All I know is to expect the unexpected.I hope we see a little more of "Eye Patch Guy" than just the shots of him in the moniter(I think perhaps this will be recorded footage of somekind)If there is a God ,Charlie will die an very painfull death while watching Clair Love another man. What will be the twist with the X-rays?...Has Kate been turned?...Is Hurley gay?...How did Heather Mills MaCartney get on the Island and what does she want with Jack?...all this and more tonight on LOST!!!
PS. product placement = less commercials

Anyone else notice the striking similarities between Eko and Lock removing the large boulder in front of the "tomb" (plane) only to find the body inside was missing, aka the resurrection of Christ?

Can someone tell me what was being said on those signs in that video? I had to get up at exactly that moment and didn't catch it...

Oh, and which hatch was on the screen in the Pearl?

Oh, and I'm beyond sad about Eko, my favorite character... :(

So lets run this down. I think were al a bit sad about Eko, he was a good man and did what he had too.

Eko gets called to the plane by having another vision of his brother. As we learn, were TOLD that these abiritions are not who we think they are "you talk to me like im your brother" Its starting to fall into place.

Dharma evacuated after an expierment they were running got out of control. That expirment may have been the smoke. It a machine designed to use maybe some type of telepathic wavelink to connect to the subject and judge social behavour. Somehow all connected to the properties inherent in the island. It tests you and then if found to be weak disposes of you. Eko lost his strength in battling his demons. IE the cost of living.

But we learned alot. I think this smoke machine was the incident that forced Dharma to shut down. Its running on auto pilot now.

The visions everyone has, locke of boone, jack of his dad, etc are part of the social testing the machines performs. It tests your will, determines good and bad.

Tonight in the pearl we learned that were not alone.. Bens others are not the only others on the island.

We also are confirming that bens others are not part of dharma or hanso. They too are on their own, lost if you will. Since Ben appears to be high ranking, then why didnt he go get help for his tumor? He cant. Just like he can control the food shipments, the smoke, cant get medical equipment, the other others, nor can they leave at will. Its at least the mid 2000's. We know that the losties crashed in 2004. Then why are they using VCR tapes? By the year 2000 we all had lap tops, dvd players, flat screens and ipods. Bens others have 20 year old technology left over from dharma.

Why are ben's others here on the island? What are they trying to protect or fix or are they just lost?

Eyepatch man must be the hostiles that kelvin refered too. Could they be infected with the virus? How does the virus link to smoke monster?

I need to think.

i think its apparent that the monster can take the form of people from the past. remember in season 1 that jack opened his dad's coffin and his dad wasn't in there? same thing this ep, where yemi was gone. it seems like the monster takes dead bodies and can then physically manifest them or something along the lines. anyways, i thought this episode was a step below further instructions, and was the worst ep of the season so far. nikki and paolo are still very annoying, and i felt that eko's death was anticlimactic... i was disappointed. oh well.

At least Hurley didn't die, I mean "dude". Ecko was a cool dude, I was a little depressed, but at least it wasn't some one whom was more important.

I thought this was a great episode but I was at an art class and didn't get back until 15 minutes into the episode, could someone possibly alert me as to what I may have missed?

I KNOW Juliette and Jack are about to get it on.

She definitely has the hots for him and I forsee her helping the LOST-ies escape.

I also have a gut feeling that the killing of Ben won't go very smoothly...

just a guess :)

and what do you guys think of the division of the season like this?

My biggest question is - why at the end of tonight's epi- when they were showing scenes for next week, did they use the term "Fall Season Finale". Is there some long break that Lost is going on for the intro of ABC's new show "Daybreak"? Man- that pisses me off!!! They know how loyal we are- so they are using that loyalty to get us hooked on another show (although looking at Taye Diggs for an hour won't be at all hard on the eyes!!)
Smart, but really lousy on ABC's part! When will Lost return?

Like a poof of Smoke he is gone!
My wife said that the same thing is probably telling Locke to go Save the buddies.
Echo told them "your next"
Uh thats my cue to RUN!
I am betting that Locke beats the monster with Sayids help.
Watch out Monster you got the wrong losties

Man. What a bummer. This episode sucked to me....or is it I just don't get it. Why did they kill Ecko off?? I feel like there was so much more to him. All the biblical stuff that was talked about and his stick. I thought he was going to hold the key to alot. I still don't understand the black cloud of smoke...Locke saw a beautiful white light?? They are all definately dead and in pregatory. They now have their chance to go to heaven or hell.

