Lost News Update - More Lost this Season?!?
3 months, 2 weeks ago by WillRead more: ABC, Carlton Cuse, Damon Lindelof
Thankfully Season 4 resumes in two weeks - here is some info to keep you thinking until then:
*As many of you have noted in previous post commentary, there is current speculation that we may get an additional hour of programming this season, as reported by Michael Ausiello of TVGuide.com - but it has not yet been confirmed if that will take the shape of another episode, or the more likely scenario of a two-hour season finale.
• If the dream becomes a reality, how would it work? As it stands, Lost’s Season 4 climax is slated to air on May 22 on a season-finale-themed night that also includes the cappers of Ugly Betty and Grey’s Anatomy. So would the additional Lost hour be broadcast the following Thursday? Or would it perhaps run on another night?
• What does this do to the finale that was going to air on May 22? Would elements of it be incorporated into the new finale? Would this 14th hour come before that episode? And since we were originally supposed to get 16 eppies this season before the strike cut that number back to 13, does this mean we would now be getting a season finale that is more in line with what Darlton intended? Or more exposition that they ran out of time to include? The mind boggles.
I would prefer a two-hour finale vs. an additional episode that’s mashed into the mix somewhere - what do you think?
*Kristin Dos Santos of E! Online is also confirming this news, as noted in this post from yesterday afternoon:
It is looking “highly likely” (yay!) that there will be an additional hour of Lost for season four, for a total of six hours coming up in the spring run, starting April 24.
Producers pitched the idea of a two-hour finale to ABC, and if they end up getting an extra hour but it is not to extend the finale, well…that could be messy. The sense among insiders is that ABC execs very much want to make this happen, but like I said, they have not yet had a chance to respond. Fingers crossed they will soon and it’ll be the right (i.e. “yes”) decision!
She also referenced that ABC and the producers were at a point in the discussion where this was “much too early to report”…

I’m rather certain in a recent podcast darlton mentioned the season finale will be 2 hours like other season finales, although whether it would be broadcast in a 2 hour slot or two 1 hour slots was still being discussed because of a clash with the 2 hour finale of grays anatomy. They also said that this finale will be basically 2 episodes joined up just like every other 2 hour episode has been produced with the exception of the pilot.

My vote - I would like to see a separate single episode on May 29th. That would give us a whole extra week of “reflect & ponder” time AND narrow the gap between season 4 and 5. I know that, technically, a finale on 29 May would fall outside of the “May Sweeps” where the network converts its’ ratings to cash… but heck - we all know that we are going to watch anyway. In fact, moving the finale back a week may actually equate to better ratings because LOST won’t be competing with other “finales” - the competition will have gone back to reruns.

As I remember it, D&C said that we would have five episodes including the season finale that would be shown in two parts (two episodes) in order to allow Grey’s Anatomy to have their two hour season finale.
This fits with the original plan to air five episodes beginning April 24, with the last episode on May 22nd.
I don’t think the sixth hour was originally planned, though I do suspect that it will be an additional HOUR of the season finale rather than a stand alone episode.

So was it originally supposes to be i one hour finally?

If they get rid of the Eli Stone and Deperate Housewives promos for those 5 weeks, it should open up an hour of airtime.

Sort of.
They said it was a two hour finale, spread over two weeks, but alluded to the fact that it would count as two episodes. Which make sense since they said they would return April 24th with five new episodes (4/24, 5/1, 5/8, 5/15, and 5/22).

Okay, I went back and listened to the podcast where D&C discussed the season finale. My interpretation of what they said may well be wrong. I think I took IT together with the episode layout (4/24, 5/1, 5/8, 5/15, and 5/22) and possibly made assumptions. I will transcribe their words - so each of you can come to your own conclusion until we hear “the real news” from the horses’ mouths:
DAMON: … we’re peeling into the two-hour finale, which this year is going to air separate hours because Grey’s Anatomy, they get to, they get to do a two hour finale. So, we’ve got to break ours in half in order to stay on Thursday.
CARLTON: Right, but…
DAMON: … but we did that with the pilot so…
CARLTON: Well good.
I am not sure this makes ANYTHING more clear!

HA. No not really.
So if they give us an extra hour, what are we gonna get. Think they had something planned for this. Maybe some stuff off the cutting room floor. F/B or F/F of multiple charaters.

THE PROMISED KISS IS EVERYWHERE:
Finale Kiss will “complicate” the triangle
So..who: 1) Jack and Kate (sounds plausible and possible);
2) Jack and Juliet (mmm a continuation and probable);
3) Kate and Juliet (not likely)
4) Kate and Sawyer(been there)
5) Sawyer and Jack (never)
So, which triangle…???

