Greatest Hits
1 year, 6 months ago by WillRead more: Jack, Juliet, Lost Episodes, The Others

Tonight’s Lost episode is called Greatest Hits, which is apropos given that in the preview this week we can clearly see that Jack has something explosive in store for the Others. However, I cannot help but think that Ben may have orchestrated this whole occurrence and is basically still pulling all the strings. Say what you want about Ben, but he is definitely not an idiot and clearly understands that he can no longer trust Juliet. As we head into the season finale it will be interesting to see how this particular show sets us up for the final two hours and who will still be alive after the dust settles.
This is the official description of “Greatest Hits”:
Warning, Spoilers!
“Greatest Hits” - Jack devises a plan to do away with “The Others” once and for all, Sayid uncovers a flaw in “The Others’” system that could lead to everyone’s rescue, and Charlie’s dangerous task may make Desmond’s premonition come true. Wednesday, May 16 at 10/9c on ABC
Episode Preview:
You can also see a sneak peak of Greatest Hits.
Two things before we get into the post for tonight’s episode:
- If you Google “Lost TV Show” you get about 77,000,000 results, so if you want to discuss spoilers, get the script for the season finale, or complain about the non-spoiler atmosphere this site attempts to offer, you have at least 76,999,999 more options
- Most of the significant plot points for what is left of this season have been exposed on multiple websites; let’s try to keep that stuff off this site
Enough said about that. See you all in the comments after the show. Read them all before you add your own, stay on topic and have fun.

Hang on…where did the rest of my comment go? I wrote way more than that! Anyway, to add to my lame post above…
I can’t wait to see how the Losties react to Jack and Juliet’s attempts to gain trust, especially considering the skepticism that exists with Sawyer and Sayid. And let’s face it, Sayid is one badass mofo that you WANT on your side…

Hopefully we get more from Naomi as well as it relates to her true allegiance. I am beginning to suspect she is a plant by Ben to divert both the Losties and the Others from his greater scheme.

Meg, I generally agree with you, but it seems to me that perhaps Ben is playing both sides and that is ultimately why Jack and Juliet are together. Further, maybe Naomi was planted there to help divert the greater attention of both factions so that whatever Ben has planned for the showdown could be achieved.

I don’t think she’s a Ben plant. I think that if she is an other, then she was sent by the people that Ben is connected to in the outside world to help re-establish communication to the outside world. Though you can’t trust Ben. His reaction to her arrival and her helo crashing was a surprise to him.

But you have to think… does Ben know that Desmond is back? Sure he knew that Desmond was in the hatch.. they could go and watch him… however… as far as they know he left on his boat and is still circling the mystery island. Remember how shocked he was to discover that the losties had a boat?
So… if he doesn’t know that Desmond has joined up with the losties…. how would he know to plant Naomi w/ info that is Desmond specific?

I’m excited about this episode, it sounds like they will answer more of our questions.
Now if they only answer what happened to Walt & Michael!!
As for Naomi. I don’t think that she is a ‘plant” by Ben. I really think that Penny sent her and it stems from last season’s finale with the 2 Portuguese men in the snow getting the blip on the radar, and how Penny said that with enough money you could find anyone. I really think that she never gave up on finding Desmond, and used the resources she had to find him.
That being said, I cannot wait for tonight’s episode!
Comment 11, posted 1 year, 6 months ago - Quote and reply
Will, I tend to agree that Ben always seems to be one step ahead of everyone on the island. I am not sure about Naomi, however, I do not trust her yet. Hopefully ,we will hear more from her tonight or get a better feel from Sayid regarding his impressions of her mission. Maybe Mikhail’s revelation to Ben was some kind of “code phrase” to let Ben know that help had arrived. I find it hard to believe that the Hostiles’ connection in the outside world would just ignore their recent silence.
Comment 12, posted 1 year, 6 months ago - Quote and reply
I am not sure why I did not notice this before, but it seems that in many of the scenes Richard Alpert is wearing a watch but none of the others folks are.
Comment 13, posted 1 year, 6 months ago - Quote and reply
I don’t think Naomi is a plant for the main reason of her arrival. If Ben sent her, why would she be sent the way she was. She almost died, and if that had happened, Bens plan, if he had sent her, wouldn’t have worked. I don’t know if this is actually making any sense. I’m having trouble putting words to my thought.

