Even though I thoroughly enjoyed the episode, I hope folks can relax a little bit with over-analyzing it, because there are definitely some plot holes. Stuff happened quite fast with Penny and Des. She changed her number the same day she asked him to stop calling. She moved to a different address, the address she moved to happened to be walking distance from the Auction, which happened to be close to Daniel Farraday’s office. Mr. Widmore happened to be at the auction, and despite his apparent dislike for Dez, gives his daughter’s address to him.

But, I can buy the keeping the number bit, just for entertainment purposes.

What room is the LAA meeting in? I am lost!

Clearly the best episode in years. I was floored and I’m a guy and I even had tears when Dez made contact with Penny. Beautiful. What an episode!

Michael might be on the boat, it seems if you are on 305 you get the side effect…eventually. The guy who died in Dez’s arms had a buddy who died much quicker.

The people on the boat didn’t seem to know where they were at either. The guy said they knew they were in the Pacific and about the last port being Fiji. Then the guy that dies said that they just wanted to “see” the island.

I wonder if its like middle earth or something. I mean Time travel is a little far fetched so why can’t it be Middle Earth?

You’re right, they don’t know where they are. Last season said something like “Island? We were given coordinates in the middle of the bloody ocean” I’d imagine some crew members know more than others.

Shane “Some where in time” was a great example…and very relevant to this epi..

I believe the writers know exactly what they are doing and it is all planned out. They bring us amazing episodes week after week!

New to blog: AMAZING revelation!!!! Years ago my wife and I saw this old movie “Somewhere in Time” In it, a guy travels through time through hypnosis. Essentially he travels to 1912 by convincing himself it is 1912. The professer he consults before his little journey says his clothes/etc. everything must be 1912 or earlier. He falls in love with a woman from the past but accidentally is brought back by a modern “penny” is in his pocket. This reference to modern times ruins his link. A “penny” brought him back! No way it is a coincidence. They love to pay omage to sci fi flicks…but this also proves they planned this plot sequence from the start! The movie was from around 1980 and had C. Reeves and J. Seymour I think. Anyone else remember this?

It wouldn’t surprise me if Michael is on the boat. I thought the reason Des had his “experiences” was because the copter veered slightly off course during the storm. Remember how emphatic (to use the description from the pop-up in tonight’s “Eggtown”) Daniel was in telling Frank to absolutely stay on course?

I do wonder what determines how a person reacts to it? Sayid and Frank were unaffected, but Desmond was affected, because of the electromagnetism. But why was Brandon affected more severely than Minkowski?

Well it seem the Orchid video was hinting that DHARMA had Daniel’s device, but it duplicated the rabbit instead of just the rabbit’s conscience.

That commincations tower on the boat was pretty messed up, and how does penelope have the same phone number for 8 years, and if she did then how she gonna give him the real number after that crazy story….This show is not making any sense now or maybe it was just this episode… if i was in charge i would blow up the whole island and be done for it…Obama for president 08….

Yeah, the communications center stuff was a bit far-fetched. Desmond said, “Can you fix it”, and Sayid said, “I’ll need a minute”. The thing was in a million pieces, torn wires everywhere……

Same number for 8 years….I’ve had the same one for 11 years, my parents have had the same one for 40 years….

Maybe I’m crazy, but when we see Sayid on the freighter alone (16 minutes in) the camera scans toward the top of the ship…and it looks like an African American man with a goatee looking through binoculars….could this be Michael?

I have a 61″ DLP and HD with DVR… I just went back and it sure looks like Michael with a cap and a goatee. Good Eye.

A few weeks ago someone brought up the concept of “vile vortices”, and said that is may be related to the mysteries of Lost. I don’t fully understand it, but I remember that one vile vortex is near Madagascar, which I think is where they said the journal was found.

I think Brandon and Minkowski got it because they probably did not go exactly on the heading. I think the Freightor knew how to get close to it, but they don’t know the exact heading to go in on, without the side effects (and have probably tried b4 w/o success). I don’t think Daniel’s coordinates (305?) are as correct as the 325, which probably does not produce any side effects, (but he believes it is, or has slightly miscalculated but can accept the difference) or they are minimal. If they knew the exact way to get in, it would seem they would just go right in, but they don’t so they sent the 4 in first to see if there would be any effects.

