500 words is a little short for a good theory, don't you think?
I have one (more like 5000 words!) and I definitely want to be able to publish it wherever I please and hold on to the copyrights (if that's even relevant since the whole thing is based on ABC property.)
A theory contest is a great idea, but your rules for it demands a little more flexibility in my opinion.

grandmort, sorry, but we definitely wouldn't have taken a 5,000 word theory. :) I think good theories are condensable and can be made concise for the key points (college and graduate school application essays, for example, often limit to 500 words, which was tough for me, too, so I know the feeling!). As for publishing, that's really other people's choice if they want to participate, but Andreas is pretty unwavering on that point, I believe, because what we are looking for is original content for this blog. Sure, that will mean some good theories may not be eligeable w/o a little bit of editing/rewrite, but that is a tradeoff we must have for some originality. Keep in mind that we know that almost every sort of "big picture" theory/concept has come up at some point on some forum or another; but what we don't want is a word-for-word cut and paste/self-plagerization, that's all.

To clarify, the reason we need you to sign over copyright to us is to prevent anyone from suing us or asking for monetary compensation if the site should ever be sold. It's just a safety net we need to prevent the contest from coming back to haunt us in the future.

The reason for the word limit is that I and Cecilia will read all the theories and judge them. It would be impossible for us to read 200 theories with 5000 words each.

The reason behind not being able to let you publish the full theories in other forums is that Google and other search engines will detect the duplicate articles and penalize both The Lost Blog and the other site in its search engine rankings.

You do however compete for some very neat prizes, and I want to believe that The Lost Blog is a great place for people to read your theories.

If anyone else strongly dislikes the competition rules and has a better idea on how to solve these "problems", please let us know.

Lost episode 7 - Not in Portland
Brainwashing Scene with Karl strapped to the chair in Room 23.
Seperated with surround sound and played backwards you can hear a creepy woman saying "Only fools are enslaved by time and space"