I think her comment was about the people on the ship out a mile or so off the island.

I am thinking that if Naomi isn’t with Pen, than her not alone comment was intended for the others and because she was in and out of conciousness, she may not have realized that she even said and to who it was said.

Hello Everybody! Thought i’d put my thoughts out here:
1) i agree completly with will. ben ALWAYS finds away to stay on top of things. even when sayid was torturing him he found a way to learn more about him. he was messing with the losties the WHOLE time he was down in the hatch. he is gonna stay ahead of jack & julliette. naomi too.
2) naomi is a spy from somebody. she’s NOT from penny, i just can’t decide if she really is an other or if she’s with dharma or somebody else altogether. there’s something wrong about her. the way she came in, patchy helping her (he would NOT have helped Charlie or anyone else), her, ben’s reaction (it wasn’t lets go in & kill her, it was lets go in & meet her).
3) it’s kinda funny that everybody (practically everybody) on here is waiting for Sayid to say more about naomi before they make up their minds about her.
4) why is there a pic of jack on the top of this thing. ain’t it charlie’s ep?
Comment 22, posted 1 year, 6 months ago - Quote and reply
I think JAcks picture is on there because its considered a spoiler knowing whose episode it is. Please don’t tell us whose it is.

It’s actually 80 nautical miles off the coast. That’s a significant distance for her to say ‘I’m not alone’.
Personally, I think Naomi isn’t connected with Penny in any way. I can’t explain how she got the picture of Pen and Des, and I don’t know what else she could be doing on the island other than being in some kind of cahoot with Big Bad Benry, but I like the idea that this is an attempt by the outside world to contact The Others, and not rescue the 815 survivors.

i think naomi could be sent by dharma( maybe penny is with dharma?!?!?) because they may not have known the island got taken over by the hostile because the numbers were still getting pushed, which is why theyre still getting their food but then locke sent out something frm that station thing to say hostiles have taken over, i hope we see micheal and walt again in tonights episode
p.s is a a 2 hour episode tonight or one more next week??

Hiya all, look forward to meeting u back here soon to comment on what we saw.
Stuff I’m hoping to be filled in on tonight..
1) Naomi.
Just to learn a little more about her but i think she’ll be a season 4 feature.
2) Jack & Juliet.
Need to find out what they are up to. I think Jack is ahead of Ben AND Juliet here. Is Julie planning a purge of the beach ala Ben killing his Dad ect? I re-watched the ep last night (cant remember title sorry) where Julie is taken to the island. She looks pretty dam sad as she’s setting up her tent & the scene is overlapped with Ben stating what she has to do & that he’ll be there to get her in a week. She’s Sad perhaps because she knows she’ll have to off her new love interest in Jack as Ben already sent her man Goodwin off to Ana Lucia & the Tailies & look where that got him.
3)The Walt & Michael Issue.
You know all the losties basically hate Michael for his deception so whatever happens with these guys will be interesting.
Seeya all soon!

I missed the first 15 minutes, but read about it on dark ufo so hopefully they got it right.
- yah!!! Rose, Bernard, & Carl are back!!!!!! Rose & Bernard were tying knots & carl came to worn the losties!
- I knew jin would want to know why julliette said their name on the tape & them all looking at sun! but as usual, she didn’t tell him the WHOLE truth.
- what happened to alex’s hand??? Is it just me or did they look a bit torn up?
- so ben just makes up what they say??? I don’t remember anything when ben & Jacob were fighting that sounded (this is judging from ben’s lines) like Jacob said “take all preggers ladys & kill anyone who get in the way.”
- alex & carl make the cutest couple!!! I want them to stay together. J
- Charlie knows nadia!!!!!! She’s awesome! Her & sayid are destined for each other & WILL (mark my words) find each other!
- if I find out that Charlie’s ring gets exploded I’m gonna cry! If one of the things that meant the most to him get exploded? Nuh-uh. No thank u. no ma’am!
- we finally get to see Charlie & Claire meeting! He is so sweet! Now I’m gona cry & cry! U wanna complain about locke maybe possibly being dead, he didn’t/doesn’t have anybody like Charlie. Charlie has 3 people (Claire, aaron, & me!).
- more people get knocked out on this show than anyother show in the world!
- I thought Charlie couldn’t swimm, but now he suddenly can? PLEASE tell me what I missed! J
- who’s the blonde chick? I seem to remember her.