I don't even understand...if he wasn't talking to his brother, then who? The devil?

I really love Lost and I am not usually a bummer up here, but I just don't even see the point of that episode. Maybe it will fit together later...like 2 seasons from now when they show the black smoke again. If it was going to kill him, why didn't it just kill him the first time around??

I still don't trust Juliet *at all,* but that was very fun to watch, nonetheless.

I hate to see Eko go, but I highly doubt we've seen the last of his character. Why would they introduce the whole storyline of "I'm going to London" in his flashbacks if they didn't plan on elaborating on that in the future? I think we'll see more of Eko, just as we've continued to see Boone throughout the series.

More discussion of "freewill." They are really hammering that thought into our psyche's this season.

And, we got yet another use of the phrase: "Don't confuse conicidence with fate."

I too caught the parallel the writers drew with the moving of the stone. That's one of the most important moments in the entire Bible; it's possible that it could be just as important to the story of Lost.

I'm firmly planted among the group of theorists who think that the mystery man with the eye patch, shown to us in the monitor, is Radzinsky, Kelvin's old "friend."

One more episode...then we get to suffer through another 3 months. I wonder if they have another online Alternate Reality Game planned. 6 weeks seems like a very small amount of time to put something together that would be as interesting (yet in the end, still ultimately pretty disappointing) as the Rachel Blake/Alvar Hanso saga from the summer.

I still don’t trust Juliet *at all,* but that was very fun to watch, nonetheless.

I hate to see Eko go, but I highly doubt we’ve seen the last of his character. Why would they introduce the whole storyline of “I’m going to London” in his flashbacks if they didn’t plan on elaborating on that in the future? I think we’ll see more of Eko, just as we’ve continued to see Boone throughout the series.

Trina
Lost is taking a break until late January/early February. As far as I know, the return date hasn't been announced.

The reasoning behind this was that the majority of fans (myself included) were continually annoyed and upset last season when they would sit down to watch a new episode of Lost and instead they would get a rerun. This new setup guarantees that when Lost is on, it's new. 6 new episodes now, and 16/17 more starting in the winter, with no breaks and no weeks off. AKA, when Lost is on, it's new.

In the Bible, after the crucifixtion of Jesus, his body is placed inside a "cave" or a natural tomb, and an enormous boulder is rolled in front of its opening. Days later when disciples arrive to mourn at the tomb, they find the boulder rolled away and the body of Jesus gone.

Eko placed the large boulder/rocks in front of the opening of the plane after he burned it last season. When Locke and Eko returned in this episode and moved the boulder away, the body was gone.

Am I the only one who was bugged by the presence of that vapid blonde chick they let come to The Pearl with them?

One of the greatest things about this show is the character development. I just can't see how this "perfectly-tweezed n' busty while on a remote, sweaty island for 60 days" lady is going to provide anything interesting for the show. Unless she happens to be another plant from The Others!

I just don't like gratuitous additions of absurdly-hot and pointless women on shows like this. It ruins my suspension of disbelief.

And what's the story with her beaux, the guy who used the bathroom in The Pearl?

I'm totally bummed that Eko got killed, I really thought he would be more active in this coming season. I know we'll see him in flashbacks, but it just won't be the same. Maybe when it returns, this will just all have been a dream...it sure wouldn't surprise me with the way this storyline is going!!

Well, that was a bummer. I really liked Eko! Wasn't the expression about fate and coincidence reversed when John said it in this episode? Didn't Eko originally say do not confuse fate with coincidence? Did anyone notice that the smoke monster "waited" until noone else was watching to kill Eko? I believe most of what we saw was Eko's delirium, however, that smoke monster played a part in helping to provide what Eko alone saw. Eko was already in bad shape after the whole bear cave thing and had wrestled with his demons even when he was not close to death. I loved his strong willed nature. He felt he did what he had to do under the circumstances and was not sorry for it even if others were harmed....hmmmmm others, sounds a lot like their philosophy! And on the other side of the island...DON'T TRUST HER JACK! Interesting that Eko came to grips with his angst while dying unlike other Losties who seemed to die after they received closure. And I bet Juliet is not what she seems either. Maybe she needs Ben out of the way so that she can take over and run things her way. And why can't Ben leave the island to get the surgery? If he is going to take Jack home, why operate there? Is he afraid of losing control of the project? Is he a criminal in the real world? As always many more wonderful new questions!

