Official Lost Season 3 Video Podcast 7

3 years, 7 months ago by Andreas

A new official video podcast was just released. Since the video contains a clip from the upcoming Lost episode “Not in Portland” and another clip from a future episode, I haven’t watched the podcast to avoid being spoiled.

If you don’t mind the spoilers and want to have a look, the video should start playing after the commercial if you go to ABC’s Lost video section.

If that doesn’t work, you can get the video on iTunes.

Holloway wants big bloody end for Sawyer

3 years, 7 months ago by Andreas

Josh Holloway Braveheart style

In a recent interview with British magazine “New”, Josh Holloway (Sawyer) said that he doesn’t know more about Sawyer’s future than the viewers, but that if and when it is time for Sawyer to go, he knows how he would like things to end:

“In the current atmosphere of TV shows the writers are willing to kill a main character without any problem. So that’s a possibility.

But when it happens, I want a big, bloody Braveheart-style battle. I want Sawyer to die badly!”

I don’t think we should take Josh’s comment literally, but the prospect of getting to paint his face blue was to entertaining to pass up. No hard feelings Josh!

Lost Questions – Asian smoke monsters and crocodiles

3 years, 7 months ago by Andreas

I received a mail with some questions from Lost Blog reader Jason today:

In an anime movie called Vampire Hunter D, there are monsters called Mist Devils that resemble the monster on Lost. Is there any chance this has connection to Asian folklore that Jin would give insight to?

Saltwater Crocodiles are native to the south Asia/Australia region. They are the largest breed of crocodiles and sometimes grow just shy of 30 feet. Is there any chance of us seeing one of these on the island giving the castaways problems?

I am not aware of any connections between the smoke monster on Lost and Asian folklore. It’s not impossible, but to my knowledge we have not seen anything that points in that direction. Maybe some of our readers have more knowledge of smoke monsters in Asian folklore?

When it comes to crocodiles native to south Asia and Australia, I’m not able to give you a good answer either. The reason is that we have no idea where the island is located. Some belive that it is located between Australia and America, others belive that the island is in Antarctica and others believe that it is constantly moving.

Since we don’t know where the island is, we can’t assume that there is any connection to south Asia or Australia. On the other hand, we have seen boars, horses and polar bears on the island, so if you keep your fingers crosses, maybe some crocodiles will show up in a future episode!

Lost Survivor Guide – Recap Episode

3 years, 7 months ago by Andreas

I know some of you are wondering if there is going to be a recap episode before the start of Lost Season 3. To the delight of Lost fanatics as well as new viewers, ABC will be showing what they call “The Lost Survivor Guide” just before the premiere of next Lost episode “Not in Portland”.

ABC once again invites new and avid Lost viewers to take another look at one of the most talked about and critically acclaimed shows. Lost Survivor Guide will explore the series in a way that will bring new viewers up to date — but which current viewers will also find illuminating in anticipation of the return of the second act of the series third season. From the back stories of some of the most interesting characters on television to the mysteries of the island, Lost Survivor Guide will provide an insightful glimpse into the lives of some of the survivors of the doomed Oceanic Airlines flight 815, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 7 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

Hosted by Lost executive producers Damon Lindelof (also a co-creator of the show) and Carlton Cuse, the special will be told in a linear fashion, culminating from pieces of the back stories revealed over multiple episodes in the series, Lost Survivor Guide focuses on the flashbacks of a core of characters — illustrating who they were and what they were doing before the crash, and how the island has changed their lives, for better or worse. In addition, the island itself will be explored culled from events that have taken place which may reveal some of its secrets that might have been missed upon first viewing.

Everbody loves Ben

The Others

We’ve been running a poll with the question “Who is your favorite Other?” since December 15. With over 920 votes I think we’re starting to get a pretty clear picture of which ones of the mysterious “Others” we Lost fans like the most.

The Favorites – Ben and Juliet

The race was very close between Ben and Juliet for a long time with Ben always staying 2-5 votes ahead of Juliet. But in the last few days things changed a bit and Michael Emerson’s creepy character became the clear winner with 324 votes (35%) while Elizabeth Mitchell’s “Juliet” ended up with twenty votes less at 306 (33%).

Something tells me that the popularity of Ben and Juliet isn’t due to people wanting to be friends with them or have them over for dinner. What intrigues me personally about them, besides the fact that they are extremely well played, is that both characters are manipulative, evil and at the same time very charming.

While Ben entered the world of Lost as the captured “Henry Gale” and quickly became a fan favorite, Juliet was introduced just six episodes ago but has already managed to gain almost the same popularity as Ben through her manipulative mind games with Dr.Jack. I voted for Juliet, but to be honest I can’t decide between the two.

The other Others

While I expected Ben and Juliet to be popular, I was a bit surprised to find out that 21% of the voters favor Alex Rousseau. The explanation is probably that she appears to be a good person among the evil “Others”. After all, she did save Claire from captivity and tried to help Kate and Sawyer escape, so if we’re looking at it from the perspective of Kate, Sawyer and the other losties, Alex Rousseau would obviously be their favorite among The Others.

