EDIT 9/1: An update for this weekend, though somewhat last minute… two additional Apollo giveaway spots have been added by Speaker, in response to poor organization at other events. Note that Chicago and Santa Monica Drive-In dates have been removed from the list also.

1) Speaker has said that he himself will be attending Dragon Con (comic book convention), with 7 Golden Oracle bars a day (28 in total) to be given out to fans who approach him with the password, the theme from Reader Mail #3. I took a look at this, with a funny sock puppet music video, and I think that this password will be “boars”. Note that one day admittance is $30.

2) Speaker has said that M. David Benson (founder of Apollo Candy) himself will be handing out bars at Burning Man (a huge annual anti-establishment music event in Nevada). If you know someone who is going, ask them to try and get photos of the man! It’s not exactly the kind of thing I would recommend just going for a free candy bar… tickets are now $350 at the gate.

Playing the Lost music

1 year, 11 months ago by Andreas

Michael Giacchino might not be a name you immediately connect to Lost, but you have heard of him, or rather, you have heard his music.

Mr.Giacchino is the composer behind Lost’s haunting but beautiful soundtrack. With soundtracks like Mission:Impossible 3 and The Incredibles in his portfolio, Michael Giacchino is quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s most wanted composers. IGN managed to talk to him at the recent Lost Season 2 DVD party:

IGN DVD: By Season Two, a lot of the show’s leitmotifs or audio cues have been pretty firmly established. What’s the challenge in terms of moving from one season to the next and expand that musical palette?

Michael Giacchino: Well, this year it was kind of fun to expand it with Henry Gale, and also expand it into the whole Others thing. I mean, the Others were revealed slowly, kind of more and more to us in Season Two, and what started off as a very simple motif for them slowly developed into something more complicated. It’s just this thing that kind of naturally happens that as they unfold the story I’m able to then glean more out of that, get more inspiration from it and start adding to what I’m doing. But the simpler and more cryptic it is, the more simple I stay, and that’s just kind of a natural way of working on the show. But it is a challenge, and to find new ways to use Locke’s music, new ways to use, you know, Charlie or Hurley - all of those guys - it’s always a challenge to try to find [something new], but you also don’t want to be too different because that’s their thing. That’s who they are and that’s what they are. It’s kind of like following an opera.

Terry O’Quinn talks about Locke

1 year, 11 months ago by Andreas

The latest in a series of interviews over at IGN.com is an interview with the man who portrays everyone’s favorite castaway, John Locke.

IGN DVD: What is the one thing you wish you could have found in the hatch besides the tires for your car?

Terry O’Quinn: Obviously Locke wished he could have found the meaning of his life in the hatch. That’s what he was looking for - his job, his destiny, his task, his meaning, and it turned out to be pushing a button and he found that very disappointing.

IGN: Have you ever been a button pusher in real life?

O’Quinn: A button-pusher? No. Never. I’ve been doing this since I was in college and before that I did nothing. The button pushing was a whole new experience for me and I found it very dissatisfying and I was unhappy for Locke. Locke was unhappy and I was very sympathetic.

IGN: Do you think Locke was frustrated because of his isolation of just pressing a button all the time?

O’Quinn: I think he was frustrated because he thought getting into the hatch and finding [what was in it] was going to give him some definition and was going to maybe be the answer to his life’s work. It was kind of like the old man and the mountain: if he got up there he was going to get the answer and he was going to find some peace of mind and some meaning - something that would drive him forward. But it didn’t.

Jorge Garcia loves being an action figure

1 year, 11 months ago by Andreas

IGN has published an interview with Jorge Garcia, Lost’s Hurley:

IGN: In comparison to Season One, how would you characterize or differentiate your experience working on Season Two?

Garcia: Well, there’s something cool about an being an actor when you’re a regular as opposed to being a guest star, for example, because you can settle in and kind of enjoy and play at what you do. Because when you’re a guest star, you’re essentially auditioning every day at work, and coming into Season Two was fun going through the first week of being rusty like after you’ve had the summer off have just been kind of messing around and stuff. So the first line you flub and getting into all of that stuff is the cool thing, and also enjoying the whole idea that this is now the longest acting gig that I’ve ever had and that here I am at Season Three of a TV show. Just crossing that threshold - it’s a great accomplishment.

IGN: How does it feel to have an action figure?

Garcia: Fantastic. I mean, I saw the prototype at Comic-Con, held it, touched it, and now I’m anxious to see it in the plastic and the package and that whole thing. I mean, I’m going to buy a lot; I mean, they’ll send me some but I’ll probably buy a lot more and just give them to everybody for Christmas.

In the mind of Michael Emerson

1 year, 11 months ago by Andreas

We have all been impressed by his portrayal of the creepy “Henry Gale” on Lost, but what are Michael Emerson’s thoughts on playing one of the mysterious “Others”? IGN has the answers:

IGN: It seems like everybody on the show is guilty of something. What do you think Henry gale is guilty of?

Emerson: I don’t know. Hubris? Arrogance? Over-education? I don’t know what it could be (laughs).

IGN: Prior to this you were known for being in Saw. What draws you to these ‘creepy’ characters?

