JJ Abrams to produce new show

According to The Hollywood Reporter, JJ Abrams is in negotiations to executive produce and possibly direct a new medical drama pilot for HBO.
The project which was recently given green light, was created by Academy Award winner Tom Schulman and Rafael Yglesias, and is a look at the battle against cancer from the patients’ point of view.
If things go as planned, JJ will executive produce through the six-year deal with Warner Bros TV that his company Bad Robot signed last year.
I’m just speculating now, but this probably means that JJ will dedicate even less time to Lost. In not sure if it will make much of a difference though, since the impression I’ve gotten is that Damon and Carlton have been pulling all the strings for quite some time.
I’m still a fan of JJ’s work though, so it will be interesting to see how this new show turns out.
Oh, and in other news, Emilie de Ravin who plays Claire has separated from her husband.

So after all that “all i wanted to do after promoting m:i 3 was direct and write an episode of lost” crap, this is what we get? I think JJ’s episodes are amazing and was hopeing for some more since it’s been so long. He just has that knack for finding the perfect camera angle. I’ve been watching the first and second seasons for the last week now and no other director captures the essence of lost like he does. Is this a sign of his confidence in lost? Should we expect others to jump ship too?

If we’re talking about directors, I feel that Jack Bender is doing a pretty great job too.
If I’m not mistaken, the next Lost episode “Not in Portland” was directed by JJ, and “A Tale of Two Cities” was written by him, so he has been a bit more involved this season.
I don’t think the “lack” of involvement in Lost is due to low confidence in the show. JJ strikes me as a a starter. He enjoys coming up with new projects and ideas. That doesn’t mean that he doesn’t care about his old projects, just that he doesn’t have enough time to spend working on them.
I don’t think others will jump the ship, except writer Jeph Loeb who already quit to work on Heroes.
