Didnt goodwin own a ww2 army knife?
Hi gtma leah--I am an old fan who reads this blog and seldom writes because everyone else is so smart; plus it takes me so long to read through everything. But this time I want to exclaim yes! That old knife has haunted me since it first appeared, and then we see WW II era soldiers on the show. Finally a connection. Thanks for pointing it out--I feel that the episode on 1/28 clarified this even more. See you on that strand.

Speaking of cutting off a hand... what about "Montand's arm?" Could these have been the same guys that did that?

: ) P
***********************************************8

Montand, Ray Mullen & Dr. Marvin Candle (swan video) All have lost an arm, hand.

This was taken from the 11/28/05 podcast:
“

Carlton Cuse: Is there any connection between the loss of Montand's arm, and the fact that Dr. Marvin Candle has a fake hand?

Damon Lindelof: Eh, I dunno, is there? We also found a glass eye in the Arrow Station. People just lose body parts I think easily on the Island.

Carlton Cuse: Exactly.

Damon Lindelof: It isn't a widely known fact that actually Marvin Candle has a fake hand. You actually have to watch the film a fair amount of times, so I think that's a good nugget of podcast exclusivity that you just downloaded there.

Carlton Cuse: Wow, that's cool. And would it be possible that in a future episode we would discover why Marvin Candle has a fake hand?

Damon Lindelof: I suppose anything's possible, I guess.

Thoughts????
Well see, I think this is one of those things that kind of proves Hammer's the-Others-are-Whisperers theory. Ethan is DEAD in "current island time" *CIT* (early January 2005). Charlie killed him a "few months ago" when he was after Claire. So Ethan does not exist in CIT. I believe Captain Eyeliner and the Others must not REALLY exist in CIT, or they would have moved WITH Locke. If they are NOT Whisperers, they are at least not of CIT for SOME reason.

My problem with what you just posted however is that Daniel and Desmond actually DID meet in 1996. That wasn't merely Desmond's conscious. That means that if we interpret "can't meet" as impossible to meet, that meeting in 1996 directly contradicts that theory because they had not met prior to 2003/4. It's circular.
You're right in that when Des and Dan meet in 1996 at Oxford, their bodies are physically in each others' presence. However, it's Dan's 1996 consciousness, and Des's 2004 consciousness. Desmond's 1996 consciousness has no idea that they met. So in the ensuing years, all the way up to the scene where Dan knocks on hatch door and Des answers it, Des still doesn't know who Dan is, and has no recollection of meeting him. So I don't think there's a contradiction with the "can't meet" rule.

Again, the "can't meet", to me, means there is only one sequence of events that has occurred throughout history, and that sequence did not include a time-travelling 2004 Sawyer meeting Desmond at the hatch in 2003.

So if in 2003 Desmond didn't meet Sawyer, there's nothing Sawyer can do to change that. 2004 Sawyer "can't meet" 2003 Desmond.

But with
