DJ Dan’s podcast 6/30 (linked directly HERE) is very interesting for those of you who want to know more info about Valenzetti. He gets a caller who is a mathematical forecaster, who fills in some details–apparently, he thinks that Valenzetti was hired by the U.N. in 1963 for the uses of creating a formula that would predict things that would help the future of humanity–but that he was killed in a plane crash that he thinks was a THF conspiracy. DJ Dan unsmartly SHUTS HIM DOWN before Rachel (now 100% owning up to being Persephone) gives him a call and makes him think twice–tying in the events from the Vik Institute fire and telling him about the savants and mathematicians there who were forced to run the equation over and over.

Rachel has similar information on her own blog today in her newest posts. GidgetGirl, former voice of doubt, is now someone she allows to write for her blog. Since they all know that Dr. Zander is missing (presumed killed for knowing too much?), the spotlight is on finding where Mittelwerk flew off to after the fire. GidgetGirl believes he went to Sanremo, on the Italian Riviera, where Valenzetti is from. GidgetGirl also says that she HAS heard the name Valenzetti in another context… but won’t give up the goods on what this was about.

One last small but weird update. Mandrake Wig’s Flickr photo album has been updated again. One picture is of a car on grass, captioned “Green like MONEY” (confirmation of yesterday’s clue; unnecessary?). One picture is a weird one, of “Bole with pie” (and Mandrake peeking out from the left side)… a strange picture captioned “Get a clue: Direct observation or participation?” These are without a doubt clues to something, but damned if I can figure out what right now.

An incredible document has just been discovered in the webmaze.

How it was found:

The newest newsletter has just been released by the ROT guys. In it, there are all sorts of hints:

1) There is a poem about a golden retriever. The name “wand prowess” anagrams to “new password”. It has been hinted on the ROT backsite that the password would be changed, most saw that coming. In the poem, there is mention that “up North, I’m a sea bear”. This should come to no surprise to anyone that this is the “polar bear” (Ursus maritimus = Latin name of the polar bear = sea bear), also the new password for the ROT backsite, replacing “porter”.

2) Two of the lines: Maslow’s Hierarchy (NEEDS) and Keep who’s eye on the prize (YOUR) may be the last two words in the secret word series: WELCOME YOUR NEXT VIDEO NEEDS YOUR…

3) If you use the capitalized word in the PS (BLOOD) and put at the end of http://www.richerdeeperbroader.com/blood, you will get a PSD document linked from “part 1″. If you use Photoshop or a picture editor, you can see that it is actually 2 layers. Make the top layer 100% translucent (0% opaque, or invisible), and the bottom layer 100% opaque. Someone figured out that if BLOOD = red (color of letters from the letter) that MONEY = green, and SORROW = blue (special thanks I hear go to Dennis and Belly0fdesire at The Lost Experience Clues Blog for these… awesome work, guys!). Using these three words and following the same process of transparency and layering of all three produced this letter:

Webmazers, Rachel has a new post up on her blog, which discusses her thoughts on Gary Troup and also on the heiroglyphics.

Additionally, the ROT guys at http://www.retrieversoftruth.com (the backsite message board) have a new post–specifically Fiberoptician does. Apparently, he says that we have a 4 word clue already (we have figured this out in past clues to be “Welcome your [new video?]”), and 2 new ones are coming today. The new word clues should be added after the http://www.richerdeeperbroader.com URL in order to unlock some secret part of the site.

The ROT guys over AIM (now confirmed in game) have also been directing towards the in-game blog of “Mandrake Wig” (first mentioned in the Dr. Bole letter):

He is an interesting character, and if you read his first blog post, “Responsibility taken”, there’s a curious story about him missing a plane “that didn’t make it, didn’t arrive, NEVER arrived”, and how he had mixed feelings about this: “Did I escape death or miss out on the adventure of a lifetime? Or both?” This was a plane that was flying from Australia to Los Angeles. Is Mandrake just a made up character by the Verizon guys? And whether he is or not, was he supposed to be on Oceanic Flight 815?

