How did you “Find” Lost?

I heard about Lost early on in 2004 or 2005, but decided not to watch it. I saw the commercials and thought “Oh, it’s going to be a soap opera on an island… *yawn*”.

Then I think I watched the Season finale of S1. “Hey, this is no simple drama… it’s a mystery… maybe a sci fi, even?” I thought that was pretty cool and different. I had free Netflix at the time, so I ended up using it on the whole season and catching up over the summer. I was soooo hooked.

But I think the crazy/obsessive addiction of loving Lost to the point of doing screencaptures, reversing audio, writing transcripts, posting on forums, etc. happened beginning of last year. I had some personal health issues, and it was a real escape, and before long I was sucked into the “online community” and as fanatic as any fan could be.

How did you get started with Lost? Do you have any plans for the Wednesday night premiere? Share your stories in the comments!

  1. my first time to watch the episode of lost i knew it was going to be interesting…

i was changing channels when that happened. i always check out the shows in AXN. i like the shows that they show there.. they even have CSI!! so i thought AXN wouldn’t put it there if it wasn’t good. so while browsing and switching channels i’ve arrived to channel AXN and it was at that time that the 1st episode was showing. When i saw the first episode, i knew i was hooked!!! i know there’s going to be a lot of backflash scenes and episodes.. i became a lost addict but i wasn’t aware of the online community not until the first season was about to end. Because at that time i didn’t know there was going to be a second season so i was really waiting for the ending.
but now that the second season has ended and the 3rd season is about to start.. i’m soooooo excited!!!

  2. From the first episode i was hooked. it was unlike any show i had ever seen, especially visually. the way its shot is so different. i havent been this into a show since six feet under. just like six feet under, lost is one of those special shows.

  3. To be honest, I really disliked Lost the first time I saw it. My brother was watching something on TV, and it happened to be the scenes in season one where the losties first hear Rousseau’s message on the radio.

In that scene the camera spins around everyone two or three times and it almost made me a bit dizzy, so I was really annoyed by the way they had shot the scene. But of course I kept on watching since the story was interesting, and a couple of minutes later I was hooked.

Now I’ve seen most episodes 3 or 4 times and I run this little website, so I guess I don’t need to tell you that my impression of Lost has changed quite a bit since the first time I saw the show, hehe.

As for my plans for the upcoming season 3 premiere, visit the site as soon as the episode ends and you will find out!

  4. The first Lost that I saw was when Locke went all crazy and hit Syaide in the head when he was trying to Contact someone on the radio. I thought it look cool so I continued to watch it. I was hooked by the time they found the hatch

  5. I watched the first show not really knowing what it was. I would have to say that it was the cliffhanger serial type show endings that kept me coming back …much in the way Alias hooked me …you watch the next show because you want to see what happens next. You feel like you are learning a secret and its fun.

  6. I cant really remember the first epsiode i saw, but I know it was near the end of S1…I was like “WOAH” And I’ve been hooked ever since. Some people call me a LOST geek….i tell them their missing out.

  7. I saw the commercial when season 1 was about to start. I first thought it was a movie, and really wanted to see it, but later I discovered it was a serie, and forgot about it…. until a friend of mine said I really had to watch it. This was when season 2 was around episode 6 or something.

So, i borrowed his season 1 DVD, and checked everything. I loved it immediatly, since the beach scene with the plane from the pilot.

I watched a few eps every night, until I could watch the tv eps. Around episode 15 of season 2, i started watching season 1 all over again with my gf and family.

I still love it, and can’t wait till wednesday (thursday actually… live in holland, so gotta wait till i can download it… no worries, i’ll buy the dvd :))

  8. I really feel like it’s that kind of show where if you stumble in in the middle and had never seen it before, you’d be totally confused… and you’d go one of two ways from there. You’d either throw up your hands in exasperation and those with short attention spans would look elsewhere, or you’d stick it out and grow fascinated by the complexity. It’s no “American Idol”, that’s for sure!

  9. I saw the UK promo of Lost and I thought, “Hey, that looks pretty cool” and here I am now. Seen every episode and I love it! :)

  10. I agree with Cecilia. Ive tried every method I can to get my friends who dont atch it to watch it but the bottom line is its VERY hard to get into unless youve seen every episode before.

    I hope s3 is AWESOME

  11. Several co-workers were heavily into Lost around the start of the second season. I expressed some interest, but didn’t watch it until I received the season 1 DVD set in our office Christmas gift exchange. Again, I didn’t watch it until about two months ago, and then my wife and I blew through it in a little over a week. We purchased the season 2 set and we’re almost finished with it (just the season finale to go!) just in time for the third season to start on television.

  12. Lost was always kind of one of those things that I thought was pretty cool but never had the time to watch. When I borrowed the Season 1 DVD, I watched it in 3 days – catching episodes before school, after school, even biking home during lunch break to watch a show or even an act. I was pretty into it. I downloaded all the Season 2 Episodes and watched them during the hiatus – just in time for “The 23rd Psalm”.