Tom, also known as Mr.Friendly or Zeke has been with us all the way from the season one finale where he kidnapped Walt. He also captured Kate and threatened Jack, but has started to show a friendlier side in recent episodes. In the poll M.C. Gainey’s character ended up with 7% of the votes.

Danny Pickett is probably one of the most hated characters on Lost right now. As a result, he only got 19 votes in the poll. Sure, his wife Colleen was killed by Sun, but beating up Sawyer and almost shooting him won’t exactly put you in a good position with the Lost fans. That doesn’t mean that he is a bad character. The antagonistic Picket is quite well played by Michael Bowen, we just like to dislike him!

Also ending up with 19 votes was Ms.Klugh, the lady who was nice enough to hold Walt captive and tell Michael to bring them Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Hurley. The fact is that we have seen so little of Ms.Klugh that it’s hard to know what we should think about her.

Ethan and Goodwin

As I’m writing this, it occurs to me that I never thought about including the dead Others Ethan and Goodwin in the poll. Both were very intriguing and well played characters, and Ethan in particular has been a major force of drama on the Lost island, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they ranked high among the favorite Others. However, they are dead so that poll will be posted during the zombie season.

Conclusion

While it didn’t come as a surprise, It was interesting to see that Ben and in particular Juliet, who was introduced fairly recently, are so popular among the fans.

The others have become, and in the mind of the writers probably have always been, a large and important element of Lost. They are the antagonists that make life difficult for our beloved survivors. At first glance they seem evil, but at the same time there is an incredible depth to them. Why are they on the island? Who are they? Are they really “the good guys” like Ben says or have we only seen a preview of what they are really capable of?

The second half of Lost season 3 promises more answers, and with under two weeks left, I can hardly wait.

Hawaiian students win Lost internships

3 years, 7 months ago by Andreas

Out of 40 applicants at University of Hawaii-Manoa’s Academy for Creative Media, 10 lucky students were selected for internships at on the set of Lost reports Pacific Business News.

The interns will rotate between the production office, art department, locations, wardrobe and the assistant director’s department. Jean Higgins, Lost co-executive producer had this to say:

“We have great expectations for our first class of UH interns. We are very excited to be able to help both the future of the Hawaii film community and the next generation of filmmakers.”

It’s kinda like Willy Wonka‘s golden tickets. Without the tickets and chocolate and on the set of Lost, but still!

As an aspiring filmmaker, I would love getting an internship on Lost. Sounds both entertaining and very interesting. Congrats to the 10 students!

Final Lost Episode video from CES

3 years, 7 months ago by Andreas

Remember when I wrote about the cool video that was played during Disney CEO Bob Iger’s keynote at the Consumer Electronics Show?

At the time, a copy of the video was nowhere to be found but to my pleasant surprise DarkUFO found it on YouTube today, so finally we are all able to see it!

The video features some of the cast from Lost. At a first glance it looks real, but the video is a made-up version of “the final Lost episode” intended to get some laughs out of the audience, so no need to worry about spoilers.

New Lost episodes to air four days later in the UK

3 years, 7 months ago by Andreas

According to our friends at DarkUFO, the new episodes of Lost Season 3 will air on Sky One as soon as four days after they air in the US.

Just had confirmation of the following schedule for Lost in the UK on Sky One.

Episode 7 – Sunday 11th Feb 2007 @ 10:00pm-11:00pm
Episode 8 – Sunday 18th Feb 2007 @ 10:00pm-11:00pm
Episode 9 – Sunday 25th Feb 2007 @ 10:00pm-11:00pm
Episode 10 – Sunday 4th Mar 2007 @ 10:00pm-11:00pm
Episode 11 – Sunday 11th Mar 2007 @ 10:00pm-11:00pm
Episode 12 – Sunday 18th Mar 2007 @ 10:00pm-11:00pm

I will be the first to admit that I don’t know how long the delay between the US and UK used to be on Channel 4, but compared to other European countries where Lost fans have to wait for weeks or even months to see the same episodes as fans in the US, this is great news.

Josh Holloway talks about Knoxville

3 years, 7 months ago by Andreas

A short but entertaining video with Josh Holloway, Lost’s Sawyer, can be seen at knoxnews.com.

There is pretty loud music in the background, but there are no spoilers so no need to worry about that.

It’s interesting to see Josh out of character. He clearly has some things in common with Sawyer and overall he seems like a fun and friendly guy.

JJ Abrams not directing “Not in Portland”

3 years, 7 months ago by Andreas

I’ve previously written that the upcoming Lost episode “Not in Portland” had been directed by Lost co-creator JJ Abrams based on the information on IMBD. It turns out that JJ didn’t direct the episode after all.

According to ABC, the episode which was written by Carlton Cuse and Jeff Pinkner was directed by Lost veteran director Stephen Williams. Williams has directed some great episodes, like “Collision”, “Lockedown” and my recent favorite “Every Man for Himself”, so I’m sure “Not it Portland” will be a great episode.

Nevertheless, JJ said that he was going to be more involved this season and I know that I’m not the only one who will be a bit disappointed if he doesn’t keep his word so this is a bit sad to hear.

The short synopsis of “Not in Portland” was also published by ABC, so if you don’t mind some spoilers and can’t wait until next month to find out the premise of the first episode in the second half of Lost season 3, take a look over at ABC.