No, Bernard (Rose's husband) seems to be alive, though we haven't seen them since last season. I'd also love to see what happened to Michael and Walt, and for Michael to get his for what he did. I have a hunch they will be part of the first episode in February.

I have to agree the 'introduction' of the two new characters was very very poor considering all the character development of everyone else. Almost seems like the producers lost a bet and had to add these two.

On another note, I did find it very odd that the woman said "Goodbye" like that to Jack at the funeral for the blonde woman. I suppose it could just be polite rather than just walking off. But "Goodbye" has a note of finality. Just seemed like odd dialog.

The French woman said the thing is the island's security/defense system. Killing Ecko defended the island how? Against sinners? Heretics? Imposters?

I've been following this blog for a while but it's my first time commenting. I thought last night's episode felt rather disconnected. There were no more Desmond prophecies; the dialogue was well below average of what's expected of Lost, and Eko's death was horribly anti-climactic. I was especially turned off by the dialogue that took place in the Pearl. When John and Eko discovered the Pearl station in the "?" episode, I remember John looking around at all the monitors and saying "this must be a monitoring station and these monitors must be for the other hatches," which made sense at the time because 1. they knew from the orientation film that there were more stations out there; and 2. they could see Jack and other Losties in the first hatch on one of the screens.
As per Ben's disease; I was surprised that there were no twists there, but I will completely write Jack off, if he is stupid enough to fall for Juliet's tricks. Ben pretty much confessed to developing a whole strategy to get Jack to want to operate on him, but Juliet deliberately showed Ben's x-rays to Jack and ruined the whole plan. Juliet had been trying to gain Jack's confidence from day 1 and certainly tried to allure him into liking her. If a bunch of them are so desperate to get rid of Ben (like she says in her note cards), then why was she the only one on tape? I am beginning to think that Ben is a good guy... I also was unsatisfied by Juliet's fake speech to Jack, when she mentioned free will, etc. I really don't like it when they poke us in the eye with overarching themes. We all know that free will, determinism are constant themes in the show, was it really necessary to insert a speech in there that stripped them off their subtelities?
I cringe every time I see the newbies. It feels so artificial and ruins the flow of the show for me.
I am sorry to keep pointing out the negatives. Lost is the only show I watch on TV and it hurts me every time they deliver a mediocre episode. Just to end things on a positive note: the only dialogue I enjoyed watching last night occured when Ben asked Jack whether he believed in god. What better answer to give than that? Right? right.

Juliet had been trying to gain Jack’s confidence from day 1 and certainly tried to allure him into liking her. If a bunch of them are so desperate to get rid of Ben (like she says in her note cards), then why was she the only one on tape? I am beginning to think that Ben is a good guy… I also was unsatisfied by Juliet’s fake speech to Jack, when she mentioned free will, etc. I really don’t like it when they poke us in the eye with overarching themes.
Right? right.

I don't think she purposely showed Jack the xrays, but with the Others everything, even Ben's admission to Jack of their plan to break him, could be a deception.

They can't have Desmond issuing prophecies all the time! ;-)

I enjoyed seeing more from Eko's past, but it was sad to see him go. Adewale did a great job portraying Mr.Eko. I like that they're still killing characters though since it makes the show more interesting.

I'm pretty sure we all can agree that the smoke monster is creating the visions of dead people on the island, the question is why it is doing it? It seems like the smoke monster is either a living creature or a very advanced form of artificial intelligence considering that when it appeared as Yemi, it referred to itself as "me".

When Yemi/the monster said "You speak to me as if I were your brother" his tone was very condescending. The first thing I thought of was that Eko was speaking to the devil or god.

Regarding Nikki and Paulo is still strongly dislike them. Hopefully they are there for a reason, otherwise I wouldn't mind if the writers removed them as swiftly as they where introduced.