I agree with whoever originally posted in thinking that Widmore is the person after Ben.

Time travel kinda opens the door up to a lot of possiblities, I hope they give a nice explanation soon to tighten up the storyline.

Just a guess, but now that Dez has found his constant, he may be able to better understand how to use his visions. He’s still vital to the story IMO.

I don’t know much about heading either, but I play like I do on this site…lol. I would imagine that since the helicopter can fly, it doesn’t matter where it takes off from. Don’t quote me.

I’ve had the same CELL phone number for 8 years- it’s not too much of a stretch to keep the same house number.
And we don’t know how much time was going by in between Desmond going to the auction hall & Penny’s so it seemed pretty realistic to me. What was he talking about with the whole exponential thing? Smarty posters- care to help a non science girl out?

Did anybody else catch the whole Hanso mention as the previous Black Rock Journal owner? Reinforces the whole Hanso vs. Widmore theory.

Why would they ignore Penny’s calls if it was her father’s boat? It’s either A. not his boat or B. an order he gave them to keep Penny from Des (though honestly how can a father hate his daughter’s boyfriend THAT much? I know he didn’t like desmond but that seems a little out of control to me?)

For likely the same reason Sayid is a hitman for Ben…he’s got something on him.

And I think Desmond being the only one affected by the island mind-blower thing had something to do with him being in the Hatch and/or the explosion. Faraday asked him if he had been exposed to radiation or electro magnetic something or other & he was definitely involved in something of the sort with the whole button pushing and eventual blowing up of the Hatch.

thee heading is 325. frank flew 305, as scribed by daniel on the note. at the very end when Des was freaking out, frank took a descending right turn (correcting back to 325?) and des got better.

more numbers = des to past daniel freq = 2.342 on 11 hertz. 11 doesnt register but 2.342 is our famous 23 & 42. how about penny’s future london phone number? no bells rung there.

minkowski (NOT DEAD) is faking the time travel bit and pushing des’s buttons. he knows and copies daniel’s time “fits’ to get des to reveal what des knows. Des & Daniel are like the lab rat that brain-farted - expendable.

Best episode in years. Everyone that follows LOST will have to reflect on this episode - it is the portal from the first half of the series to the second half.

Only one thing I did not like - the skunky POS freighter - I was expecting a modern, state-of-the-art, hi-tech, almost carrier like freighter. What we got was a junky, trash-hauling relic of a freighter with Tunisian registry.

My uncle has been making fun of me because of how I lock down the house when Lost is on (no talking, no lights, no walking in my peripheral vision and seriously NO TALKING) but he hasn’t ever seen the show & always misses it because he works a night job. So tonight even though he was running late, he caught the very beginning and COULD NOT stop watching the TV to leave haha! I’m going to have to leave the ABC episode site up on the computer tonight to help him on his way to LOST addiction…

The 325 bearing vs. the 305 bearing: It is true that the dock from which Ben sent Michael and the Huey takeoff site could be far enough apart to require that much difference in “headings” to arrive at the SAME destination. Of course the freighter may have moved since Michael shoved off also.

The time travel theory needs some serious explanation. Lots of us have believed the Island existed in some time-warp or was only reached by traveling thru some portal. More recently, I’ve discounted those theories in my own mind due to the live radio communications and was leaning more towards the electro-magnetic effects just “bending” time slightly.

Can anyone explain a reasonable theory now ?

Perhaps the freighter is ALSO “under the influence” or effected by a time-warp ?

By Naomi, you mean her body, right? (she died a couple episodes ago) That’s a good point – you’d think some of the ship’s crew would go to get her off the copter.

Perhaps one or both had cancer and received radiation treatments? Maybe that is why Ben wanted his tumor removed on island to avoid “mainland” hospital radiation?

Oh, and Omar, “Michael” is played by Harold Perrineau who was NOT fired (but allowed to film a movie) and in fact has been in the credits (though not yet on the show) since the first episode of this season.
