Numbers Theory

1 year, 7 months ago by Nick

This theory was sent in by our friend Hammer.

Valenzetti came up with a formula that predicts the end of the world. The numbers are the factors. What if DHARMA or anyone for that matter messed something up by changing something in the past?

Valenzetti’s equation found the resulting ‘D Day’ so to speak. DHARMA used the island to try to find a way to change one of the factors to ’save’ the world, but was stopped by the purge. Now, Ms. Hawking has found the island and now knows that they have 70 hours until the end of world. In effect, Ben’s group is trying to change a number to ’save us all’.

Is Ms. Hawking’s scribblings actually Valenzetti’s equation?

I couldn’t wrap my head around why the world (yes I am assuming that Ms. Hawking means the world and not just her people) is in trouble if the group doesn’t get back to the island. I mean to ask, “What is the REAL reason why they have to get back?” Yes to save the world, but WHY? What does it un-change or better yet change? So I started pondering recurring themes. And BANG, the numbers. They told us about them early on for a reason.

I am thinking that the Swan’s caretakers really were saving the world, then Desmond turned the key and we had the purple sky event with a huge discharge, which set off the chain of events that has us where we are today, trying to fix everything and save the world.

Tonight’s episode is more Island-focused, which means there should be a bit of excitement given the way things ended last week. However, we will see Desmond try to follow-up on Farraday’s request to find his mother. That could help solve one of the lingering questions from last week – are Faraday’s mother and Ms. Hawking one in the same? The chalkboard scribble did reek of a trait passed down from mother to son, but I am not totally convinced yet…

ABC’s Official Show Description

Spoiler Alert

“Desmond goes in search of Faraday’s mother who could be the key to helping Daniel stop the island’s erratic movements through time, and Locke discovers the identity of the unknown forces who have been attacking the survivors.”

The first two episodes of Season 5 have opened up a number of questions (go figure) – here are a few to ponder as we prepare for the third episode tonight – let us know what you think about the following:

  • Who hired Dan Norton (the attorney that harassed Kate about the maternity test)?
  • If “the rules” don’t apply to Desmond, does that mean he can alter the present by changing something in the past?
  • Why the 70 hour window to get back to the Island?

Lost Season 5 Premiere: Destiny Calls

1 year, 7 months ago by Nick

After another 8 month hiatus, Lost is back this evening, with a three hour premiere event. There is an hour long recap show at 8 EST, followed by the first two episodes of Season 5 – the aptly titled Episode 1 “Because You Left” and then Episode 2 “The Lie”. As you might have noticed, we’ve taken a bit of a hiatus as well – after the DHARMA Wants You ARG catastrophe we too needed a break! Navigating the minefield of spoilers that the Lost blogosphere has become is difficult (if not impossible), but we will continue to treat this blog and our weekly episodic posts as something to prompt intelligent conversation about our favorite show rather than ruin the intrigue far in advance for everyone.

That said, Season 5 is largely going to focus on the theme of time travel – as many of you can imagine – and Episode 1 is said to pick up immediately where Season 4 ended. Lindelof has said that when this season starts, we will not “know when or where we are” – and that the story telling device may change as well. Further, a number of the episodes will be more multi-character focused than we have seen in the past. We will see two new characters introduced in Episode 1.

Because You Left

ABC’s Official Show Description

Spoiler Alert

“The remaining island survivors start to feel the effects of the aftermath of moving the island, and Jack and Ben begin their quest to reunite the Oceanic 6 in order to return to the island with Locke’s body in an attempt to save their former fellow castaways.”

The first scene of “Because You Left” is supposed to start with a jaw-dropping opener, so make sure you don’t miss the first few minutes!

The Lie

ABC’s Official Show Description

Spoiler Alert

“Hurley and Sayid are on the run from the cops after stumbling into trouble at the safehouse; the island survivors come under attack by unknown forces; and an old friend offers some shocking advice to Kate in order to ensure that “the lie” remain a secret.”

We will not dig too far into this episode, given the implications of the episode title itself. I can say that a character we have not seen since Season 2 will make an appearance and there should be an extremely intense action scene.