I still really like scenes with The Others so my favorite part of this episode was when Juliet secretly asked Jack to kill Ben. I really want to believe that Juliet is a good person, but since I believed Henry/Ben for a while in season 2, I bet both Juliet and Henry are highly manipulative. The question here is if Juliet is trying to manipulate Jack out of her own interests or if this too is a plan constructed to make Jack do what Ben wants. Remember that Ben told Sawyer that he was a good con man but that they were a whole lot better.

I liked the ep last night, even tho it did have a few weak moments (like the blonde pointing out that the monitors would allow viewing of the other stations--well, duh!). Here's what I think:

--Don't trust Juliette as far as I can spit. She seems to have her own agenda and plans to use Jack to off Ben.

--To me, the black smoke can take many shapes and sizes. It could have been Kate's black horse, Hugo's friend Dave, Sawyer's boar that kept ransackin his tent, etc. I think it can read your mind and know what you're afraid of, or need/want to believe, etc. (If it was Kate's black horse, which Sawyer also saw, then it gave Kate a sense of closure in that ep.) It took the form of Yemmi, Echo's brother. The black smoke has seen Echo several times and each time it backed off. It didn't mess with Echo until he said he wasn't sorry for having lived his life the way he had--he wasn't given a choice; he did what he did to survive. Did the black smoke see that as a sign that it would never be able to control Echo, so therefore it killed him in anger?

--I love Locke. That grin he had on his face after they saw "Patch" on the screen! He just loves having another mystery to solve. And now he's got the "we're next" whisper from Echo.

--I don't think Ben can leave the island to get surgery. They can get stuff (news, DVDs, food, etc.) to the island, but nobody can leave (any sane person would not want to have spinal surgery in a place that isn't too clean and where they don't even have working equipment or a crash cart!

--I don't think there are two different groups "the hostiles" and "the others." I think it is just the Others, and they've got the kids from the Tail part of the plane. We've never seen Ms. Claus (Bea) again; she was the one who was in charge of Walt (asking Michael questions, etc.)

Can't wait for next week's show. Afterwards, I'll be replaying those six eps, over and over again on my VCR. It will be one very long winter! Ooop, Aaack!

It's important to remember that in season 1 shortly after crashing on the island Jack saw his father several times. And his father's body wasn't in the casket. If the smoke thing is taking on the appearence of dead people from their past, why Jack's father?

ps- Was it the smoke thing that somehow made his father's voice come over the intercom in the cell where Jack is being held??

I think I might have <a href="http://www.lostblog.net/lost/tv/show/will-mreko-die-now" rel="nofollow">predicted Eko's death</a>! Does this make me a precog like Desmond?

To be serious I really don't think Eko was killed because of his traffic case. However it is interesting that all tailies but Bernard are dead. Does this mean that new characters who are introduced to the group of losties are bound to die and in the end only the original cast (except Boone and Shannon) will remain?

Correct me if my memory fails on this:

Seems to me the only time we have seen the smoke thing is when Ecko has seen it. First he saw it with Jack and company as they were going with the French woman to the Black Rock. Now we saw it as it kills Ecko. Otherwise it's just be a brief shadow or fast passing blurr. Meanwhile, Locke said he saw "it" as a bright light.

Could it be something that reflects the background of people? Locke seems to be a good guy, pure, not a killer, and definately a man of faith. While Ecko was a killer (even if that was the only way to survive).

If this is so that seems to imply a religious overtone to the island and events.

Okay, we've been thrust back into theories of faith. The smoke is back, but it hasn't given us more of a clue as to what it is. We can assume (if we are so inclined) that it is "death" because it has claimed the life of an unrepetent(sp?) man. Was this the thing that killed the pilot? Now we know how large it can be because it slammed Eko into a very high tree and pounded him much like the pilot.

We have the Jesus analogy and Ben saying a spinal surgeon fell from the sky two days after learning he had a tumor and he thinks God sent Jack.

Juliet said Ben lies. The French woman, when Ben was caught in the net, said he lies. Juliet may have ambitions of taking over and wants Ben out of the way, or they're conspiring together and playing out the better con.

I think Locke said he saw a bright light because he wanted to see if Eko saw the same thing as he did. Locke doesn't always tell the truth either, so I'm doubtful that Eko told Locke "you're next" before he died.

