Lost News Update - April 18th, 2008
3 months, 1 week ago by WillRead more: ABC, Carlton Cuse, Damon Lindelof, Lost Video, Rousseau
*Doc Arzt posted the audio from a press conference call with Lindelof and Cuse yesterday, and there is some really good information about what we can expect in the future:
-The title of the finale is “There’s No Place like Home”, part one on May 15th and part two on May 29th.
-They are planning an online prologue for Season 5, similar to ‘Find 815.’
-The story’s that were dropped because of the writer’s strike will be picked up in later season’s
-Season 5 should be launching in the last week of January
-They will not comment on the fate of Rousseau, but they can confirm that she was indeed shot with bullets
-The Orchid video will pay off in a major way by the end of Season 4
-The rattlesnake in the mail box (i.e. gamechanger in the season finale) is officially called “The Frozen Donkey Wheel” - according to Darlton this is going to be something that will absolutely make sense to all of us ;) The best allusion to this came from Lindelof during the call:
“There might come a time in the show where the word ‘flash’ becomes irrelevant,” Lindelof says. “If you stop and think about what we’ve done this year, there’s the story on the island which we perceive to be the present, then there’s the story of the Oceanic 6, which is happening off the island in the future.
“But if you were to switch perspectives and were off the island, focusing on the Oceanic 6 trying to get back, that would be the present, and what happened back on the island would be either a parallel present, a possible future a possible past, who knows. When you hear the ‘whoosh’ noise, the question becomes, Where does it take you?”
Wow - exciting things to come and it’s great to know that we will definitely be getting another ARG-like shot in the arm for the off season hiatus!
*The Extra Hour is Confirmed: Basically, we are going to get an hour on May 15th, and then two additional hours on May 29th - a 3 hour season finale that spans over two distinct episodes

So does this mean that alternative timelines could be in play?
Comment 2, posted 3 months, 1 week ago - Quote and reply
Since the Orchid video showed the rabbit being duplicated and up to this point, we were to believe that only the concious was traveling, can we assume that DHARMA was screwing up experiments and cause the rabbit’s past/present/future to somehow meet up at the same time?
Would this disrupt the perpective of when NOW is?
If so, Ben could be on and off the island at the same time. And so could the dead folks?
Comment 3, posted 3 months, 1 week ago - Quote and reply
I have a feeling a timeline of events is going to become our new best friend over these last few seasons/episodes.
Hope it doesn’t get too confusing…but I’m excited!!!
Comment 4, posted 3 months, 1 week ago - Quote and reply
I am scared that this is going to turn into a Marty McFly type situation where these people are running into themselves, causing the viewers massive confusion.

I don’t think so, I think the duplicate rabbit is more of a hint that someone’s past/present/future CAN intersect in time IF the “powers” are altered by “the bad guys”.

Hammer, you said it yourself that Ben could be on and off the Island at the same time. Also, if a Lostie (or whomever) could be on the island, and off of it as well, could one be good and one evil?
Comment 7, posted 3 months, 1 week ago - Quote and reply
deangoodes wrote:
Yes, but on and off the island at the same time doesn’t have them running into each other like in Back to the Future…was my point.
Good/evil is suppose, but I think we already have our good/evil characters. I think it would be more of a passing info to one’s self type of thing.
Comment 8, posted 3 months, 1 week ago - Quote and reply
BTW folks, don’t watch any commercials on ABC unless you want to know who shot Karl and Danielle…dead(ha-ha) give away.
Comment 9, posted 3 months, 1 week ago - Quote and reply
Hammer, so you are thinking that the reason there would be one person in two places at the same time would be because of the power of the island? I can see that, but let’s say that Ben can leave the island as well as being on the island at the same time, what happens when the Ben that left the island comes back?

I haven’t gotten that far yet. In the Orchid video, the Dr. shouted to keep the rabbits away from each other…I am hoping this gets answered when they give us more info about the video. I’m just speculating…like normal. :)

LOSTscape?
They have this new minigame on the ABC.com Lost Site i’ve played it a little and there are items to collect, i think there might be clues to the remaining episodes in there perhaps?
all the items lead to videoclips, i’m hoping there’s a easter egg clip with info about the finale or something =p

Did time travel get brought up because of The Orchid video or something else?
Comment 16, posted 3 months, 1 week ago - Quote and reply
i think the best example of alternate time lines is in yi jeon. when it shows jin buying the stuffed animal, when is that? past or future? year of the dragon is a clue but not a definitive one. i could see this as an alternate jin who did not marry sun, similar to des buying the engagement ring ‘this time’.

LOSTscape, was jsut announced could that be the start of the online prolouge?
The online prolouge to season 5 might have already started? though it IS ont he main ABC site there are lots of clues and things to find, it’s a bit like a point and click adventure. each item has a small video clip relating to the item that was just found, I’ve found 33 out of 34 i’m still looking for the last one.
there’s also a sweepstakes too so maybe it acts as a portal to the new ARG? which starts on the main ABC site ?

I agree, no alternate time lines. Like I said earlier. I THINK it means that the mythology is makeing it possible to not only travel in time concisously, but make it possible for one’s concious(or whole self) to be in two time periods at once.