Great episode in my opinion, say whatever you want about the direction of the show, but the moments like where Charlie knocks out Desmond to put himself in greater danger are the ones that make this worthwhile. Next week is shaping up to deliver in a major way. I could literally feel the tension between Jack and Sayid. So, the question is, who are the women that Charlie encountered in The Looking Glass? More Others planted there by Ben?

What a terrible episode. We got absolutely nothing out of it. 2nd worst episode of the year behind Volkswagon Bus.
Anywho, I know everyone is assuming Charlie died. I am positive that he wont, next week anyways. He will be down in that station for at least a few episodes next season. Other Losties will think he is dead, but he wont be. I think Bernard is done for. He will be the shows answer to a “major” character dying. I bet the last 5 minutes of next week will include some mysterious rustling which implies (possibly doesnt 100 percent confirm) that Locke is still alive.
Comment 38, posted 1 year, 6 months ago - Quote and reply
Well then, let the games begin! Is this episode gonna draw another ~750 comments?!
I honestly have no idea what is going to happen in the final two hours of this season. There are so many different directions in which they can take the show - a “Choose your own adventure” of sorts for the writers.
-Is anyone else wondering why they didn’t just try to cut the cable that runs to the Looking Glass station?
-Once again, Sayid proves to be the only person on the island that is thinking rationally.
-Alpert looked genuinely surprised and upset that Locke didn’t return with Ben. It’s a sign to me that there is definitely a major rift between them.
-Did I hear correctly that Juliet told Sun “I’m sorry I lied to you.” ? I take that as a confirmation of the common theory that Jin really isn’t the father, and that Sun won’t have to die.
I don’t know, there was a lot of small little things in this episode that play into the big picture, but it didn’t have the jaw-dropping revelation like many of the more recent episodes. Regardless, I enjoyed the story quite a bit. I’m not sure why there has been so much anti-Charlie sentiment among the fans of this blog recently, but I disagree with it. Charlie is still a capable and valuable character to this show.
Now, bring on the onslaught… I imagine there will be well over 100 comments by the time I wake up!

yah, i can get back on here again!
well, anyways the episode. it wasn’t an amazing episode like last week’s or the brig but it was still good. i’d like to thank the writers for making me go from charlie can die to he can’t die! not a kick ass episode but an emotional ep. i’m going to cry, cry, & then cry some more if they kill him.
i have to rewatch the episode since i missed about the first 15 minutes thanks to company, so forgive me if i’m not all in on it.
1) i thought charlie could NOT swimm. he couldn’t save that chick who drowned in sea. 1 cuz he couldn’t swimm. now he can swimm to the underwater hatch?
2) as usual, when jin asked what’s going on with sun, she only tells him the 1/2 truth.
3)carl’s back! him & alex make the cutest couple! :) i’m such a girl. i was ballin when charlie & claire met, when charlie met nadia all i can think is “nadia & sayid ARE going to meet! they’re gonna get back together!” so i don’t remember what she said to charlie. it was somethin about im bein a hero right?
4)did this episode prove that ben just makes up what jacob says? i don’t remember ben saying anything that sounded like an answer to what he told price (i thought that’s what ben called him) to do in his fight with jacob.

Is it just me or did the brunette in the hatch look like the girl the Sawyer conned/ the girl the helped Kate see her mom? I dunno… Only saw a glance.
The tension between Alex and Ben continues to grow. She seems to be aware that Ben might be here adopted father, wonder if that will speed up her “wanna kill daddy” complex.
Definite worry from Alpert at the sight of Ben without Locke. Doubt we will see Locke til next season, at the very earliest, the end of next episode.
Jack is awfully demanding of trust, but it seems he was just being hard headed rather than a trader.
Liked the Greatest Hits theme. It was sweet.

re-watching the episode {i get eastern & western showings :)} a couple things i’ve noticed:
1) was it really neccessary to bring EVERYBODY out into the jungle to meet danielle? couldn’t jack have just said “look, danielle the french chick is gonna bring some dynamite over. when the others get here, we’re gonna blow ‘em up into tiny bits.” and the example was a bit much too, all tho it was fun to watch. :)
2) wtf is wrong with jack? he has NO time for anybody other than julliette (& danielle). sayid is smart, brilliant, & still rational.
AND:
fmgreensteve - knew that would cum up! but it’s evidence for my theory, so does that allow me to break the guidlines?