I think the black smoke, whether it's an experiment gone bad or an island phenomena, manifests itself into whatever is on the mind of it's victim and uses it to protect the island from what it perceives as dangerous or invasive.

I loved the church reference recall last night, tho. When Yemmi said "you owe me a church" and in a prior episode you saw Eko's obsession with building a church, but at the time had no clue why. That's the stuff that makes Lost GREAT!

I, too, am heartbroken to lose Mr. Eko, but I found it comforting to hear that the actor wanted to leave the show. That means the writers HAD to write him off, and it wasn't just a crazy plot twist for the sake of a crazy plot twist.

I love--LOVE!--the exchanges among Ben, Jack, and Juliet. I really don't know who to trust. I do think there are some similarities here to "The Long Con." Both Ben and Juliet are sort of confessing their previous deceptions, trying to convince Jack that NOW they are being honest. To what end? Does Juliet really want to get rid of Ben? Does Ben even really HAVE a tumor? Are they doing all of this just to test Jack's morality as a doctor and as a person?

The smoke monster remains the ONE mystery on Lost that truly confounds me. Everything else seems to classify as science or faith, but I can't get my mind around this one.

I agree that the new characters S-U-C-K. Maybe Nikki the bimbo will be the smoke monster's next victim, and that will give Paulo a chance to be grief-stricken or angry or vengeful or ANYTHING AT ALL INTERESTING.

I agree the smoke monster is a bit much. And the new characters are pretty boring. Maybe we haven't given them a chance yet. I also think Juliet is telling the truth. I don't know why I like her, maybe sinece she's been so mice to Jack. I'm also mad that next week will bring a "season ender", that's a load of crap. There better be more answer "next season"!

Yes I have to agree with several, I do not like how the new characters have been introduced. AND the scence in the hatch was really ackward. Why did we have to hear someone repeat the function of the observation hatch? !
I never saw it coming that Ekko was to be killed. I really wanted him to survive the black smoke. Mr. Ekko is a great character (unlike Charlie).
Speaking of the black smoke. It occured to me that MAYBE the smoke is being controlled from one of the other Hatches (via eyepatch guy). But I can't imagine how. I like the idea that maybe the smoke manifests itself into different hallucinations but I still would like to know what it really is. One more thing, Ben says to Jack that Juliette looks like Jacks wife Sarah on purpose (that purpose being to get Jack to fall for Juliette). I don't think she does except for the blonde hair, but that could just be me.

I liked the ep last night, even tho it did have a few weak moments (like the blonde pointing out that the monitors would allow viewing of the other stations–well, duh!). Here’s what I think:

–Don’t trust Juliette as far as I can spit. She seems to have her own agenda and plans to use Jack to off Ben.

–To me, the black smoke can take many shapes and sizes. It could have been Kate’s black horse, Hugo’s friend Dave, Sawyer’s boar that kept ransackin his tent, etc. I think it can read your mind and know what you’re afraid of, or need/want to believe, etc. (If it was Kate’s black horse, which Sawyer also saw, then it gave Kate a sense of closure in that ep.) It took the form of Yemmi, Echo’s brother. The black smoke has seen Echo several times and each time it backed off. It didn’t mess with Echo until he said he wasn’t sorry for having lived his life the way he had–he wasn’t given a choice; he did what he did to survive. Did the black smoke see that as a sign that it would never be able to control Echo, so therefore it killed him in anger?

–I love Locke. That grin he had on his face after they saw “Patch” on the screen! He just loves having another mystery to solve. And now he’s got the “we’re next” whisper from Echo.

–I don’t think Ben can leave the island to get surgery. They can get stuff (news, DVDs, food, etc.) to the island, but nobody can leave (any sane person would not want to have spinal surgery in a place that isn’t too clean and where they don’t even have working equipment or a crash cart!

–I don’t think there are two different groups “the hostiles” and “the others.” I think it is just the Others, and they’ve got the kids from the Tail part of the plane. We’ve never seen Ms. Claus (Bea) again; she was the one who was in charge of Walt (asking Michael questions, etc.)

Can’t wait for next week’s show. Afterwards, I’ll be replaying those six eps, over and over again on my VCR. It will be one very long winter! Ooop, Aaack!