BIG NEWS!
*THIS JUST IN*
According to tvguide . com, a 14th hour of Season 4 has been confirmed by ABC. I quote Michael Ausiello (LONG LIVE Michael Ausiello):
“I can now confirm what I first teased earlier this week: Team Darlton has sealed a deal with ABC to bring us an extra hour of Lost this season.
*snip*
With a 14th hour of Lost now a done deal, the show’s finale will swell to three hours. But, in what can only be described as an unorthodox scheduling move, the first hour of that finale will air on May 15, and then we have to wait two weeks — until May 29 — to get the last two hours! That’s right, no Lost on May 22.
Why?
Apparently, Darlton convinced ABC that the final two hours had to air together. And with the finales of Grey’s and Ugly Betty already slated for May 22 at 8 and 9 pm respectively, ABC really had no other choice than to sked Lost’s two-hour exit for May 29.
*snip*
“We are very excited and grateful to [ABC president] Steve McPherson for working out the scheduling difficulties to allow us to make the second part of our finale two hours,” says exec producer Carlton Cuse. “Damon and I were working on the script and we just couldn’t get it all done in one hour without shortchanging the story. Now the finale will have all the sweep and emotional completeness we wanted it to have — along with, of course, answering who’s in the coffin.”"
- - - - -
Oops, there’s the C word!
So we now get the sixth hour discussed above. Now the question is… we have been promised 48 episodes for seasons four through six. Does this “three hour finale” count as three episodes or just one very long one? I know I am being greedy, but if it counts as one very long one, then we are only getting twelve EPISODES (spanning fourteen hours). Can we look forward to still getting “back” the two missing episodes? I kind of doubt it, but one can hope!

Thanks for the info PJ. That is the best news I have heard all day! Wooohoooo!!!! I am getting very antsy for another episode. I think my LA sponsor needs a sponsor of her own now… LOL!!! I did get somewhat of a LOST fix with the LOST magazine last week though.
As for the “Kiss”, I agree that it could be Ben and Juliet, or maybe Ben and Claire? If Ben is involved, I will be grossed out no matter who he kisses, even if it is Vincent!

We know that Claire wants to talk to Miles. Now that Ben is out of the cage that might happen. Ben would now that Clair and Jack are related. Locke is not going to let Clair leave his camp. Ok. So I see Locke Trying to get on Jack side with the Juliet kissing Ben info. To counteract this Ben Gives Jack the “Clair is you sister and Locke wont let her leave” info. That takes Jacks mind off Juliet and onto Clair and Locke. I’m getting a bad feeling about Locke and he’s my favorite character. Clair might be the “C” Word.
Kate’s got to have something going on with Miles and Sawyer. They Might try to get on in the money that Miles is asking for. They Both no about it and they both make bad decisions when it comes to criminal behavior.

He some how is going to use that information to his advantage.
Bens New team is pretty bad ass. Locke, Michael/Kevin, Sayid, Miles. Now i know Miles shouldn’t be considered with Ben. But he wants something from Ben. And Ben can spin anything into his favor.
Oh, Ben puts jack in a situation Like….. Its either Juliet or Clair, by the way Claire is you sister! Choose. That sounds like something Ben does and does well.

That would be something if my hi-jacked helicopter theory happens. It might explain why Jack can’t be around Aaron…if he chose Juliet over Claire. (No, I don’t think Juliet is an O6, but if they escape on their own she can go back to her old life and not be part of the O6 lore. Same for Des.)

Like it. That will be horrible. Jack Choosing Juliet over Claire. Then he comes to find out that Juliet is working for Ben the Whole time. So the heart broken Jack leaves his newly found sister behind for a woman who used him to get off the island. Plus he jacked up his relationship with Kate over Juliet. His conscience is hating him. There would be no way he could look Aaron in the eyes.
Very plausible Juliet is off the Island & I would say Ben still has a bit of control over her. He said she could leave the island and she has. He didn’t agree to any thing else.

She is not to be trusted, IMO. She had an affair with a MARRIED man, considered a sacred covenant in some religions. She is about as trusting as Michael ( or is ).

My guess is Sun and Michael, probably off-island in the future. There is a moment in one of the 2-minute mobisodes where it seems as if Michael and Jin are about to kiss, and there were moments of slight flirtation in a couple regular episodes, too, not counting the moment where Michael first approached Sun on the beach about something and Jin ordered her to cover up more by buttoning her shirt up completely.
They’ve also made a point of saying how her baby looks like Jin. Maybe she was aware of the possibility of it looking like Michael as well? Definitely would stir up the pot a bit!

Though those characters seem predictable, imo, in order for the kiss to come off as spectacular, I would think we the viewers have to have a little something invested in the participants, either because we know something about the future or the moment had been building up. Unless the writers mean spectacularly shocking.
So I’m throwing my little endorsement to…Jin & Sun for no overwhelming reason.
Lol, um, Spin are you sure the mobisode had a moment of trepidation between Michael and JIN?
