Cloverfield Update
2 years, 7 months ago by krisRead more: JJ Abrams
J.J Abrams newest movie project, Cloverfield, comes out in movie theaters this Friday, January 18th. But before you go see the movie, take a look at what one of our sleuths dug up on the promotional website http://www.1-18-08.com.
What you are seeing is an as of yet unreleased still frame from the movie. We wont make any assumptions about the plot, but we are fairly certain this gives you another clue about what to expect.

Pretty cool flik. Does anyone know where to find the last scene on the net anywhere? Supposed to have something pretty important in the back ground and I missed it at the theatre.
Anyone want to discuss the movie? I thought it was really good.

I thought the movie was great!! I never thought it would happen: a GOOD, actually scary monster movie. Who would of guessed? I especially liked the ending. And how the movie was recorded over his day with Beth and the flashes of that day right after a horrific scene.

Meg,
Did you notice the thing that dropped into the ocean in the last “happy” scene? To me it is the brilliance of a JJ production. The foresight to show an important event that happen long before in the last scene…very Lostesque.

I’m not quite sure which scene you’re talking about. Although I can’t remember much of the begining since the little alien thingys scared the crap out of me. I have a thing with spidery looking creatures.

At the very end of the movie, when the video shows Coney Island with Rob and Beth, in background to the right, by a passing ship, an object falls into the water. There is speculation that it was part of the satellite that was damaged in the “viral” pre story or was the “egg” that the monster was born from several weeks before the attack. Are you aware of the pre story?
Comment 10, posted 2 years, 7 months ago -
No, I’m not. What is it? I didn’t do any pre-movie investgating like I do with lost. I only went to see it because of J.J. Abrams.

Okay, JJ did some viral marketing. There is a website slusho.jp which is a frozen drink that is made with an ingredient that a Japaneze drilling co. discovered at the bottom of the ocean. Rob is going to work for Slusho in Japan and his brother was wearing a Slusho T shirt in the movie. The ingredient is very cold and under pressure. It makes you healthier and “bigger”. The company did some experiments in outer space using satelites and apparently a satelite was damaged. Many have theorized that monster is a mutation from the experiments or was disturbed during drilling in the ocean. There was also a site 01-18-08.com that has a pile of still picture (not in the movie but related) that when assembled in order give clues.
So…the splash into the ocean in the last scene at Coney Island can possibly be the damaged satelite falling to Earth or maybe the spawn of the monster that took several weeks to grow and possibly feeding off the ingredient at the ocean floor.
That’s what I have been able to find so far…

Wow, this went a lot deeper than I thought. Though I guess I shouldn’t be suprise that you don’t get all the information from the movie. Now I need to see it again.

1-18-08.com makes a lot more sense after you’ve seen the movie. Is that bloody washed up carcus on the beach supposed to be the monster?
Comment 14, posted 2 years, 7 months ago -
Wow, that slusho website is very odd.

Sure is…there is a message from a “consumer” that asks why the number 6 is so important to Slusho. Sound a little like Lost?
Oh, and yeah, the carcus has horns so I assume it is either THE monster or one of many?

I was looking around the web for more answers about the monster, and apparently J.J. Abrams had said at some point that the monster was a baby, yet had been underwater for thousands of years. That makes me think that you’re right Hammer, and there are more.
But what the hell where those creepy spider-looking thingy?
Comment 17, posted 2 years, 7 months ago -
Yep, JJ wins again…left me wanting more. Like you say, what’s with the parasites? Why do humans suddenly swell in the belly and explode from being bitten by the parasites?
If the monster had been down there for years, did it grow because the drilling released the ingredient so that the creature could get to it and grow?

just saw the film, it was original to say the least, left some questions unanswered though

It’s the same as lost: a lot of the answers are out there, you just have to look for them.

Okay folks…possible link from Lost to Cloverfield…the number 6.
Number 6 is somehow important to the Slusho Company and now we have the Oceanic 6….dun, dun, duuuuun…

How is 6 important to Slusho?
Comment 22, posted 2 years, 7 months ago -
Well, their logo is “You can’t drink just six.” Also, if you go to the happy talk part of the Sluhso website, one of the comments asks why 6 is important to Slusho, but no answer is given.
Comment 23, posted 2 years, 6 months ago -
Hey! I found something interesting while on the Slusho website http://www.slusho.jp … well there are a lot of interesting things on it, but in the Happy Talk section if you go through the sayings there are a lot of weird ones, but one in particular caught my attention, it says “She is one of them.” Now that sounds A LOT like Lost. I don’t know how long it has been up there, but I would think that it would apply to Season 4… Interesting… What do you think?

Yeah, that one has troubled me too. Because I have been looking for a Lost link. I don’t see how that comment applies to Cloverfield except in one long shot way. The only person that we can assume escaped was the girl that got on the other chopper. Maybe she is one of them…I don’t know what that would mean though. The world cup comment troubles me too.

In addition to the O6 to the “you can’t drink just six” Slusho slogan, we now have Minknowski say he was just on a ferris wheel. JJ just having fun with us?

Hammer.. I totally agree! Also.. I couldn’t help but think of Marlena when the other time traveler died violently in Des’s arms last night! Bleeding eyes.. man oh man, JJ.