I have followed the blog for some time without commenting. So here are a few comments:
1. I think that last night’s episode was the best of the season (to-date). Having said that, the producers should be aware that they must soon start revealing significant truths or they will lose viewers (my family is incredibly annoyed about the seemingly random new plot twists without closure of any of the open plot lines).
2. I also agree with the posts about the two newcomers - whom we are supposed to agree have been there all along: talk about suspending disbelief!
3. Last night, my epiphany was that they beat us over the head with “free will” more than ever before and that the “island” via the smoke monster is part of a judgement process between good and evil. On this island everyone is defined and their future determined by the choices they make. Consider:
4. Echo is asked to confess (repent?) but he refuses to do so and is immediately killed. Who did he confess to? The smoke monster? God, the devil, some surrogate in between? In any event he refuses to apologize for his life, found wanting and dispatched. Are all the losties being individually judged on their actions on the island?
5. Also, no one has commented on possibly the most interesting aspect of last night’s episode: Ben wanted to “convert” Jack to do the surgery because he “wanted to do the surgery.” Why? Free will again. They could force Jack to do the surgery but it was important that Jack want t odo the surgery. Ben’s spinal tumor must be taken out by Jack because he wants Ben to live. If you think along these lines then Julliettes video tape is just a ruse. Consider, Ben needs surgery but it is only useful if Jack wants (chooses) to do the surgery correctly to make Ben live: Ben admits his scheme failed – although he doesn’t explain why Jack has to choose to do so. SO instead they quickly cobble together plan B where Julietter makes it appear as if there is a mutiny against Ben. There isn’t but she needs to give Jack options so he can-again-make the conscious choice to save Ben of his own free will: Now it is up to Jack to decide what he wants to do which is where they were going in the first place.
6. Finally, anybody else think the funeral costumes were bizarre? Either leftover hippies or something more?
To be serious I really don't think Eko was killed because of his traffic case. However it is interesting that all tailies but Bernard are dead. Does this mean that new characters who are introduced to the group of losties are bound to die and in the end only the original cast (except Boone and Shannon) will remain?
Please let's hope it's true for the newbie couple. Could they be any more annoying? I actually can't see how such annoying and disruptive (we all seem to hate them) new characters could be introduced w/o a plan to kill them off. Hopefully they are just cannon fodder for next week's episode. Then by the spring season, we will have forgotten all about them. Or smile fondly as we recall their deaths. How annoying!!!

A bit of trivia for you - A man in Eko's flashback was called "Emeka". Mr.Eko was originally supposed to be named Emeka.

Jay I agree with your thoughts on Jack and free will. Juliet probably asks Jack to kill Ben to manipulate him into believing it is his own decision to save Ben's life.

What was the significance of the song played over the speaker during the funeral? Why did ben direct jacks attention to juliets similarity to his exwife. Is he implying that the others could somehow plan or manipulate her appearance to suit their needs? Why not try all the tv leads instead of stopping after the one eyed man? How could he tell that they had connected their tv set to his camera? Unless he was watching them on his set and realized that they were about to turn the tables on him. Why are they not exploring the hatches and island more? They have weapons......maybe there is resort on the other side of the island??? Who knows. Why aren't they militarizing to fight the others who have already proven themselves hostile by taking the kids and killing losties??? They can be setting traps, making boobytraps and making hand weapons. spears, clubs blow guns....whatever. Looking for cameras and power lines on the island could lead them to all sorts of stuff.

Remember in the original Star Trek with Captain Kirk where they would always beam down to an alien planet with all the regular cast and ONE cadet who was always destined to die? Everyone had their blue uniforms on except the one cadet in red who always gets eaten by some blob. Maybe this is the destiny of the two new characters. Introduced in a rush to fulfill the need of a tragic event down the road.
Though they annoy me (personality-wise), I firmly believe their sudden appearance is <i>mandatory</i>. We all know the survivors of the crash were many yet the show continues to focus on a dozen people. It started to look a bit fake. We never even see a group of social outcasts in the background ever, just the main characters. It's time they emphasized the fact that there are *many* survivors, not just our heroes.

Eko's death does not surprise me. He was in such bad shape in the last couple of episodes, I psyched myself into accept the fact that he might die.

