Ben after the 315 crash. Could it be MIB/Smokie when we don’t hear the whispers (Christian, Alex to Ben, Jacob to Hurley) and not MIB/Smokie when we hear the whispers (Michael to Hurley)? Did I miss where they specifically stated that he is stuck as Locke because Locke’s body was buried or is that just speculation at this point?

I had a little Epiphany last night…
I didn’t see it before but my friend had just given me a Video of this Russian Vampire Movie that has two parts. Most of you may not know it, but it does have a sort of cult following.
Some samples are on YouTube.
Two parts called;
DAYWATCH

NIGHTWATCH
I’m betting that these films are a big influence on LOST as there some possible similarities…not overt ones with fangs, etc. but in the idea of duality.
The balance of good and evil and of the supernatural.
I haven’t worked it out in detail…

I’m getting the idea that the 2 worlds are similar in 1 way. Hurley was good in both worlds. Kate is bad. Sawyer is good but misguided. Jack has same problems in both worlds, always trying to do the right thing but making things worse at times. Just a theory of mine. I think Kate does kill somebody on the island so she will always be on the island; likewise, she goes to jail in the other world. Just thinking outloud here.

Two thoughts:
That kid Flocke sees sometimes is getting older real fast. That tells me that Flocke is running out of time and has to hurry. Also I think the kid is Jacob.
We see Widmore fighting against Flocke. What isn’t he interested in chasing Ben anymore? I think that in Season 4 Widmore chased Ben in order to stop him from turning the Wheel in an effort to prevent future events.

We’ve discussed MIB posing as Christian and leading Jack to fall off the cliff in S1. It seems he was trying to get rid of him from the get go. Shortly after that Jack was trapped in the cave in.
Locke was creepy from the beginning and after his first encounter with Smokey, he began being deceptive. He didn’t want to leave the island but there was more to it. It was evil of him to implicate Sawyer when Sayid was knocked out as he was trying to triangulate the transmission signal. Sayid dismissed it and Locke said Sawyer could have used a slow fuse such as a cigarette. We know it wasn’t Sawyer but him. It seems like he was already doing some of MIB’s bidding.

I just rewatched ‘walkabout’ and ‘white rabbit’, very interesting episodes considering what is going on now with Locke/MIB. In ‘walkabout’ there is a scene where John sees the smoke monster face to face and his face says it all… then they cut to a commercial. Later John talks about looking in to the eye of the island and what he saw was beautiful in ‘white rabbit’. At first I thought Locke died in a scene that we haven’t yet seen in that moment and since then he was the MIB, but watching further episodes that is clearly NOT the case in my opinion. However, I think Locke has been controlled, guided, or whatever you want to call it by the MIB since the very beginning. Locke’s uncanny ability to be at the right place at the right time, such as saving Jack from falling off the cliff in ‘white rabbit’ or saving Charlie from the heroin addiction and giving his guitar back or knowing when it is about to rain or numerous other situations like this, coupled with his dreams that are really just signs of things that the island is trying to tell him convince me completely that MIB has been there all along guiding Locke and manipulating him with the bait that he is special and that the island is talking to him. That being said, I do think the real Locke will play a big role in the end considering all the MIB slander about how foolish Locke was. MIB thinks Locke is dead and he slanders him due to his realization of how easy it was for him to manipulate Locke due to Locke’s need to feel special. I think the MIB is underestimating the rules and how the real Locke will play in the end game. How many times on Lost have we seen someone we thought to be an all-knowing character to turn out as only seeing part of the picture (I believe this is no different with MIB and Jacob for that matter)?
By the way, when Locke opens his eyes after being knocked down by the boar in ‘walkabout’ when they are hunting boar it seems awful reminiscent of the Desmond’s flashing (mental not physical). I think John has experienced something very similar to that on numerous occasions throughout this show from the start, again serving in his mind to enforce that he is special.
Watch those two episodes during this down week and tell me what you think…. I am interested to hear someone else’s opinion on this.

The re-airing of that episode just further confused me on who is Good and who is so called Evil. When Jacob first saw Richard he beat the crap out of him, until he found out that he talked to MIB and then he was Mr. Nice Guy. That was totally out of character for the Jacob that we’ve seen. Also the pop-up says that Jacob “CLAIMS to be protector of the island.”… to me that’s very significant. Also, there has been talk on how MIB/Locke has made fake promises to bring back loved ones from the dead. However, that’s not exactly what he did. He never said I can bring them back… he always says “do you want to see them again… I promise I can make that happen”. There is a huge difference. And MIB giving Richard his cross back was interesting… would the so-called Devil do that? Just guessing.

I haven’t posted much on this blog since the Faraday ‘time questions’ episodes but I have been lurking and reading. I think some of the insights on this forum are really sharp. In the few posts that I made I talked about quantum physics, relativity, and how it relates to how we perceive time. I think it is time for a quick revisit to that discussion.
Quantum physics tells us that every event that we experience is just one possible reality of many. All these realities take place at the same time and when we experience an event that becomes our reality. That is a very watered down explanation and even many theoretical physicists argue different takes on this, but for now lets just leave it at that.
What if the way we are perceiving the events in the different time lines is all wrong? We are looking at the events in a relativistic ‘linear’ timeline, but what if they are occurring in a sort of quantum state of all at once. Let me explain…
We are perceiving events to be happening as past, present, future, and sideways(what is this?). One linear timeline with a pre 815 crash time, a post ‘O6′ rescue real world time, some flashing between different times (70′s,etc) on the island, a 2007 return to island time (post ‘O6′ rescue and island flash stuff), and a flash sideways time. What if all of these are different realities and events that our characters are experiencing and are all taking place at the same time due to some quantum event causing some anomoly in time. Let me try and draw it maybe…