I think Desmond getting hit in the head with the oar by Charlie will turn out to be significant, a la him changing things when he got hit (instead of the bartender) by the guy with the baseball bat. When he woke up, he was on the island after the implosion of the hatch. Don’t know how it will be significant, but I think it’s probably more than him just knocked unconscious.

What the hell are people talking about this not being a good episode; that’s nuts! We get to see Carl again and he comes to save the Losties with Alex’s help. We see Rose and Bernard again, see what the dynamite was for from Danielle, get to see that Charlie is a hero then and now, get to see inside the underwater station, see some scary Others coming to get the Losties…and a crazed Ben out for blood. See more of the conflict between Ben and Alpert. We see that Juliet does seem to be with the Losties after all…and it all sets up the big showdown for next week.
That was a real dumb move to let Mikhail go!
I hope they have a real good reason why no one thought to cut that cable to the underwater station…and why the hell didn’t anyone follow it before?
Maybe the three toed statue was an animal!
Maybe the Others are Scientologists…that would be scary!
Charlie was pretty stupid to start screaming when he got into the underwater station…not exactly James Bond. I doubt Desmond would be that dumb. And if I had that outrigger I’d put a sail on it, load it with food and head out looking for the rescue people. Well, maybe I’d stay and try and pick up Claire after Charlie gets offed. Ha! Or maybe Para-chica; she’s hot.
Locke is not dead.
But I hope Michael gets his ass handed to him if he ever comes back. What a snake.
Wait, that’s an insult to snakes. He’s snake shit.

I sure missed commenting last night! This episode was great and set up lots of potential story lines. I noticed lots of little things:
Ben loves rabbits and Alex was cleaning a dead one, also a nod to Alice in Wonderland.
We need an explanation of how Ben got Locke’s gun. I am sure it has to do with the little time wrinkle that appeared to happend in Jacob’s shack when the lantern fell to the floor.
We did not see Desmond on the London street when Charlies was singing Wunderwall and the camera deliberately panned from Charlie’s perspective to look at the crowd.
The two women in the Looking Glass appear to be dressed in the same garb as Naomi (gonna need to watch again to confirm). Must be an extremely important station to be guarded like that.
Did Sayid have some other motivation for sending Jack to the radio tower with everyone else? I am not so sure that he trusts Jack yet.
Why would Desmond offer to take Charlie’s place knowing he would botch the timing of a rescue attempt?
Some folks mentioned cutting the cable from the Looking Glass. I am not so sure that would affect the signal but I get the impression that station could be the key to the island’s little miracles - it appears to be a generator of sorts. Water powered? Cutting that cable might just get them killed if it the power source.
Information about the dead from the plane wreckage seems more and more like a real event than a story Naomi made up. Memorials and greatest hits album. What gives?
Charlei’s ring on the beach could foreshadow his return.
No Locke! Is he gathering his power to re-emerge like Gandolf the great white wizard?
Looking forwad to so many more ideas!

Like Bobola (comment #62), I don’t know why people say this episode sucked. It may not have been as great as last week’s, but last week’s was arguably one of the best of the whole 3 seasons (probably #2, behind the pilot episode, IMHO). The main point of this episode was to set up what will happen next week.
I found it interesting that people thought it was not exciting because Charlie didn’t die. I expect that if Charlie did die in this episode, people would have complained that it was too predictable, being that it was a Charlie-centric episode, and being that early in the episode Desmond said “this time you have to die”.
It seemed a bit strange to me that Rousseau was so willing to go along with Jack’s plan to blow up all the Others. Wouldn’t she be concerned that Alex would be among the group of Others that came to get the women? Perhaps Juliet told Rousseau offscreen that Alex probably wouldn’t be part of that group, but how would Rousseau know for sure that that was true? Either Juliet could be lying, or the Others’ plan could have changed.

I may be WAY OFF on this, but did anyone think in the flashback with Charlie playing guitar in the rain, that the girl standing there watching him with the hat on, looked sort of like NAOMI??? I think I’m just trying to make connections whereever I can and I end up making people look like someone they are not! AGH!
And then I read that the lady Charlie helped in the alley was Nadia, the girl Sayid was in love with? I didn’t notice that at all while watching.