Food for thought: Noone interviewed Sayid about what happened or where the boat is. We did not see Jin and Sun. We have to assume their long journey from the rear of the island was safe since he seemed okay.

Some observations about the Smoke Monster:
- It sounds mechanical when "flying"
- It growls when confronting
- It is not smoke (gaseous) since it can grab people

Other "monster" observations:
- In the first season, it killed the pilot? (cockpit was too high in the air to be eaten by a bear)
- There was some eerie shreeking sounds in the jungle in season 1 and sounds resembling giant footsteps. Not seen in a while?

When Locke came face-to-face with the Smoke monster in Season 2, he thought it was beautiful and that he looked into the eye of the island. His life was spared. Last night, he referred to that incident as "bright light". Yet, we only know of the smoke monster as being evil. Why is Locke getting the special treatment and why didn't Eko question Locke about this bright light?

I have to keep writing these lists of observations so that I don't forget about unsolved mysteries from the past, because, just like everyone else, I want answers!
Juliet probably asks Jack to kill Ben to manipulate him into believing it is his own decision to save Ben's life.
But he hates Ben. This is his opportunity to:

- kill the ring leader he hates
- possibly score (we all have needs about 70+ days)
- be seen as a hero among those who wanted change
- possibly rescue his friends

I don't see why he would be presented with the opportuntiy to gracefully kill Ben and get away with it and actually save the guy's life. While doing this, he would be damaging his friendship with Juliette after that delicious burger she made.

Trina
The split the season in to 2 mini seasons in order to not continually interrupt the show like they did last season with the three week spots of reruns. Daybreak is just a new show they are rolling out and it makes sense to air that while lost is on hiatus.

Whether Juliette is lying or Ben is, they're both giving half-truths, like the statement by Ben: "we're not killers". Yet last week's ep he told his compadre at the monitors, Collette's husband could kill Sawyer later.

Also, could the two 'new' characters be Others? blended in gradually so no one over the 65 days really can't say they're not from the crash?

And lastly for now, why the hell doesn't the black smoke kick Ben's ass?
I did find it very odd that the woman said "Goodbye" like that to Jack at the funeral for the blonde woman. I suppose it could just be polite rather than just walking off. But "Goodbye" has a note of finality. Just seemed like odd dialog.

I noted this exact same point last night. I expected some sort of closure. Apparently it was just a "goodbye Jack, I'll see you in a couple of hours"

They have weapons......maybe there is resort on the other side of the island??? Who knows. Why aren't they militarizing to fight the others who have already proven themselves hostile by taking the kids and killing losties??? Because after they saw ole one eye..... the smoke monster started beating the crap out of Eko. They ran out of the hatch to check on him.
Also, as for the new losties... I dont care for Nikki but you can't say that you didnt laugh or atleast chuckle when Paulo came out of the bathroom like it was no big deal and when looked at oddly by the other losties says 'toilet works'. That was classic.

I don't think they are others because when Hurley did the check list in season one, he accounted for everyone but the spy. They would have noticed new others.

Why can't everyone just accept them as being losties. Why would the Others invest two of their people to spy on the Losties anyway, they already gathered the intelligence they needed.

And the toilet comment was refering to the toilet still working despite the station being uninhabited or abandonned for so long.

I think one of the most important revelations from the last few episodes is that the others aren't connected to the outside world as much as they claim to be, and that there is a whole lot more weirdness/cultishness there than we have seen yet. If they were connected to the outside, and not just somehow poaching info from somewhere (maybe they have a download-only system with their fabulous high-tech computers that are the size of a volvo and still use magnetic take), they would have a crash cart that worked and the ability to call for a medevac for someone with a fatal spinal tumor.

and that funeral and all the oldies music playing all the time -- what's with the white pajamas, the viking-style funeral, the ceremony?

My theory, and this ties in with what many people here have already posted, is as follows:

The plane crashed and everyone died. They are LOST between heaven and hell and the island is a test for each to determine his/her own fates through their "free will". the "others", "dharma", the "smoke" all exist to test diffenent characters.

The smoke was for eko who was a "bad man" in life but was given a chance to redeem himself when he spoke to God (as his brother) but chose not to and was taken from the island by the dark smoke. This is also why locke saw a bright light and not darkness--becuase he has been a helper and enabler for others, as evidenced by both him picking up the hitchiker in his flashback, and by his rescuing eko from the bear.