Emerson: A better question might be what is it about those characters that appeals to audiences, or an even better question is why do audiences perceive them as creepy? Let’s say I got to the studio one day and I play it in neutral - I don’t make any judgment about the character or the material or anything. And then when it comes out and it’s all chopped together and there’s music and stuff, people go ‘my God that’s scary!’ But I don’t know what the scary element is. I don’t know if it’s something in me. I don’t know if it’s in the playing of it or the perceiving of it. It’s an interesting issue, though.

Alan Dale talks about his role as Charles Widmore

1 year, 11 months ago by Andreas

In an interview with IGN, Alan Dale, the actor who played the mysterious Charles Widmore in the Lost season 2 finale answers some questions about his “guest appearance” and his possible future in Lost.

IGN TV: You also appeared on Lost last season, and that seemed like a character who could turn out to be very important to the backstory.

Dale: It’s funny you should say that, because my publicist rang me about it just after she saw it, because I didn’t tell anyone I was doing that. And she said she was very concerned, because how could I possibly do both [shows]? I don’t know the answer to that. I was delighted to be asked to do it. I loved the character; it was only one scene, but it was a really nice scene, and I agree with you. And Ian [Henry Ian Cusick, who plays Desmond], the guy I was working with, is a lovely guy, and I was thinking, it could well be… I might be able to do both. It’s not usual, but…

IGN TV: It’s the same network, so they could coordinate.

Dale: And not conflicting nights. So maybe, but I don’t know. I’d love to do that, but I’m sort of like flotsam and jetsam. I just go with the wind; where the wind blows.

IGN TV: Even before you appeared, they’d mentioned your character’s name.

Dale: I don’t really know. One thing that you will have noticed and I’ve noticed is when a show is successful, the producers sort of tend to think they’re bulletproof. So they sort of think that people will want to work with them and it won’t matter, they don’t have to tie anyone up [in a deal] or anything like that. So I would think they might have to write another person into that character; cast somebody else, or come to some sort of accommodation with these other people, which I don’t think, since they’re number 1 in the world, they really want to do. It’ll be interesting to see. I mean I loved to work on it. I watch the show, and Matthew Fox’s daughter and my son were in the same class at school together, five years ago. I got to know him a bit then and he’s a lovely guy. So I would like to, but whatever happens, happens.

IGN TV: I’m not sure if you know this, but the actress who plays Matthew Fox’s wife in the flashbacks on Lost [Julie Bowen] has appeared several times on the show, while also playing a lead on another ABC show, Boston Legal. They worked things out for her to periodically appear on Lost.

Dale: Ah, yeah. So the fact that they can… I would really love to, let me just say that. As far as I’m concerned, I would love to do that. Have the trips to Hawaii [where Lost films]… And as an actor, you know, I had too many years sitting around, wondering when the next job is coming. I love it; if there’s two, I’ll take both of them! [laughs]

I have to say that I am a bit concerned that it seems like there is no contract between Alan Dale and the Lost producers. As some of you might know, the actress who played the president on Prison Break, decided to jump over to a different show this season, creating what I would assume is major problems for the Prison Break writers. I just hope that the same won’t happen to Lost.

Charles Widmore appeared to be a very important character, and even if he will only show up in flashback episodes it wouldn’t be very fun if they had to hire another actor to play the part. At least Alan Dale would personally love to continue portraying Widmore, so hopefully things will work out.

Henry Ian Cusick talks about Desmond

1 year, 11 months ago by Andreas

Although he didn’t win the Emmy for best guest actor in a drama series award which he was nominated for, Henry Ian Cusick who portrays Desmond on Lost is very happy with his life.

In an interview with USAToday, Cusick tells us a bit about his new life on Hawaii and how he got the role as Desmond:

The actor’s account of how he thinks he got the role sounds like a Lost character’s crossover flashback. Cusick happened to be staying at the home of actor friend Brian Cox (X2: X-Men United), who lives next door to Lost executive producer Carlton Cuse. Cusick says he met Cuse briefly and believes “a seed (was) planted, because they had been looking for either a Scottish or Irish character.”

WhereIsAlvar.com Now Active!

1 year, 11 months ago by Cecilia

Rachel Blake has sent out a new email warning us that WhereIsAlvar.com is now active! It appears to be a site where you can login with your HansoExposed.com ID, and upload your picture if you have found an Apollo Bar. It appears that the people who have done so so far are all from the UK… after yesterday’s NYC Park Avenue Country Club fiasco (see below), people are expectedly cynical and many bars were probably lost forever, but hopefully they will organize future giveaways in the states a lot better. Please post your stories if you make it to one of the giveaways (see below for dates & locations, also).

Season 3 Promotional Video

The “Great” Apollo Candy Giveaway??

1 year, 11 months ago by Cecilia

Well, we have a little info trickling out of NYC so far… my cousin (who posts as “violet” here) went down to the Park Avenue Country Club event, which apparently is being held at the same time as the Fantasy Football event, and said she couldn’t get in without registration. I tried registering her last minute, and she will try back again, I will keep this post updated. Apparently, there was a line outside, but the promotional lady doesn’t know much about any Lost/Apollo event.

EDIT 8/23: This is hugely messed up, but according to korijane of TLEC, she went down there and the security guard said they had been given away hours ago “by accident”. It seems that the promotional people got their wires crossed, and thought they were “donated” by ABC, and put them in the fantasy football gift bags, for people who have never heard of Lost. What a waste!!

EDIT 8/23: Pictures at Lostpedia, the URL WhereIsAlvar.com is written on them…