Aaron is a key.
AARON’s FATHER… Since Claire does not leave the island and is in Kate’s care…Could AARON’s FATHER (Thomas..no last name..curious?) turn up to claim him? Could Thomas have had any prior association with Ben? In season 1 we learn that Claire is directed toward the flight. Take a look at AARON’s father, Thomas, and NOTE the striking resemblance to BEN…http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Thomas
Flashforward to Kate’s trial. Kate has perpetuated the myth that Aaron is her son. Her own mother believes this. Why hide the truth about Claire? Is Aaron at risk if people think that Aaron is Claire’s?

This is brilliant…really. Michael..who knows…where Ben is in all of this. Claire is such a nucleus. Between her mother and Jack’s dad, the fact that she was the central focus of the kidnapping, her baby’s, eventually Aaron’s, examination..and INJECTION (we still don’t know exactly where that will take him), and now KATE.

Yes, about Aussie-Thomas…so not literally Ben..but perhaps the same gene pool. All roads point to Ben knowing Claire was pregnant. The question is if he had foreknowledge that it was THIS baby, Aaron..and made sure they were on 815.

Thomas was a painter and his painting appears not only in the brief shot of his apartment BUT ALSO on Widmore’s wall. What’s with that? So..maybe Widmore is behind Thomas and Claire?

Circus Mom, you raise a valid and thoughtful note..and given Kate’s character would fully expect she would absolutely view Aaron as her son in the spirit of your point. I don’t, however, trust Kate’s mother whose character and betrayal of her own daughter make her less of a humanist.

Something I notice a while back. Thomas is a painter. Ben has many paintings. The stile of Thomas’s paint is a lot like the stile of the paintings on the walls inside the hatch. The briefly show them when Locke first goes down in the hatch,

Thank you very much.
Something else I noticed, which may be nothing just like, is the way both Ben and Thomas get upset. If I’m repeating myself to any of you, sorry. When Thomas brakes up with Claire he get really upset then calm extremely quickly just like Ben did with Juliet when he was showing her Goodwin’s body.

I didn’t know D & C said that. Well that make what the psychic said that much more important.
At first it seems like he was genuinely warning her. Then he changes his tune to get her on the plane. I thinking that some one got to him to make sure Claire kept the baby and got on that plain. And how ever did get to him held his daughters life as ransom. “they” tell him his daughter is going to die but they can save her IF he does this.

Not stealing anyone’s thunder. But I have been saying for years that the main characters were all “set up” to get on 815. You guys are (I think) are getting close to why Claire was. I think this because they soon have to let the “cat out of the bag” to Jack and Claire about being siblings. The “big” questions for me is…Who set up them all up? Leaning towards Widmore.

Exactly. That is the big question. But I think there can be more than 1 answer. Meaning, Widmore had people on the plane and so did Ben; and maybe not purposefully, maybe some were just by fate or luck ( although we all know “you have to create your own luck” ).
I think it has been pretty obvious that they were on the flight for a reason.

Good point, with all the time travel and spying going on. It would make sense that if one side was putting folks on the plane then the other(pun intended)side would do the same. This goes with “our” theory that Libby is a Widmore plant, Locke a “Jacob” plant, etc.
Comment 48, posted 3 months ago - Quote and reply
Here’s another one to ponder. With an end date announced, do you think we will get answers about the cult like stuff that the Others were doing? Juliette’s branding as a punishment, the weird water burial, the brain washing room, etc.? I wonder if that stuff was going to be filler if ABC kept dragging the show out.

Great round of comments about the “stocking of the plane”. I agree with you, Hammer, some of the less obvious places to mine for clues are the richest with possibilities.
Libby is everywhere..GIVING Des the boat (Talk about a plant); Libby at the pysch ward surreptiously observing Hurley; Libby on the plane..or is she an Other who shows up?
Aaron is the son of two people..(Thomas..where are you now? With his paintings appearing on Widmore’s wall..possibly Ben’s point made by michael).
Leonard Simms who gives Hurley the “numbers” at the pysch ward seems to suffer the exact symptoms as George Minkowski did earlier this season.
WHAT HAPPENED to WALT? He seems to have slipped to a secondary role..but another critical one. Is he with the CHILDREN from the flight..who are now being raised by ex-flight attendant, Cindy Chandler..(I think she was a plant).
As lost4ever says: ” I think there can be more than 1 answer” and “I think it has been pretty obvious that they were on the flight for a reason.”
Those reasons explains much of L O S T.

So for now, he’s out of play. But his “special” abilities have to be explained and come back into play at some point IMO. I am guessing he’ll be part of the story of who populates the island at the end.

I think with the statements made by D&C above, Walt will be on the show in the next 2 seasons. They have opened the door for the actor Malcom David Kelly to return as Walt and play the role at his current age.

I like how you are thinking, Michael. The disorientation displayed by Leonard, one of the two monitors of what became island activity, reflects the intensity and disorientation that Minkowski sees. Leonard was at a hospital likely on some kind of medicine..Minkowski did not get that advantage. The ISLAND got to both of them. THE HOSPITAL..is one out of the box place. LOCKE”S mother spent time there. And, that Matthew Abbadon..not only goes to visit Hurley, but was RECRUITING the Freightors. Who does he work for? Just watched Season two “One of the Them” last night and there is definitely something weird going on between Danielle and Ben. When “Henry Gale” was caught up in her trap, she already knew waaaaay to much about him and was very insistent to Sayid that Benry would lie about everything.
Also, it was interesting how, from the very beginning, Ben played mind games with Locke…he definitely has some master plan in mind when it comes to Locke, should be interesting to see how it plays out.