The fact the Losties are already dead explains why locke and desmond and eko did not die when the hatch exploded.

The flashback sequences also fit into this theory in that they explain the history of these characters for us to better understand what descisions they will make and weather they will go to heaven or hell.

Also, fitting into this theory is the idea that Sawyer and Kate are locked in those cages because they were criminals in life, yet will still have a chance to redeem themselves and go to heaven.

Also, potentially, is the fact that the "others" want the kids because kids are not yet capable of making the decisions neccessary for determining thier fate and the "others" will help them along to heaven.

I am still struggling with the last scene from season 2 and the eloctromagnetic signal and how that fits in with desmond and his girl. But becuase desmond was not on the plane, he too may be part of the general test that the island presents for the Losties.

I still find it odd that smokey backed off when other people were around. When Eko was killed no one saw it happen. That means it is possible that what we saw was Eko's perception of how he was killed. When the pilot was killed no one saw it happen. It does not seem to want to kill in front of others. When there is more than one person around it appears to be more cautious....I love a good mystery!

I think the bright light Locke was referring to was the light that lit up the hatch when he was looking down it.

And now my thoughts on last night's episode:

I thought it stunk. I just watched it again online and it still stinks. It started when Juliette said to Jack at the funeral: 'He let you out?' No, Einstein, I'm a figment of your imagination. Talk about a dumb question! Then Locke's inviting anyone and everyone to come to the Pearl? Has he not been the one keeping secrets all along? I guess he had to invite everyone though so that Nikki and Paulo had some airtime. I really do not like them. I agree that they seem real out of place in the storyline. I want them to leave! And speaking of Nikki: she suddenly figures out that the tape mentions 'projectS' and hey, let's turn on the other monitors! DUH! As if Locke and/or Sayid couldn't have thought of that one. Terrible scene. I don't believe Juliette for a minute. I think this is Plan B to 'invest' Jack. I'm not even convinced Ben has a tumor. Really. If the only goal was to have Jack operate on him, I kind of think that they could have just walked up to him on the island and asked. I bet he would have said yes. They've just done too much bad for that to be all there is to it. I don't believe any of it. I am also sad that Eko is gone, but if this is about heaven and hell, I'd say he went to heaven. Reunited with his brother as they were as happy children...yep, that's gotta be heaven.

I know it's a negative post. Sorry. I just feel so let down this season. But of course I'll keep watching because I'm so hooked!! My favorite scenes last night were Ben asking Jack about God; Juliette's simultaneous speech and video; and Eko's 'un'confession to Yemi/Smoke Monster.

That has been my theory as well, and I think it makes perfect sense (I like how you put it, especially about the children) but didn't the writers and/or creators say a long time ago that wasn't it?

I do not trust Juliette or Ben. Ben knows that Jack is a smart guy, and they wouldn't have been able to break him. He "came clean" about trying to break him bc he wanted too. He never planned to break him, just make him think he wanted to. In the same regard Ben can't let Jack operate unless he knows Jack won't screw up. Regardless of Juliette's comments, Jack would still be in a position to kill Ben on the operating table.
I do not think they are in purgatory, just bc that has been thrown out there since day one, itd be too easy. At the same time, they need to revisit Walts "powers" and they never judged Michael for his actions. He did what he had to do just like Eko, granted he said he was sorry, but regardless he never apologized to the black smoke.
Alot is happening and they need to give us some concrete answers. We already knew about other hatches, so the blonde added nothing with her comments.

Maybe Ben can't leave the island to go get his surgery because of the fact that he is infected with the virus. And those that drop the food will not allow them off the island or have direct contact with them for that fact although they will still provide food/etc for them since they feel some sense of responsibility toward them after the virus "expiriment" was abandoned.

I think Jack will do the surgery on Ben because it is in his nature, he saves people. He may seriously toy with the idea of killing Ben, but I think last minute he won't be able to do so.

"did what I had to do" seems like another recurring line. Michael said it in so many words, Eko, I predict Kate will too. Seems that the "killer" Losties killed out of necessity rather than criminal (not sure about Sawyer yet).
