There is a second message on the oceanic-air site. It says "If anyone should find this message, please get word I'm alive and stranded on an island somewhere in the South Pacific. Please send help soon. Things are bad. And they're getting worse...Sally." You can see a little of the message peeking out from the top right.

I don't remember a Sally. Who is she?

ok this is a little interesting and thought i need to share it with everyone here...i went to the oceanic-air.com website, and i am sure everyong has visited it before. on the side there is a supposed message from the chairman of the company apologizing about the closure of the company. if you try to highligh it, a message appears under it and it says the following (i copied and pasted it):

I survived a horrific plane crash and am stranded on an island somewhere Northeast of Australia and Southwest of Hawaii. In the event that I am never found, please forward word of my fate to my parents.

i tried it a couple of times and it kept doing it, there seems to be more but i cannot make what it says or copy and paste it like this one...tell me what you think this means...very wierd how it would show up on the supposed flight company xwebsite...any thoughts?

I got the impression that because Eko saw his brother, Locke saw his brother, and his brother assisted in the finding of the Pearl Eko does not need a reason to push the button. Yemi says in the dream that the work being done in the hatch is important so Eko believes it on faith. Doesn't Eko say they push the button not because they are told to, but because it is what should be done (paraphrasing)? Eko's reasoning must is based entirely on faith - especially after seeing inside the Pearl. I think Eko believes he will find more reasons once he looks through the paperwork he has gathered. Locke, for the moment anyway, seems to have lost his faith.
IF Eko is being manipulated by the Dharma's with his brothers death, does that explain what the psychics daughter said to him in the airport?

And why is it that she never really seems to look at anyone? She kind of looks spaced out.
Umm...maybe cuz she was DEAD?!? Hehe. Just kiddin. Although I do think that's the effect they're goin for. Tryin to keep us wonderin.

Can someone please explain to me Eko's insistence that pushing the button is even MORE important now? Is he just saying it's meaningful to him because of how his brother ended up there and so, of course, there has to be some meaning to that? Is he just going to turn out to be wrong? Is it just an effort to keep US believing in the button, only for them to *smash* our faith in a future episode?

I understood why it was important to HIM, but not why he'd think pushing the button saved lives or something, if he even thinks that. I'm so confused...
yo...new poster

"Station 5, or The Pearl, is a monitoring station, where the activities of participants in Dharma Initiative PROJECTS...."

- would the plural use of the word project indicate that each hatch was the site of a unique experiment? if so, does that change anything?
Hey Nate. There is a theory that pushing the button does something to set off a chain reaction in the various stations. Someone quoted Michael recently as saying angrily to Jack (?) "Do you know what happens every time you press that button? Huh?" implying that Michael knows, and it's bad. LOL. The Pearl station orientation video makes no mention of the other hatches, however. Then what are those other monitors for? And why didn't they turn them ALL on? Sheesh! I wonder how many orientation videos/films we'll get to see...and whether any of them will be on DVD...
- a note: the quick view of the camera in the corner of the pearl could be there to "watch the watchers" OR it could be there to make the watchers believe they're being watched. remember that in the orientation video the ol' doc said that everyone was unaware of the surveillance. that being said, was the camera out in the open inside the pearl as a dummy...or was it simply out in the open because the watchers were obiously aware that this could be a possibility. again, would that make it wise or even reasonable NOT to hide one inside the pearl regaurdless (it's not far fetched to thinkt he watchers were above being watched). -- i think there's something here.
Maybe, but sometimes they make you think TOO hard. I and others responded to this from your other post at So Who Watches the Watchers? Take a look over there. =]
- locke sends his map up the tube. seems to me that the people on the other end are still there, wherever that is (the barracks i suppose...but again, wherever that is). no suction tube, pneumatic or otherwise would still be working like that after 47 years unless there was upkeep on it to ensure this. also - why the heck would locke just nonchelantly let his map go flying up the tube? he deffinitely let it go willingly...and i know he probably didn't want it anymore, but wouldn't the thought cross his mind that he may NOT want to send a random peice of paper with a rough sketch of the whole campus through a mysterious suction-pipe to this wierd doctor..."they will be sent directly to us". also #2 - this place the notebooks were being shot away to can't be that far...those things would be fairly heavy and in order to take them any distance at all there would have to be a decent amount of intake being created by something. going a long(er) distance would be pretty rough.
Yeah this was a *REALLY* loaded action on his part, and you bring up a few interesting things that make me ask even more questions (sorry!) like: Is the "?" really where the central command for the complex is stationed? Locke and Eko didn't seem to go far to get to Pearl Station, and I think most of us are in agreement now Pearl is not "?". But maybe "?" is where his map went, and if so, then what kinda freaky reaction shot are we missing on the face of whomever receives that piece of paper? Hopefully it's something we'll get to see this or next week. Could be the thing that sets off a showdown w/the others.

But I think Locke was in such a foul mood about himself he WASN'T really thinking about the consequences. Didn't seem to care about too much when he was venting to Eko. Pearl station must be kept up well in order for all the monitors to work, as well as the videotape deck. I think the damage to the ceiling, dust and debris all around, is from the plane hitting right above the hatch when it fell.
- lastly, the log sheets. interesting that eckko took them. any possibility that the conversation michael had with walt is logged there somehow? maybe not the conversation...but something noting foreign keys being typed outside of the "numbers". they weren't supposed to try to contact outsiders or use it for anything else. a "log sheet" may show this distubance somehow. otherwise...why did eckko take them?

that's all for now. if someone could comment on all of these things i'd be siked. i'm pumped up to continue posting and collaborating ideas with everyone here. this is by far the best forum for discussion.
I'd like to know about that Michael/Walt convo too. (Didn't notice that Eko took the logs. Interesting...) What if Walt was in Pearl station when he and Michael chatted? There's a computer in the corner. Looks like an Apple II...same as what they have in the Swan. I at first assumed it was someone pretending to BE Walt, or just Michael's imagination, but the producers have expressed their desire for maximum dramatic impact, and although pretending to be Walt to lure Michael is surely a compelling idea, Walt actually sitting at the computer doing the typing (coerced or not) would be much more exciting to see.

I agree, Nate, this is the best forum for discussion. It's lighter, cleaner, simpler...and a great bunch of people coming together here. Enjoy!

Didn't the plane fall when Boone was in it, so it was not always in that spot, and Desmond probably never even saw it.
I think that the island is an experiment not in someone's head and not purgatory. But just scientists experimenting just like it has been stated on the Hanso website. Doesn't that make it just as exciting. It would explain all the weird things, polar bear, voices in the jungle, tattooed shark and skinner experiments.
The timing is an interesting point I have been trying to reconcile as well. Even after watching several times. I do not get it. It would be interesting to know the tide situation. Could the island be moving???
Or could it be located in outer space and thus have a different night/day pattern because of how fast it rotates and how close it is to the sun? I speculated a bit about this in the post Desmond and The Bernal Sphere. Right now, it really feels like I was on to something!

Even if the island being located in space feels a bit extreme, the connections between Bernal's books about a better world and The Hanso Foundation's various projects for a better world are a bit scary.

Or could it be located in outer space and thus have a different night/day pattern because of how fast it rotates and how close it is to the sun? I speculated a bit about this in the post Desmond and The Bernal Sphere. Right now, it really feels like I was on to something!

Even if the island being located in space feels a bit extreme, the connections between Bernal’s books about a better world and The Hanso Foundation’s various projects for a better world are a bit scary.
