Lost’s latest addition, Rodrigo Santoro who plays the never before seen fuselage survivor Paulo, is a star in his native Brazil but may be quite unknown to most Lost fans.

To learn a bit more about the man they call “the Brazilian Tom Cruise” check out the article about Rodrigo in USAToday.

It has been just three days since Brazilian film superstar Rodrigo Santoro arrived in Hawaii from Rio de Janeiro to begin work as new castaway Paulo on ABC’s Lost (9 p.m. ET/PT). The day before, he visited the Lost production office for a wardrobe fitting and met Kiele Sanchez, the woman cast as his love interest, Nikki. He describes her as “sweet,” but adds that “her character is going to surprise a lot of people.”

What is most surprising about these two cast additions is how little they have appeared on-screen.

Santoro and Sanchez made their debut two weeks ago as never-before-seen crash survivors.

  1. Someone please get a hold of Rodrigo Santoros agent down in Brazil and perhaps mention that it might not be the best for his/her client to be labeled with the handle “the Brazilian Tom Cruise” ,thoughts?

  2. How dare he poop in the Pearl!

  3. Actually, we don’t know if he went #1 or #2 in the Pearl, MK, but that being said, no one scowled or waved the air when he came out, so I suppose we can theorize either that he went #1 or that his #2 don’t stink.

  4. I like the #1 theory better, he looks like a stinker if he went #2

  5. I see you guys are having a very interesting discussion…

  6. He may be famous in Brazil, but his acting has been crap so far. He looks like a total amatuer compared to some of the others on this show …

  7. I don’t blame him. Basically Lost just has an all-star cast. Anyone looks bad compared to the majority of them!

  8. sigh… he’s such a hottie… :D

  9. I’ve said this before,
His addition to the cast has to have something to do with the portuguese speaking guys at the end of season two.

  10. Hey everyone:
Rodrigo Santoro is actually quite an accomplished actor, and if you watch foreign films you will know and see this for yourself. I think it’s too early to judge his performance in Lost, after all, he’s only been given a few lines and his character is just starting to develop. Watch Abril Despedacado (English translation: Behind the Sun), Carandiru and O Bicho de Sete Cabecas (don’t know the official translation, but it means “the seven-headed beast”. The comparison to Tom Cruise is simply ridiculous because Rodrigo Santoro can actually act. I wish that he had been given a more substantial character on Lost, because judging from posts in several websites, to an English-speaking audience who doesn’t know his acting background, right now he really is just coming across as a Brazilian Tom Cruise.