the original timeline was interrupted due to some quantum anomoly and the island comes in to existence along with Jacob and MIB and the game with all the rules. It only ends once, means that at some point they have to get all the timelines to reconcile and end this quantum event or a catastrophe such as time ripping apart as we know it will occur (hence the God help us all comments and ‘mumbo jumbo’). What if this ends once means the catastrophe or the reconciling of time. If time is reconciled than Jacob and MIB can go home (what ever that means?) and there is NO replacements for them! The island sinks because there is no longer a need for it! Our Lost characters go back about there daily normal lives but in a new reality with what ever future they made for themselves based on the decisions and relationships they forged during this quantum anomoly (hence the make your own kind of music… ‘mumbo jumbo’ from that song, and the letter from Penny to Des saying that you only need one person in life that loves you).
Or, maybe I am reading more into this than is there…
At any rate, I think this show had a sense of direction from the start and I truly believe the writers, producers, actors, etc. have all given us one of the best television series ever made. I am truly impressed and can’t wait to see how it all ends. I also believe that us loyal fans will be very satisfied in the end, I am not sure why some have been so negative lately.

Cal777 I think you are on the same thinking as me about Locke… The early seasons say it all IMO. Claires dream where Locke has the black and white stones for eyes… he’s two entities basically. MIB has taken over Lockes entity in the future,,, but MIB has the same power to mind flashh as Desmond (guessing…) and can use that power to flash through Locke at any point in Lockes life ala mind flash. Hence, the mysterious drawing of the smoke monster that kid Locke drew as a signal to Richard… (if MIB had been able to permanantly control Locke, he would have chosen the compass as well) …Locke in the sideways telling Ben to blackmail the principal,,, and MANY scenes in the earlier episodes… for instance, knowing when the rain is coming (my guess- this was the first time MIB flashed back through Locke)…

1. post #171 I had a little doubt but for the most part I believed this; whether off island or in two places at the same time. Someone had suggested that Jack was drinking at the time he saw Christian at the hospital but we weren’t really given any evidence that Jack was starting to have hallucinations.
2. This one surprises me a bit. I thought Jacob and MIB had been there a lot longer. Unless this is the point where MIB had finally tired of the situation and started looking for his loophole.
3. I often think of the Others and all the terrible things they did. I’ve concluded that Richard advised them but ultimately what they chose to do was their decision whether it was what Jacob wanted or not.
4. I remember Jack saying that to Kate in season 1. I believe it’s when she was finally going to tell Jack what she had done.

He was on the hook the moment he wiggled his toes. To add to John being at the right place at the right time and his weather predictions (and the ones listed above), there are numerous examples of Locke’s strange behavior and infinite knowledge on just about everything. To name a few, making glue, that hallucinogenic paste he made and put on Boone’s head (evil IMO), allowing Jin to get beaten up over the burning of the raft when he knew Walt did it (no one would have beaten up Walt), everything you ever wanted to know about boar and bagging one all by yourself, making a trebuchet, giving his compass to Sayid because he no longer needed one etc.. He had that strange premonition seeing Boone covered in blood and the Beechcraft crashing. When he was knocked down by the boar it looked like his paralysis was back and as he and Boone were looking for the plane he was quickly losing the function of his legs. One can only speculate what that was about. Doubt maybe? He was frustrated with not being able to open the hatch and told Boone that the island would tell them what to do. Later he pounds on the hatch and says something to the effect of “I’ve done everything you’ve asked me to do”. After Boone dies he says “The island demanded a sacrifice”. That’s just the tip of the iceberg in the beginning of the show.
I think John may still have a role to play in the end too.

I do not believe Jacob/MIB represent good vs. evil. I think they are two dudes who have been on the island for a long LONG time and both have different takes on what ‘it ends once’ means. Although they have different ideas, I do not think that either is completely right. From our perspective we have been baited into believing that they are all knowing in this game, but I think that will prove to be false in the end. Just like for the longest time we were baited into believing that Richard knew a lot more than he did.

I agree about Jacob and MIB. Neither one is absolutely good or bad; or all knowing as we’ve seen. I was taken aback seeing Richard terrified and not knowing what to do. It was so out of character from what we’ve seen. I feel we may be in for a twist.

It’s one of the ‘rules’. The attempts to reach the plane (which is unflyable) are really a series of tests, designed to establish who has the right attitude – basically somebody who doesn’t slavishly obey the rules, but still has a sense of vocation. Sending Sawyer off to Whidmore was a test; so was the suggestion the group split up and rendez-vous later. Jack was the only one who came back and that was when Flocke realised he’d finally got his candidate.
Sawyer was a definite possibility, but the fact he’s a policeman in the sideways world and his time as a security officer on the Dharma intiative show he isn’t quite the rebel we take him to be. Jack started out from a different direction – a doctor – but has finally started to find his inner rebel.

everyone is focusing on locke but its sawyer how is the mib looking to leave while jack is the new jacob looking to stay. While kate plays the mother role beacuse she has loved them both but differently.
The other thing is the blanket mother was making the white and blue one has appeared in a previous episode i thought when aaron was born but he was wraped in black.
And where is walt in all this how is he and michael brought to the hospital since everyone is showing up and in alternate life claire has not giving birth to aaron does aaron being born have something to do with all this. Does walt arrive then?