Seems very likely that word clues will come from there. The favorite meal is a picture of Korean BBQ, the dogs are Golden Retrievers, the sea turtles appear to be Leatherbacks, the ship is of the Vapor de la Carrera (docked in Buenos Aires), the taxi is a Rolls, the airline is Australian Airlines/Qantas, and the author of the tango song “Caminito” whose bust is in a square in Buenos Aires is Gabino Coria Peñaloza. Not sure how to put these clues together yet, anyone have any ideas?

By the way, the “Lost Experience” thing that you are working through…do you think that it’s helping you to find out what the island is all about or just a spin off for ABC to keep riding the Lost phenomina?

My answer to him is that I think it is a little bit of both, leaning a little stronger towards the latter (commercializing on success of the show). This is a controversial topic that confronts a lot of people who post on internet sites about LOST–how much can we consider TLE to be canon? How entwined are the two storylines going to be? Is it necessary to play to fully understand the show? Or is it just the writers selling out?

I cannot say anything with 100% certainty right now. TLE is a game I’m playing and following closely for the heck of it over the summer, and it is fun for the most part, despite complaints here and there. What I do NOT believe is that anyone should feel pressure to play it JUST in order to understand the show. I think when Season 3 starts, it will be clear that there will be a few spoilers revealed in the webmaze, but that most of it will be filler material, background Story B. In other words, if you don’t play, don’t sweat it–nothing integral to understanding the main mysteries of LOST will be revealed in the game *only* and *not* revealed at some point in the series. Keep in mind there are millions of LOST watchers who don’t even know what a webmaze is, and the producers are probably not going to wish to alienate them.

For the purposes of this blog, we cater to both fans that play the game and fans that only watch the TV show. It’s too bad we can’t make this blog filter out only for certain tag subjects. Though we try to write a good mix of articles on Lost news, personal thoughts & theories about the show, and webmaze clues, the summer months will be dominated with webmaze articles because of the nature of the beast. To people who don’t wish to play the game but are curious about what may be revealed when the smoke clears–at the end of the summer, I’ll try and prepare a summary of how the storyline may tie into the show, leaving out the parts which are (in my opinion) inconsequential (of course, some of this will be subjective, but I’ll do my best). No one should feel left out of anything just because they don’t have the time, energy, or inclination to play a game.

Rachel’s blog main page is now showing us that she made it to Reykjavik, Iceland! It appears that she must be following up on GidgetGirl’s last tipoff about the Vik Institute fire and other secrets (including the new story about the mathematician, Benoffski, who died in the fire).

EDIT 6/28: A memo from Benoffski was found. A friend of necrosloth, of LOST-TV, translated it from its original Polish:

Dear Co-workers,
I am taking a short vacation (unknown word)/scientific (or educational) during the months of June through August so as to spend a little of this important time with family and also to present on “Mathematics-Statistics” in Perth, Australia. During this time I won’t be accessible. Pleas occupy yourselves with student matters and (unknown word) scientific as best you can.

EDIT 6/28: There is now new video added to the site. View it by going to http://www.garytroup.net and clicking on “Links”. Additionally, mattthepale has been kind enough to upload it to YouTube for those who are having difficulty getting it off the slow site. Dr. Armand Zander of the Vik Institute gets put on the spot by Rachel–it appears that the patients in the “secret ward” weren’t patients at all.

From TLE webmaze, the ROT backsite has been busy with activity. iobiSeeingYou and DSLerator have indicated that they will have a new clue every day; each one a single word that will build one LARGE clue.

In 6/26 thread “If you don’t get it you don’t get it.”, they indicate that the first clue word may be the first word of the first song in Caberet, which is “Wilkommen”. This is German for “Welcome” (and it is also a word that is found on http://www.richerdeeperbroader.com, where they direct us).

In 6/27 thread “Our AIM is true.”, they indicate that they are reachable by IM. Several different people from several different TLE forums have gotten the same exact message by IMing DSLerator on AIM (note that this is the title of the thread):

Here’s your next hint: 25 15 21 18

It’s simple and I’m sorry but you’ve got more work coming so it shouldn’t all be hard work.

