Lost Podcast Review

2 years, 11 months ago by Will

As promised, here is our summary of the Lost Podcast posted last Friday on ABC.com:

-Damon and Carlton make sure we know this is a “special” suprise podcast given the dates relevance to the crash date of Oceanic 815

-At end of the 3rd Season, the survivors have been on the Island for about 100 days

-They are “busily” at work on Season 4, not sure when they are exactly going back on the air, but will be in February for sure; again day and time slot are not official

-There will be flash forwards and flash backs moving forward

-Carlton and Damon then suprise a few Lost listeners by calling them and allowing them to ask questions:

Warning, Possible Spoilers!!

*First Question: Have you guys had a definite plan related to the love triangle of Sawyer/Kate/Jack?

-They have agreed on who Kate will ultimately end up with, but didn’t elaborate beyond that… The flash forward was not the end of the show, even though things look grim for Kate and Jack.

*Second Question: Was the flash forward a definite occurrence, or was that a “possible” future?

-Damon and Carlton are not big fans of multiple futures, and are working very hard to maintain continuity, “the future is the future”. Damon does say that time and time travel will continue to be a show motif.

*Third Question: What is happening with Richard Alpert?

-Nestor was cast to play Alpert and his storyline was ramped up given his initial performance around the same time he did the “Cane” pilot. They essentially have him parked for now and the success of Cane will probably dictate how available Nestor is so that Alpert’s storyline can be tied up.

*Fourth Question: Are Nikki and Paulo really dead?

-Yes (there was more conversation here, rather pointless)

Fifth Question: Will we find out if Kate is pregnant with Sawyer’s child?

-We will find out, and probably within the first 4 episodes

Sixth Question: Is Mikhail still alive?

-No, but will probably be part of backstories, etc.

That pretty much sums up the podcast, nothing profound, but at least we have more information on where some things stand. The most interesting conversation was related to the confirmation that the flash forward we saw is the definite future, not a possible one; so Jack really does get to that alcoholic, pill-popping, miserable state of existence we saw him in… I cannot wait until February!

Lost News Update – September 21st, 2007

-At least one “Lost” star captured a win at the Emmy’s, so again, congrats to Terry O’Quinn. Otherwise, Lost and Heroes were collectively shut out, and beyond that it was generally a Sopranos love fest, so if you missed it, you didn’t miss much.

-TV Guides’ Michael Ausiello confirmed today that Cynthia Watros (Libby) will be appearing in Season 4, so I definitely look forward to getting more of her story and what happened as she and Hurley crossed paths in the mental institution. There has been additional speculation that she might have been a DHARMA employee, so I’m sure her back story will be compelling. At a minimum, this essentially confirms that flash-backs will still be part of the show for Season 4:

She’ll be in enough of the show for us to fill in the missing pieces of her story,” says Cuse. “We could not be more pleased. Cynthia is a smart and engaging actor, and [executive producer] Damon [Lindelof] and I have some very cool parts of her story left to tell.”

-Numerous sites are speculating that the premiere of Lost will be Monday, February 4th, at 8 PM. Though this has not been confirmed, obviously the 8 PM Monday night timeslot should draw much larger non-DVR viewership than Wednesday at 10, which is great for the show

-Finally, at some point today an all new podcast should appear on ABC.com, from Lindelof and Cuse, we will provide a recap once that is published.

Enjoy!

Lost News & Hiatus Update – September 12, 2007

A few Lost-worthy items for discussion:

*The Emmy’s will air this Sunday night at 8 PM EST on Fox, so if you have nothing else going on, tune in to see if Lost is able to capture any academy love (Lost was shut out at the “Creative” Emmy awards earlier this week)

*Oscar Dahl of BuddyTV.com wrote an article about the impending Fall launch of shows, and the obvious effect that Lost not being on this fall has on his viewing preferences. In this article, Oscar makes a decent point about being envious of his father, whom he is trying to convince to get the Lost DVD’s to catch up:

I am truly jealous of him, or anyone else, who has yet to discover Lost. At some point, they will have the opportunity to watch Lost from the beginning. They get to meet Jack and Locke, discover the hatch, learn about the Dharma Initiative, witness the power of Mr. Eko’s whooping stick and be in awe of Ben Linus’s complexity.

This leads me to some thoughts about my latest hiatus-hangover helper (say that 3 times fast). Two weeks ago I decided to thoroughly watch Season 1 of Heroes, I had previously caught the first couple episodes earlier this year and for whatever reason stopped watching (in hindsight, I have no idea why!). I have now viewed all but the season finale and I must say, this is definitely my second favorite show now, squarely behind Lost.

Given that Heroes Season 2 starts later this month, I am hoping that will make the next 4 months a little more bearable as I wait for Lost to return. Related to Dahl’s article, I have found watching the show in such a short period of time quite frenetic and much more intense (but enjoyable). It definitely gives you a greater appreciation for a show in it’s entirety. Watching a season arc over a few weeks definitely prevents you from questioning the specifics of any given episode.

Discovering Heroes has definitely helped move me through this long hiatus (albeit brief, considering that I have consumed the entire Season in a rather gluttonous way!) and I look forward to the Blu Ray release of Lost Season 3 in December, let me know how you’ve been spending your time…