  13. I acually didn’t start watching lost until the begining of this summer. I heard it was really good, but never started watching it, so I went out and bought the 1st season, it was amazing, and then i got the second season the day it came out. I’m really looking forward to wenesday!!!

  14. This is so funny..
During S1 I would be talking to my mom on the phone (3 time zones away) and she would be like “omg I gotta go… Lost is coming on.” She tried to explain it to me but as most people that dont watch it, I was just like I ‘yea… polar bears…. tropical island… hmm…right…’. She came to visit when the season 1 finale came on. She INSISTED that we watch it. I drove her nuts while it was on asking questions. I was like “who is he….is he nuts?…..whats in the hatch…. who are the others?” (You have to remember at this time NO ONE knew) so finally she was like SHUT UP JULIE AND WATCH! I DONT KNOW ANY MORE THAN YOU DO AND IVE WATCHED THE WHOLE SEASON! I found that absolutely hillarious.
I didnt really care to catch up on what I had missed in the first season and when the second started I tried to hang in there. By this point I had a boyfriend that drove me just as crazy while watching it as I drove my mother. He rented Season 1 from Blockbuster and I dont know if I was just looking for stuff…. but I got a lot more out of it than he did. It was a real AH HA moment.
I LOVED season two and it became a ‘dont miss’. The whole Lost Experience was just something that pulled me in even more. It challenged you. It became more than just a show that made you do ‘hmm?’. It actually made you think and put 2 and 2 together.
I totally have to thank you guys (Ceclia and Andres) because once I had the baby it was like I was sooo lost and I missed playing TLE. Once you were out of it, there was no getting back in.
I can’t wait for season 3… and all the ‘thinking’ that goes with it.

  15. I heard a lot of guys and s talking about it at school (I’m in high school) halfway through the first season, and I started watching and I instantly became addicted. As soon as the Season One DVDs came out I bought them at watched all the episodes I missed. That was pretty awesome. Now, I’m a LOST internet junkie who is counting down the minutes to the premier. I intend to throw a giant party with … myself … on Wednesday night.

Um, ya. I typed up a huge summary of the first two seasons and all the characters and gave it to the rest of my family. I intend to make them addicted, too. They already told me that they’d watch the premier. Muahahaha! More Lostie addicts on the way!

  16. i saw the promo commercials for its first season, and my whole family was interested in seeing it. we’re all Survivor fans (CBS on thursdays) so the whole “getting stranded on a deserted island” concept was kind of welcoming to us. we didn’t expect all of the mysterious “others”, black horses, polar bears, or huge magnetic bases to occur, but we all think that the differant ideas make a really great show! im proud to say im a LOST fan!!!

    i love locke!!!!

  17. Actually, I never even knew that Lost existed. I just thought, “yeah, my parents are watching something.” Then after they finished S1, they made me watch it. It is the most addicting thing on TV. I don’t go 2 days without doing something related to Lost. Even if it is just going on to LostBlog or Lost Links, just to see whats happening. Only two more days!

  18. i’d like to add that i also found that the makers of this production were already good to begin with.. so i trusted the production would have a very good tv series. :)

is this THE lostpedia (in)famous bob?

  20. Killer, I sure hope not… probably more than one Bob that watches Lost? :)

  21. I missed the first three episodes of season one of LOST, even though I had really been looking forward to it. I heard that it was going to be a demanding storyline so I figured I’d just wait for the DVD before starting into it. I was lucky that CTV in Canada re-aired the first episodes over a couple of nights in an attempt to catch people like me up, and I have been hooked ever since.

During season 2 my wife and I had LOST parties most weeks, inviting friends to come watch, so long as they shut the hell up during the show. ;)

I followed the ARG all summer, though I didn’t have the time to be much of a ‘player’, and I bought Bad Twin as soon as it came out.

I can’t wait for tonight. As a fan of both scifi and great dramatic tv, I am so stoked to see what happens next.

And I’m happy to be amongst similar people.

  22. I got into LOST quite by accident. I was being deployed to Iraq so I was downloading some other TV shows off a newsgroup (Battlestar Galactica) to take with me on a Pocket PC. I downloaded the episodes “because they were there”. When I got home, I had to buy the Season one DVD and I haven’t missed an episode since.

  23. I saw the promos for S1 and thought it looked completely dumb. I didn’t watch a single episode. My mother has watched from the beginning and is totally hooked. As she talked about it I became more intrigued so I started watching in S2. Two episodes in I was so confused and had so many questions, so I rented S1 and watched the entire season in a weekend. HOOKED!!! I’ve not missed an episode since. It’s crazy how this show makes me feel! Every one of my friends and family know not to call me on Wednesday nights!!

  24. I frequent a completely unrelated message board concerbned with guns & politics. In Spring 2005 a group of people couldn’t stop talking about this TV show called Lost. It sounded mysterious, suspenseful, funny, exciting, so I checked it out and they were right. Great acting, writing, ideas, characters. I love this show.