Next up: We’ve been getting some weird vibes like someone might be catching on to us. We might need to change the ROT PW. If you can’t get in just drop an email in the box. The nice Doctor has composed another of his email puzzles so you’ll have to figure out the new PW. Just adds to the fun, don’t it?

Using A=1, B=2, etc, the new clue appears to be “Your“.

The IM also seems to indicate that Dr. Wally Bole may be sending out more emails with puzzles to solve for the new password to enter into the ROT backsite, which may change to be PW protected.

Throughout the LOST series (both seasons), there have been certain, peculiar phrases that get repeated or mirrored back to one another. It’s very clear that this is intentional, and may go even beyond showing thematic interconnections between characters. A few examples:

Many more examples. What do you think of this idea of mirrored dialogue? Aside from just emphasizing themes, the actual wording is so close that it makes me believe that this is more support of the idea that this is a show about karma. Everything that goes around, comes around.

Rachel Blake’s newest video is a little more interesting. She says in her newest blog post that it is hidden, and she links to http://www.letyourcompassguideyou.com again. You have to click, this time not on 108, but to the left side on the picture of Proserpine (the Roman version of Persephone, in a famous painting; note also the initials WTK, for the Jeep employee she had a chat with). The direct link can be seen here if you don’t want to go through this trouble of lining up compass needles. You’ll notice in the trash folder, now there is a new folder called “Illumination”; this folder links to the general Jeep website. Since it’s called “illumination”.. the link should have to do with lights, right? Argh, I was about a second short of being the one to find this one, I was looking at HEADLIGHTS.

The actual key is to go to http://www.jeep.com/en/compass/interior.html and click on SEE ALL INTERIOR FEATURES on the upper right. Then pull down the menu to “Removeable Flashlight”. Once you click on that, there is an option to view a demo of the flashlight… it is anything but. It’s a video of Rachel getting a very interesting visitor!

Seems it is the guy who was helping Mittelwerk out in the previous video. Was he talking about the Vik Institute or something else? Was he there to kill Rachel?

EDIT 6/27: The newest blog entry (007) finally recognizes linmoo’s great contribution of finding the islands as being a group near Thunder Bay, Ontario (Canada)… however, Rachel still seems convinced that she may have seen yet another that wasn’t captured by the camera which was near the equator. This all leaves ME scratching my head… if the writers of this game wanted us to look for islands on the map there, why didn’t they use ones from there in the first place?

The other new info from this blog entry is that GidgetGirl starts providing some clues–about involvement of the Vik Institute (previously introduced in that awful game of Simon before THF shut down) and Dr. Zander again. A fire had broken out, and a new character–a mathematician named Vigi Benoffski–ended up getting killed while getting caught in it. The way they make it sound isn’t very accident-like, is it? And is this mathematician tied in to Valenzetti? Was this the mysterious man he was visiting?

I was watching the season finale with my mother this weekend, and as usually happens when you watch LOST again (even if it’s for the umpteenth time) is that you still get new insights. One that stuck out to me this time is that when Sayid has the plan to sail to the other side of the island and needs someone to help him sail there (since he doesn’t know how to sail), he asks Desmond, who conveniently declines and asks him to look elsewhere.

Sayid then asks Jin, who says he will not leave his wife while she is pregnant. Sun tells him that he won’t–because she is going with them. I can somewhat understand this (they were both friends with Michael, and they had many episodes ago had an argument over Jin leaving her and doing his own thing)… but at the same time, it seems a little out of character for Jin, as protective as he was, to be ok with his pregnant wife coming with him in an encounter which could well turn into a violent confrontation.

I was curious if maybe this was a plot device to get this pregnant woman to that side of the island… in other words, if the writers were trying to place Sun there for a reason. Distance from the electromagnetism? Proximity to the Others, where they would be at risk for getting captured (especialy interesting if they already knew she was pregnant)? Just a few random thoughts. It’s going to be a long summer before we get real answers, I think.
